In my opinion, the fact that the operation is still going on two hours in is good sign. If Thad was going to die from silver poisoning, he probably would’ve done so in the first 30 minutes. With Ethan and two cardiac surgeons working on him, I’d be shocked (and pissed, lol) if Thad didn’t pull through. What surprised me was Trevor not getting a single text from his best friends, if only to say they were on their way and thinking of him and the betas. Speaking of Trevor, *singsongy voice* Trevor’s got a maaaaate ….

Which is why I was surprised when Colby mentioned Parallax doesn’t scratch. He’d seen the marks the day before. Maybe they’d just looked like pinpricks, and he was alarmed at the thought there might be scratches — like Parallax had messed with Beckett again, or the pinpricks had grown. I agree with @raven1 that a description would help.

I’m glad you’re continuing with this story, and the premise is interesting. Some comments: — It made sense that the guys would easily slip back into their relationship as if no time had passed; the best friendships are like that. And their matter-of-fact discussion about major life decisions — kids, marriage — also makes sense in a way, because their social skills may have been stunted by the way they grew up. But damn, the cavalier way they discussed the death of Mac’s siblings in front of his mom was borderline cruel, in my opinion. — Mac’s lack of curiosity about how much Devin and his family know about him, plus the absence of interest in the family house is weird to me, but maybe it’s just him being a teenage boy? 😄 — There’s no description of what either guy looks like, nor what their personal style is — has it changed, stayed the same? What do they plan to major in? What books do they like the read? Games they like to play? Social media? Did Devin play football? Details that make them more fully-formed characters. — I would’ve like to read about Mac’s decision to choose a school in Colorado in hopes that he might run into Devin. On its face, it’s such a foolish decision. But what if he had a gut feeling that this was something he needed to do, an intuition? Take more time with the characters and the story, is what I’m saying.

As others have mentioned, I didn’t understand Kalian’s inaction. So much power to stop the madness, yet he didn’t wield it. I do understand walking into a trap, even though you know it’s a trap. You wanna know what the hell is going on! But couldn’t they have been more covert?? AND WHO THE FUCK IS FEEDING THE ENEMY SUCH ACCURATE AND TIMELY INFO? I’m wondering if Rydian knows all this himself — and that his powers are so strong they’ve driven him mad. I’m glad the muse is with you, @Demiurge. Ride that bitch like Seabiscuit! This story is compelling as fuck, and you are doing an excellent job of making us miserable 😆. When I saw there would be grief this chapter, I desperately hoped it would be Kalian’s for his family. But I knew it was really Loren.

Uh, so who’s gonna tell Kavan that Gideon refused his blood because he loves Kavan too much to saddle the young vampire with a broken, centuries-old soul who has a death wish? And Kavan is so painfully young … and immature. Maybe Aykut, when Kavan shakes loose from the spell the conte put on him. What I wanna know is, why did Sapphire hate Gideon so much? Because he was the lyken’s favorite?

I don’t understand the point of this story. Some people live cursed lives?? I know not every story on this site must have a HEA, but dayum. The ending was so flippant, too … Just stunned. I wish I hadn’t read it.

Poor Seth. It takes some cowardly, insecure, bigoted assholes up beat up someone innocent and so much smaller than them. For sure Cassidy had a hand in that beating. Wonder if they’d be so willing to fight if they were up against Skylar and Randy. Speaking of Randy, unless he’s ready to come out himself, that kiss might have been a mistake. Maybe he and Skylar can start up something when Trevor returns to school? They both seem tied to the town and not interested in leaving. The Lycan involved in the attack: I’m surprised the guys don’t recognize his scent.

Warning, “Twilight” reference: Jacob was drawn to Bella because his true mate turned out to be her daughter. Maybe Trevor was drawn to Shannon because his true mate is her twin sister, or a brother?

I guess Shannon has a sugar mama, or that chick is important to her goals in some other way. (That, or she has dissociative identity disorder.) I find it interesting that she even wears a different perfume with her girlfriend. No wonder Shannon fucks like a rabbit at school — she’s trying to get all the dick she can before she has to go home!

It could be that I’m just dim, but why take chances? I agree. I actually wondered if they really *were* communicating and Kavan thought it was just his imagination. We’ll find out when they reunite.

Leeet’s got back to Angel. Gideon was around age 4 when he was killing others in a cage whilst wearing leather pants with jewels woven into his hair?? And grown-ass nonhumans participated in auctions to win the right to do whatever they wanted to a small child???

Wow!! Didn’t see ANY of this coming! I thought Sapphire might be Gideon’s sister; not ready to let that go yet. I figured the blood is Caspian’s, the oily flavor because he’s hella old and half-witch? I also thought Caspian gave his blood (even though Konstantin is right there…?) because Kavan had most of his own sucked out by Gideon. I think the two are mates and Gideon didn’t want to bond with Kavan against Kavan’s will. I assumed Kavan could heal Gideon because mates, but I like @CincyKris’s hypothesis of Kavan being able to save Gideon from Armin’s bite because he killed Armin (with help from India’s knife). Thank goodness Kavan unintentionally snitched on Gideon and his cohort. Caspian (Gideon’s sire? Did I miss that?) and Konstantin are gonna cuss Gideon out when he recovers.

Cool chapter! Love the name Ombro. I also love the way this story pokes at how over-the-top vampire culture (and those who love/envy/hate/aspire to it) has become. I have questions. How old was Sina? Imagining a 30-year-old in a see-through nightgown is different from imagining a 70-year-old. Did Gideon wipe her memory with that last bite? Or was a spell involved after? Is the ability to read minds Gideon’s second ability? Being invited into candidate training for Caspian’s personal guard seems like an honor. It also seems like you’d have to be a bad-ass to even be considered. Ry has reached that level of fighting ability already??

Interesting chapter. I want to make sure I understand. Caspian is the son of a witch. A very old female vampire met him and decided to change him. Is Caspian her One Childe? When you say her personality changed, I immediately thought of Lestat’s mother in Anne Rice’s vampire series. He made her a vampire and then she became very cold and left him.

Thank you for coming back to this story! It’s frustrating to see so many people have concerns about this trip and no one really speaks up so they can discuss it. Sigh. BOYS. lol And I didn’t think I’d say this, but I’m kinda rooting for Lyme.
