Hey Michael9344, I'm glad you liked my little vampire story. I tried to do a different spin on the regular blah blah you normally read. Thanks for review ~Cailen

That's some high praise. Thanks Yettie, Yes the vampires have an invincible quality to them, but they are vulnerable in other ways. I really tried to capture a human aspect to it, and i am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again, ~Cailen

Well, my Vampires do not sparkle... if that's what you meant... For a long time I had a reoccurring dream about a vampire drinking from me while i slept, but in the morning I would forget and that was the basis on Onyx. Thank you for taking the time to review, I am glad you enjoyed it. ~Cailen

It was a hint at the suggestion that everyone has some darkness inside them, but it is really what is in their hearts that matters. Thank you for reviewing, I am happy you enjoyed the story. ~Cailen

A Short Story of a Vampire named Onyx

Onyx: in Darkness By: Cailen Vautour People say that death is just a part of life, that perhaps our souls take residence in a great beyond and that there is a heaven there waiting for us. I can tell you however, I’ve never seen any pearly gates, nor a bright light, or even angels. Instead I discovered a world of darkness for which I have never been able to escape; I have tried many times, oh yes. Perhaps there is not meant to be a heaven for someone like me. As time wore on and

Stupid things you've done that you really don't regret
Cailen replied to Hayden L's topic in The Lounge
So I was in the drive through of a Dunkin Doughnuts (I really really needed my coffee) and the line was like 30 cars long and the place was mobbed. So i waited in line and after about 15 minutes I got to the ordering booth and I noticed that there was nobody behind me. I was the poor shmuck that had to wait the longest. Now I was a manager for a Dunks a long time ago and I know that when you drive onto the ground-plate it triggers the headsets inside and beeps in their ears and turns on the mic of the active headset. I drive onto the plate "Thanks for choosing dunkin doughnuts, can you please wait a moment?" she asked. Obivously since there were still 9 cars between me and the front. In the deepest voice I could muster i replied. "sure no problem" I then threw the car into reverse drove off the plate and then drove back on. "what the... thanks for choosing dunkin doughnuts, can you please hold." this time I used a southern accent "Sure, that ain't no problem" I drove off the plate and then back on it again "I don't know, I... Thanks for choosing dunkin doughnuts, can you please hold?" this time I used the best female voice I could manage "That's no problem sweetie, take your time." I drove off the plate a final time and then back on "Thanks for choosing dunkin doughnuts what can I get for you?" "FOOLED YOU, IT WAS ME THE WHOLE TIME!" to which i heard peels of laughter from over the headset. I ordered my coffee and when I drove to the window, they gave it to me for free. TOTALLY... WORTH... IT... -
I was about to head off to work this morning and I noticed that dear Michael9344 had already started this thread. I felt kinda weird answering it so soon, but I had some errant thoughts and I felt they were best placed here and not in a blog post. Today is my 30th Birfday (I'm from New England) and just as I was getting up to go to work, the first place I checked for birthday wishes was not on my phone, or on facebook, but it was here on GA, and seeing this thread put a big smile on my face and really made my morning bright. My thought was: that it is not my family, nor my great friends that really understand what it's like for me sometimes; being gay that is. I don't know a lot of other people like us and in my current line of work coming out to the customers is... well not in the cards. I somehow knew that there would already be a post up and that gave me great comfort. Growing up I had a great fear of letting my 'true' self show and in high school I was a nightmare. I was selfish, I was a liar, and I was cruel. For my 17th birthday I invited 20 of my 'friends' to come to my birfday party and not a single person showed. That really paved the way for my insecurity about my birthday and struck the first crack that would eventually lead me to coming out. Since then I have learned the value of true friendship, about being honest, and sharing and the real 'value' of things. I want you all to know that here on GA you are all wonderful beautiful people, that you are all precious and that I value all of you. You have taken the same journey I have, some have had it worse off, and others a lot better. But I wanted to share the thought that you are all special and beautiful and I want to thank each and every one of you for the thoughts and wishes and I return them to you 100 fold with hugs and a humble heart. Thank you all for letting me into your lives and sharing in this great community. All my love Cailen

