I immediately thought the same thing when Max and Ava chose to go to the Delacour clan. I assume Henri is dead for trying to expose all to the humans. I didn’t see a mention of Katherine joining Caspian’s clan, so perhaps she’s taking over Delacour? As for Konstantin choosing to spend the night with his bloodsong, I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. If Kavan hadn’t been acting like an entitled brat, he would’ve gone when first summoned and maybe Konstantin could’ve pulled him aside. At this point, I’d say Caspian is well within his rights to save face by punishing Kavan for his blatant lack of respect. He must be Kavan’s father, and that’s why he doesn’t hurt him. The Konstantin-Katherine-Kavan situation reminds me of a father with a new stepmom for his son. Everyone has to get used to each other and the two need to stop competing for dad’s attention.

Kavan and Gideon: Can you say “bloodsong?” Gideon can’t stay away, and as the song goes, “it’s a thin line between love and hate.” This puzzled me, too. If they’re pissed at the Night clan, they better be passed at the Delacour clan as well. And man, I hope whatever hit Konstantin isn’t poison that affects vampires … or cut his hand off!! Dude has suffered enough.

I came back to re-read the chapter and I’m struck by the missing guards at the beginning and Konstantin hearing a noise and dismissing it. These two things will prove important, I fear … As for dear old dad, I imagine him catching some ancient curse on one of his expeditions.

Such a good chapter, great at moving the plot along. But I was shocked at how Austin and Tyler moved to the back of the action. I assume it’s because they would both be upset and worried, so the other characters carried the action. But I wanted to see their goodbye when Tyler went to his family. It was probably incredibly hard to part. I was also surprised by Ashton’s selfishness at shoving past Austin to get out the door first when everyone returned. His brother’s mate went through the wringer! Now that most of Tyler’s family is in Montana, I have to ask: what time of year is it? Will the kids need to be enrolled in school? As for the other hybrids, my earlier fear has returned. I hope Huntington doesn’t have them all killed to destroy evidence. And like an earlier commented said, I do think Huntington wants that laptop.

His dad IS there! “He had parents, a sister and brother, even a niece! Things were even improving with his father. Slowly, but surely. He sat on the other side of Finn and was watching River with a smile.” Great story. As someone who also deals with anxiety, I found a lot that resonated. Love the growth and comfort Alec displayed at the end. The hardest thing is to get out of your own way. (This goes for several characters in the story, lol.) Will there perhaps be a River-focused story once you’ve taken a rest?

Great chapter that really moved the story along! Kavan is Konstantin’s One Childe, so I think that excuses him. Kavan noted Rylan’s blood tasted weird. I bet he had a disease that would’ve killed him soon, anyway. I worry that the story won’t hold up under scrutiny. Kavan threw his shoe on the bank; it’s probably a different style and size from Rylan’s. Hell, if Caspian will know all that stuff about Rylan’s death, he’ll probably know that too, lol.

Great chapter, and there are some insightful comments here. I’m fascinated by Austin’s hostile response to Tyler. I think it’s because Tyler is human, and human males have done nothing but horrible things to him and his brother. The leeriness Austin and Tyler have for the other’s species adds an extra layer to their already complicated relationship. I’m also interested to see how the conflicting pulls of “stay with mate” and “go rescue more hybrids” plays out with E&T. If they decide to stay with the twins they’ll have major guilt. It’ll be like abandoning the other captive hybrids. Another team needs to be trained up. Perhaps Caleb and Corbin?? I legit don’t see how all this can be wrapped up in about 10 chapters. There’s too much at play. There’s gotta be another story coming.

Agreed. And Mother wasn’t at the fight, I’m sure — not only is she too weak, she’s also too much of a coward. At least Konstantin, Emil and Doc survived. If Konstantin had died, I might’ve stopped reading. I had the same response as Kavan upon learning Simone died. But unfortunately, one of three men above will probably become her first Elder. Why can’t they all just leave? Konstantin can “support” her from afar. I still don’t get it.

I think the twins are living and recovering as best they can with a great protector. They wouldn’t want to contact their parents because of 1) the abuse they’ve suffered (wouldn’t be surprised if they were forced to perform sex acts on each other), and 2) they’re ashamed of how they look. Since they were some of the earliest hybrids to be auctioned, I bet the physical changes are not as severe as they are for the others (esp. since they went to a human). I wouldn’t be surprised if they can communicate. Or I’m completely wrong and will cringe when I see the real story. That’s what usually happens. But it’s so fun guessing!

Agreed. And why hasn’t Kavan asked Konstantin yet about why he submits to Mother’s will? Why he doesn’t just go join the Delacours? While I appreciate Kavan’s innocence, goofiness and lack of chill sometimes, I’m curious why he isn’t MORE curious. (And what was Konstantin sent out with Simone to do? Esp. since Konstantin’s rank was stripped away. Felt like a trap.) The Tavern seems like a cool place. Great for moving all sorts of plots along. 🙂 BTW, is it pronounced Kah-VAN or KAH-van or Kevin??

