Every person mourns in their own way, and their own time. However, I think you may be more in shock than apathetic.

My 17 yo is extremely overweight. I've been trying to change his diet and eating habits for a while, the spaghetti squash was one that stuck. He's seeing a pediatric cardiologist (high blood pressure). She got him to change a few things. Apparently Eating or drinking sweet things makes us hungry again an hour later.even artificial sweeteners do the same. He's mostly given up sodas and the obvious sweet things. Still ate 5 yogurts in one night. We're seeing a dietician this week and I'll pass on anything she says then.

We use spaghetti squash as a substitute for pasta now. Cut in half, remove seeds, bake at 350 for 30 minutes. I'm hoping to grow zucchini and yellow squash and try them instead of pasta this summer.

From the days when we were tight On cash, my basic pantry had: dried beans, several types (hubby and son believed red beans and rice was different from black beans and rice) canned tomatos, whole, diced, diced with chilis boullion cubes (we now use reduced salt broth or stock) canned veggies: generic veg-all, green beans, corn, carrots flour, baking powder, baking soda, bread yeast generic flavored gelatin rice various pasta, macaroni, angel hair, rotini, etc cheap cereal pb and jelly oil and shortening fresh veggies and fruit potatoes cabbage carrots onions apples grapes when cheap but stored in freezer I'd get family packs of the following and divided into 6 ounce packages: ground meat, beef, chicken or turkey, whichever was on sale chicken quarters (cheap) pork chops occassionally a large roast which could be 4 meals frozen mixed veggies, hubby prefers the blends with cauliflower and broccoli Quick soup could be veg-all, tomatoes boullion, ground beef and spices I would make biscuit dough, line a cupcake pan with the dough, fill with chopped leftovers, top with a little cheese and bake. My son loved these for lunch, and hubby loved them for snacks. Treats were there frozen grapes or gelatin left over pork or the occasional ham slice would go in a pot with 1/2 head cabbage, some chopped carrots, onions and potatoes. Add peppercorns and a bay leaf, what dad called boiled dinner

For a while we were food insecure too. There was a program called Angel Food (closed due to mismanagement/greed/fraud). I could buy a box of food for $25 that was supposed to feed a family of 4 for a week. With some creativity, like using half a pound of ground beef in the hamburger helper, And supplementing cheap breakfast and lunch, I fed three of us for 2 weeks. Without that we would not have made it. A popular recipe then was 1/2 pound cooked meat, shredded or crumbled, 2 cups cooked rice, diced onion, and diced pepper, small amount of Cajun seasoning. Heat the meat, onion, pepper in a sauce pan until onion is cooked. Heat rice in the microwave, mix it all together with the spice, pseudo dirty rice. Cost then was about $1.50, made enough for dinner for 3, and lunch for the boy and I the next day.

Long ago, the family cook used left overs. That didn't mean that you ate roast chicken two days in a row. It meant that the left over chicken from Sunday's dinner, became the meat in chicken and dumplings, chicken pot pie, chicken ala king or tetrazzini. The modern take on this is an energy/time saver: cook all your mat for the week on the weekend, and freeze. This saves energy because the oven, grill, or whatever is already preheated. Cook enough chicken, beef or whatever for several meals. Then heat in the microwave or in a pan. My favorite was fajitas, tacos, or similiar with left overs. Not sure how this could b done for meatless meals.

Keep it in terms h'll understand, something like a baby is going to come live with us. I 100% agree he needs his own baby to take care of, especially when his parental units are caring for the baby, he can do the same for his. We did this with my oldest nephew. Don't be surprised , or upset, if he shows jealousy or anger on his baby. At one point my sister was feeding the baby and my nephew was upset and sat on his doll.

