  1. Nice to meet you. I'm not around often, but I do pop up from time to time, like a bad penny.
  2. I have a 105K behemoth on my screen to attest that I have been writing. It's the finishing that I need to work on, lol.

    Flashbacks

I have used flashbacks, some done well, some done not so well. But always necessary for the story. I've always found them hard to write, because it can disrupt the flow of a story, but I don't think I could have written Insomnia or Keraunaphobia without them.
  4. Thanks for sharing this. My doctor is taking me off one of my medications and I'm terrified of my migraines coming back. I'll try anything.
  5. One of my gifts last year was a custom made calendar with a picture of my nephew for each month. I gave one to my sister and my parents and my grandparents. I have been told, multiple times by multiple family members, that they want another calendar. So I'm working on that.
  6. Working hard. How are you?
  7. @CassieQ gets on the naughty list for not posting anything new since 2020. (I'm hoping to change that in 2023).
  8. I probably shouldn't, but I can, so I'm going to go ahead and say
  9. Hey yourself. I got my booster this weekend, so I felt a bit off for a day or so, but better now.
  10. *puts her wine glass aside* What? I'm fine.
  11. Plot is characters doing things. This chapter was characters doing things. I'm glad you want to know more about creators and enablers, but I don't like info-dumps. P.S. Interesting comment. Why is that?
  12. Interested in your take on this. Brandon hasn't given his sexuality a lot of thought either way. Granted, making out with a girl whose name he doesn't know at a party when he is drunk is not a lot to go on.
  13. Congratulations!

    Guilt

You're not writing this, I am and I'll be goddamn if I am going to minimize Brandon AND Jordan's trauma just to move the plot along. It was not copied and pasted. It was written in third person like the rest of the story and when Brandon was referring to himself he used "I" and "me" pronouns so I'm really not sure what you're going on about.

    Lockbox

Chapter Four of The In Between: "I know," Jordan said. "And I stand by my word. I'll help you if you can find a way." But I will not help you find the way. It was unspoken, but understood between them.

    Lockbox

This is from Chapter 1 of Not The Sun: Jordan had the classic all American good looks... blond hair, bright blue eyes and a perfect white smile. He was well built--not skinny and lanky like Brandon himself was. He looked every bit like the perfect prep school student and the polar opposite of himself. Probably made straight A's and played football or lacrosse.

    Fantasy

I love that you touched on the language aspect of writing fantasy. My current WIP has multiple characters that don't speak the same language and had one of my characters have to learn an alien language. So my dialougue was awkward and stilted and I am still having to go back and make sure none of the "pretty" words I prefer are in the sentences. I also had to be very careful with slang like you mentioned. I hate info dumps and skirted most of it by introducing a character from our world into a new world. He notes things that native characters wouldn't because it is part of their day to day. I drew from real world influences though, so I don't know if I would have the courage to create something from scratch. Kudos to those who can!
  18. I'm on vacation right now, so I've been a bit lax in replying to reviews. But I do want to take a minute to say that I like cliffhangers and hot guys having sex and I'm not going to stop writing either. I'm also a character driven romance writer that likes to write weird shit from time to time. If that's not your cup.of tea, that's 100% okay and feel free to read something else. I've appreciated reading your comments.
  19. Yes, the encounter between Keith and Brandon was nonconsensual and 100% sexual assault. Brandon is really struggling. Thank you for commenting.
  20. Keith is one of the characters my readers like to talk about. Unfortunately for Brandon, he's not going anywhere soon. Thanks for commenting!
  21. Well, after that description, I'm probably not going to sleep that well either!
  22. I don't want to give too much away, but I usually answer all the questions I raise. Thanks for commenting, I'm glad you are enjoying the story!
  23. Glad you are liking the story and I enjoy hearing theories!
  24. I'm glad the plot caught your attention. It was an idea that ended up being a lot of fun to explore. Thanks for commenting, I'm glad you are enjoying the story!
  25. Some of my favorite anthologies were loose interpretations of a theme.
