Sometimes further development of secondary characters can detract from the story line. Those secondary characters are better served by a spin off when that occurs. Like any form of intuition, clairvoyance etc, it's a skill to be developed.

If I were to find my CSR was trying to talk with another customer at the same time s/he was supposedly handling my issue, I would come to the conclusion my business is not important enough to them and would change banks.
