  1. Cole: Decorating parties were fun. We’d have a little Christmas cheer as well. A glass of wine or beer makes decorating cookies even more creative, or should I say we thought so. Thanks for the review, but remember, Cole’s not the only one with recipes.
  2. Cole: Perhaps the best thing this Advent calendar has done so far is bring up happy memories of past holidays. Your remembrance of crunchy decorations underfoot and making candy with your mum and grandmother are so touching. Thank you for sharing these with the rest of us. We’ve done our job well and lots more to come.
  3. Cole: Fond memories of my grandmothers drove this vignette and recipe. We always had an enormous platter of cookies and candies, homemade with love. After all, that’s part of what makes the holiday so sweet, tastes from the past. Thanks for such a thoughtful review!
  4. Cole: I’ll have to check out Columbine Toffee, it sounds good. I wanted to make sure something chocolate and sweet ended up on the calendar. I recall finding bits of candy and so they need to be here. Thanks for the wonderful comments.
  5. Cole: It’s interesting how we all adopt and create new traditions. Cheese fondue sounds delicious for any special time. Thanks for the lovely review and memory.
  6. The First Noel I hit ‘send’ and stretched my arms over my head with a loud groan while the email containing my monthly productivity report made its way through cyberspace to my supervisor. I knew I’d hear about it the next day if I didn’t get it sent, so I had stayed late, despite already working my full shift. I shut my computer down and grabbed my lunch cooler and briefcase. It was after seven o’clock, and I was more than ready to go home. It was Halloween—one of my favorite holiday

    Home Again

Lol, yeah get in line with your pitchfork and torch. I'm curious to learn about the outcome your rooting for.
  8. Thank you, Cajbor! I'm glad you liked it.
  9. Christmas Spirit Salvation Army bells clamor For the attention Of scowling faces, Shuffling feet, And stooped backs, But are ignored As the jaded masses Stare pointedly forward, Intent on their quest for an adequate gift. Carols on ‘repeat’ produce eyerolls Instead of delight In the hardened hearts Of weary parents waiting in line To purchase an overpriced snapshot of The balls of energy at their side, Who anxiously await the chance To tell Santa their fondest wish. Rude wo
  10. Que Sera, Sera I knew exactly when it happened. I mean, sometimes you just kinda drift over into a new situation, a new part of your life. Small things change, lose their meaning, gain a meaning, become routine, or are forgotten. But you’re busy, with work and with life–doing laundry, taking the trash out, bringing the car to the shop, and whatnot. And things just accumulate. Tom called on my way home from work to tell me he had a business dinner and would be late. And instead of feeling di
  11. Elixir “Adam, what’s eating you?” Adam looked up from his cup of coffee and tried to smile at his grandmother. It felt half-hearted and he could see his sad attempt reflected in her eyes. “Everything’s fine. I swear.” Rose shook her head and patted his hand. “What you need is a nice sugar cookie. They always turn your frown upside down.” Adam rolled his eyes at his grandma’s goofy cliché. He didn’t want her to worry. She loved Wade and he wanted to keep it that way. “Sometimes the h

    Red Rose

I had the same experience with a raven tattoo. It looked like a watercolor painting, just beautiful. Someday... Anyway, yep German steel can be nice too.

    Brotherhood

Sounds about right, only it's Italian steel and the roads are probably a little more turned and twisted. Nice.
  14. To Fly “Is this really okay?” “I’m fine, Anna.” Cameron smiled at his sister. He could see she was itching to be with her friends. “You’re warm?” Cameron patted the reflective blanket he had draped over his knees, then lifted the to-go mug with hot cocoa. “I’m good.” “And you won’t get bored?” “Jesus, Anna. You’re worse than Mom. Go!” He winked at her. “Show off your fine ass in those new jeans.” “Cam!” Putting her fists on her hips, she pretended to be scandalized, but then she laughe

    Making it Right

Well, I certainly didn't see this coming. It's a sore topic for me. Doesn't always go like this, that's for sure.

    First Decision

Thanks to aunty Google for answering what the heck are conchs and snowbirds. Can't help myself, lol. Well, it was a special birthday, so the celebrations can take a little longer.

    50th Birthday

This caught my eyes a while ago, but I never got around actually reading it. Thanks for the nod, the frown, the lifted eyebrow and the grin. All within a few minutes.
  18. A Christmas Memory When I was ten years old, I was a typical horse-crazy little girl. I had a herd of model horses that jumped Lego jumps, pulled Lego wagons with yarn harnesses, and ran all over my parents’ gardens in our backyard. We lived in the suburbs, so I contented myself with my plastic doppelgangers and my shelves of horse books—both fact and fiction. I was a sponge when it came to reading anything about horses. I knew all the breeds, colors, parts of the horse, and what differe
  19. Christmas Fair When cheerful carols sound from everywhere And smiling children hold their parents’ hand While cotton candy scents the very air And embers crackle at the chestnut stand We know that Christmastime is all around To warm the heart with love and spicy wine And we go home, a place that’s safe and sound And nicely done with candy canes and pine. While blinking lights illuminate the town They do not reach some alleys, cold and dark Where people live, forgotten and pushed do
  20. Cole: Oh, I’m sure you have hidden talents to share. For example, you’re a wonderful reviewer who made my day with a giggle!!! Perhaps we could have a version of Chopped with your pantry and fridge!!! Anyway, thanks for a thoughtful and jolly review. It’s much appreciated.
  21. Cole: I’m glad you enjoyed the stocking stuffer and yes, you are a very good guesser. I have a theory I presented in this vignette. Think of American Thanksgiving as an event which celebrated coming out of a time of want. Christmas and yule are holidays of light in the time of darkness. Both seem to have roots in hard times which generate a rich tradition of reflection coming from hard times. Thank you for such an insightful and lovely review!
  22. Cole: I’m glad you’re enjoying the treats! We wanted to give a mix of emotions in these little stories and literary amuse bouches. Thanks for the lovely review.
  23. Cole: Sometimes these spontaneous events can create the best memories. They get people to react naturally and since these guys love each other, they had a blast. I’m glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks for the warm and touching comments!!!
  24. Cole: Like you, we love a frittata which is both as elaborate as you want and yet simple and delicious. Having a lovely companion of any species is special. A warm fire, some lovely music, and happy thoughts are what we all share. Thanks for the awesome comments!!!
  25. Cole: The most important part is being together and enjoying the time. Ran and I don’t get enough sometimes because work and other things get in the way. I think Lonnie and Stephen enjoyed learning that lesson. Thanks for the kind review!!