I felt that I needed to throw out a small disclaimer: I'm fine, Ace is fine. I was venting some frustration and this is what I got. We're okay so don't panic just enjoy the poem. The Day Before Christmas The snowflakes on the railing cling against the breeze The snow falling from the heavens, covering the trees With an open hand I reach on high and try to catch their grace But as I reach out they melt away, and die without a trace I glance around; I’m all alone wandering in the nig

Raven: The Betrayal of Kings By Cailen Vautour ‘What you think you know, will never be worse than the truth.’ ~Lord Zasuan circ. 1296 CH1: It began on a moonlit night. The moon had never shone so brightly, its reflection stark against the still black waters of the lake. Not even the gentle hint of a breeze disturbed the calm of the night. Along the water’s edge, nestled on a large slab of bedrock dropped carelessly from a glacier aeons past, a young man gazed upon the water.

Interview Tip Thursday: Trevor Project Day And It Gets Better
Cailen commented on Trebs's blog entry in Gay Authors News
When i was 16 I lept out of my 3rd story window because I believed that the world would not get better, I had no friends, I was afraid, alone and in pain. I thought that maybe if i died that people might finally see me, that my life might of had a worth then... in death. I misjudged how far out I had to go out and caught the railing of the floor below me and landed back inside. I do not talk about my teen years much, if you read my story Raven you might have an idea... but it got better, I left my hometown and went to college and met some wonderful people that allowed me to open up and become the person i was always meant to be, to grow and even find love. I thought that in death i might be glorified that i might have value then. But i was wrong, it is the value of life, the moments and joys and struggles of each passing day that should be glorified. There is no meaning in death, only in life. How you choose to overcome pain is how you will make it. I chose to embrace life, and my world has been a lot brighter since. ~Cailen -
The first word I see on this site after Gay Authors is Quality. A teenager having an emotional breakdown because of what a person said about their story on the internet... OH MY! I understand the desire to have a nurturing enviroment, I really do. But there is a fine line, a balance between this hand holding, kum-bi-ah singing, tree hugging, liberal cesspool you seem to be aiming for and actual literary work. A review process is a critical one, if someone cannot handle having their work reviewed perhaps it'd be a smarter idea to allow new authors to 'shut off' reviews and allow themselves to stick their head in the proverbial sand and not be able to learn and grow. Thus providing them a caring safe enviroment in which to post Quality gay fiction... Seriously love this topic... ~Cailen

I hope that this post stays up a while longer as I am really enjoying the differing opinions about Author Reviews, and the reviewing process in general. I think that all reviews critical or not should be public, there seems to be no reason to pm an author unless you wish to troll / complain / yell at them. If a review isn't critical or offer an opinion it by it's very definition is not a review. REVIEW: a critical article or report, as in a periodical, on a book, play, recital, or the like; critique; evaluation. When you are a beginning writer, you are going to make mistakes and before you review someone's work please take that into consideration on how critical you are going to be. But I do not think it's fair to me or to any other author that we might have glaring errors or idiosyncrasies in our stories and they are being ignored to spare our feelings. I am in no way shape or form a great writer, but even I believe that people should be able to be honest and direct about their reviews. Critical reviews are good ones, and I would not have made as much progress as I have without those critical reviews. If the purpose if the review option is to flower the author in meaningless flattery then we might as well get rid of it, because if offering a actual REVIEW could be considered harassment or even get you banned... well I hope you see my point. Be kind your brothers and sisters and use a little freaking empathy when reviewing, but don't hold back when there is room for knowledge. ~Cailen

Fallen leaves of orange and gold Rustling round my feet I wander down this path of old It’s you I’ve come to meet The river in the distance trickles Its waters cold and black The dust and mold in the air it tickles My senses out of whack I rub my eyes against the light Peeking through the trees The setting sun, the leaves glow bright On the ground in flowing seas I feel you squeeze my hand awhile A grin upon your face I’m blinded more by your sweet smile Than the beauty

I've been using the pseudonym Cailen almost as long as I have been writing. My mother told me stories how she would only use her first initals as it got her more interview for jobs. I decided that I wanted to use a name that would be androgonus, I did not want my readers to form assumptions just because I was a certain sex. I would recommend giving your name considerable thought before deticating yourself to it, cause once you do, theres no going back. Cailen J. Vautour