The way I read the comments, it’s not that people were disappointed because they didn’t get a HEA. Vincent is alive and with his mate. That’s a happy ending! The criticism is about the way we got to the end of the chapter. I agree with all of it. If you decide to go back and edit after thinking about the feedback, you will probably improve the chapter. You’re a fantastic writer! We can’t do what you do. But with this chapter, you learned there’s a way to become better. You don’t strike me as the kind of person who wants to rest on their laurels; I know you want to be the best writer you can be. I honestly believe most of the comments are trying to help, even though they unintentionally hurt. But the passionate response is because you captured people’s imaginations, and they feel that they know the characters so well, the last chapter didn’t read completely true. I’m VERY aware that you other popular authors are doing this because you love it, and we’re the lucky recipients of your output. Thank you for sharing with us!

Great chapter! It’s so nice to have another rescue. So I’m thinking about how the hybrids can communicate. You know how scientist Stephen Hawking had software he could use to speak? What about a wolf translator: something that could be taught what the different whines and inflections mean and translate them into speech.

I’m really liking Team Double K (Kontastin-Kavan)! Their friendship circle is pretty rad. Some questions: 1) Why does everyone submit to Elvira’s will? She’s like everything stereotypical + Hollywood vampires. I half expected Blade to interrupt the orgy, lol. 2) But seriously, why is that basic bitch in charge? 3) is there something special about Kavan, that he’s able to help Konstantin heal so quickly? 4) Is it pronounced Kon-STAN-tin or KON-stan-teen? 5) We didn’t get the bloodsong explanation! (Not questioning, just minor pouting.)

Hurricanes take days and are so mercurial. As your earlier example illustrated, you can run to safety that turns out to be a bullseye. Earthquakes may f*ck everything up, but they come and go in seconds. I made a fourth point in an edit, but the comments are fast and furious when a chapter is first posted. My fear is that once the word gets out, those that “own” altered pups will immediately kill them (to get rid of evidence) and run to save their own miserable hides.

First, so relieved to hear you and your residents are ok, @kbois. I went through hurricanes on the N.C. coast, and it’s the main reason I live in California now, LOL. Ok, four things. 1) I was surprised by this comment from Tyler, who had Cameron within earshot: “We can't exactly sneak him through the fucking hallways. It's not Halloween, for Christ's sake!" That was cruel as hell. 2) Kage: the fae told Elijah that Kage isn’t his mate, but whoever the shapeshifter winds up with, because of the mate bond the person will feel and come to love Kage, too. So there’ll possibly be a throuple of souls, which would make sense given how much Kage and Elijah love each other. 3) Scrubber6620 makes an important point. My fear is that once the word gets out, those that “own” altered pups will immediately kill them (to get rid of evidence) and run to save their own miserable hides. 4) I’m not convinced the change to the pups is irreversible. These were humans messing with shifter DNA, correct? If the molecules could be altered once, they can be altered again. Given the near-magical nature of shifters, I think anything is possible. I wonder if the scientists will try stem cells.

You coulda just said, “wait and see.” 😄

I know Yakov died with no regrets, but I did wonder if Cyrus felt a bit responsible. The final showdown: 1) We know what Stefan is wearing (black trench coat totally on brand + great weapon); what is Vincent’s battle gear? 2) I’m surprised Mason came along because Stefan can use him against Vincent and he could also be a distraction. 3) What is Stefan expecting to happen if he kills Vincent? That he’ll immediately be bestowed mega-power like in “Highlander”? Finally, do other mages know that eventually their power running out will kill them and WHY DIDN’T YAKOB MENTION HE TRAINED VINCENT’S MOTHER EARLIER?

Great chapter, but I’m confused by the timing. Jonathan left the letter, then flew home, had a nap, had dinner, then went to bed. Had a morning ride with Asta, was about to be sexually assaulted by Drew, then Maddox appeared. Maddox read the letter, went shopping with Mom, Rusty showed up, they got packed for the road trip, then somehow arrived at Jonathan’s the next morning. They drove nonstop thru the night?

You know, earlier I commented that Jonathan’s parents wouldn’t want the video to see the light of day, but that doesn’t mean they would be above using it as a threat. Drew and his family being there and Jonathan being told to leave Sunny Hill is too much of a coincidence. At least Jonathan showed Maddox the video and left his address. This sets up a very nice denouement.

J.El is probably joking, but no way would Maddox watch that video without feeling all kinds of jealous and also wounded on Jonathan’s behalf. NO ONE but Drew was supposed to see that video. It’s so awful that it’s out in the internet wild. Earlier in the chapter Jonathan vowed no more lies, not even those of omission. And what is he doing now? Lying by omission. Grrrr. Eff “the mood” — he has important news to deliver. I hope Florence knocks on the door holding the letter addressed to Maddox that fell out of Jonathan’s drying coat. Because this can only go on for so long.