I am very sorry about Echo. Unfortunately not surprised. Concentrate on the healthy ones you have. The next birth will go much better. -
Happy and sad moments-mini-cat's kitten
DynoReads commented on Aditus's blog entry in Aditus' Road Blog
I'm sorry about Alpha. It's sad but often one dies, particularly with the first litter. It's like the mother's body has to figure out what to do during pregnancy and delivery, according to a friend who is an amateur breeder (not puppy mill). As soon as you can, have echo checked by a vet. Animals, particularly mothers, have strong instincts. Mini-cat may smell or hear something off with Echo, and pushed him/her aside to focus on the kittens that are strong. one other thing, next litter, don't dry the kits off. If you need to, do a rub down to help one breath, but let Mini-cat get to the amniotic sac on the kittens and afterbirth. As gross as it sounds, mother cats, and dogs, need to eat that stuff. It helps them recover from birthing and start milk production. -
Many of them are/were in the skull. Infants skulls are not one bone when born, to allow the child to be born. As the newborn grows the bones meet and grow together. Not the full difference, but about 10ish.

Mathematical Proof To....something

Put in the familiar form used in US text books, a^2 + 2ab + b^2 and I forget the name of that equation -
That's called "stinking thinking". It won't go away by ignoring itWhen you think you aren't worth your salt, make the choice to change it, list your skills, including your writing. Substitute the good thought. I think this is called cognitive therapy.

Attention To Detail, Or Loosing The Human Touch
DynoReads commented on DynoReads's blog entry in DynoReads' Blog
My husband works for a hugee comapny, hundreds of thousand employees worldwide. At one time there was a sales man with the same first name and last name spelled with an e not an "i". They frequently got each other's email. One Saturday my husband had been called in to cover an absent employees shift. A woman making a left turn on a green arrow failed to yield right of way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, my son. The responding officer took my driver's license and called the main number where my husband works to have security tell him that his son was being taken to the local children's hospital. The receptionist entered the name with the e, left a message for the other guy that his son was hit by a car. Thankfully that guy only had daughters. When th message finally did get to my husband, it was his daughter to the local hospital, which confused him since she lived 120 miles away. Simple details, like an I, e, or a whole name are important. -
Somewhat ironic that this may contain errors caused by only having my left hand to type... my dad dad had died 3 years before I got engaged, so I wanted to keep my name. I also have some now obsolete software manuals authored in my maiden name. Our compromise was to combine, ex Williams-Smith. First issue is that my driver's liscense couldn't have 14 characters. The hyphen was deleted, and using the example, WilliamsSmith. I have to bring photo I'd to all doctors appointments. So the office staff is aware of the correct spelling and punctuation, or lack there of, of my name. Yet I get asked, which name do you use? Do you know if that's filed under Williams or Smith? The latest round of doctors I have pointed out "my last name is one word, 13 letters, no hyphen, no space, and I use the whole thing." Prior to the surgery a tech wrote on my right arm, in bright green ink, my name and the surgery being done. He even checked the spelling because the name is usually spelled with an e, but we use an I. Yet I still got a call today from a post op nurse checking my recovery, and she asked for my maiden name. It may only be a big deal to me, butaa person's name is tied to their view of themselves. When someone arbitrarily changes it to fit his/her own concepts, it takes away from the individual. My husband puts it a little more crudely: "If someone says my name is Bob, spelled S-u-e. I'm d*** well going to say Bob, and write Sue."

Hoodie and the Blowfish opening for Bryan Adams, just before their first song hit the billboard charts, like less than a month. Also so a local radio station does a day long concert of various tribute bands. The first time, when we had lawn seats and sat next to a group of women my age on a ladies night out. I was there with my 12 year old son, and my hubby who had just had reparative surgery for a broken collar bone. They made sure my son had fun, while having fun themselves without being inappropriate.

So I tried to call my primary care physician for the name of orthopedist. The number is disconnected. Maybe I have the wrong number saved, so I do a google search. In Nov. 2016, 8 area doctors were arrested for a "pill mill", and prescribing fatal doses of hydrocodone. Mine was one of them. So I have to find a new primary care doctor as well as an orthopedist. Btw, for those that might remember, I was upset hearing my doctor ordering ammunition, same guy.

Guess What! You Won't Make It To Fifty

I forgot one, possibly the biggest. My dad had to help his uncle after school, in the late 30's and early 40's, because the uncle had ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease. Usual life expectancy about 20 years. I met the man in 1972. He managed a lot longer than the doctors expected. -
Unintentional Consequences Of St Louis And B'more Riots.

I hate gravel too. If I had seen the gravel, or Ben warned, I would have power walked the bike across. I actually haven't seen the bike. The wipe out knocked me out briefly, or a probably phobic blackout triggered by the fall. I recovered full awareness already in the ambulance. Just in time to prevent the EMT cutting my chaps. It was still running when hubby came back to help, so I assume the engine is sound. Have to replace a tail light, the brake pedal and something on the headlight. I'll know more when I see it, or I get it to the mechanic c. -
Guess What! You Won't Make It To Fifty

Doctors underrate human spirit and will. A work accident and injured my dad's back. He was told he would never walk again. He walked out of the hospital and resumed his volunteer fire fighting. My older brother developed an artery disease when he was 42, one not usually seen before 80. 6 years later his doctor told him that he was suprised, he didn't think my brother would live 6 months. My brother lived to a few months short of 53. My older sister was born 6 weeks early in 64. She only lived an hour. A friend I made in college was born 5 yeas later, 7 weeks early. Medical science, knowledge and equipment had advanced enough tha he lived, obviously, but spent 4 months in intensive care. Advanced to 2007, my sister's youngest was delivered by em rgecy c-section, 6 weeks early and not even 4 pounds. He was home to celebrate his 2 week birthday. Also think about HIV+. It once was a death sentence. Now there are treatments to prolong life, and even prevent it. Hopefully a cure or immunization will be found soon. sometimes doctors say it that way to make you realize you have to make changes. Not knowing your circumstances, I'll tell you this: don't give up. Medical science may come up with something in the next decade and a half. Keep living your life as best you can. Cause once you stop living, you start dieing.- 48 comments

Unintentional Consequences Of St Louis And B'more Riots.
DynoReads posted a blog entry in DynoReads' Blog
I laid the bike down yesterday when I ran into gravel across the road on a blind curve. Sheriff came, police and ambulance. One deputy got surly with hubby when he asked why there weren't warning signs out about the gravel. After all the road is a popular route for bikers on their way to Big Slick's Bar and Eatery and The motorcycle outpost. Gravel like that is a serious danger for bikers. Later when the ER is releasing me I can find my license in my purse, but not the case I keep my license and d bit card, nor my debit card. I call the sheriff's office, assuming I my case had been dropped in the squad car. Eventually the deputy from the scene calls me back. He surly tells me he distinctly remembers putting my case in the black purse with pink stripes. I responded that my bag has an eagle on it, and I don't normally wear pink. He'll get back to me. 20 minutes later the EMT calls, she found my card in her purse. I can't speak for my husband, after all his heart condition makes him aggressive when upset/angry, but I kept my tone neutral at all times. I also carefull chose my words to let them know I believed it was accidentally misplaced. At no point did I even hint that someone stole my card. But I got the short end of his temper. the card is back in my possession, so all I have to do is find an orthopedist about my knee, and heal. -

When I was in elementary school we had a monthly magazine, which carried a regular column written by a cockroach on a typewriter. I don't remember much else except it didn't use capitals or punctuation marks.

Sometime in 2009 or before, I was home alone with my son when my phone rang. We had caller id on a huge globe, and the caller was listed as "Victoria, BC" with a number I didn't recognize. I let the answering machine get the call. The message, from a woman, was "Where are you babe? I miss you. I love you." I thought it was a wrong number as my phone number was unlisted. Except I discovered that hubby had forgotten his personal cell phone, which was ringing with a call from the same number. A minute or two later, I learned he had also left his work cell phone at home when that also rang with the same number. When he got home from work, feeling betrayed I played the message for him and asked what it was about. He said it was nothing, just some woman he met on IMVU, a game he played. It was just some "internet thing" and didn't mean anything. I was furious, he was dismissing my feelings as inconsequential and irrational. I started looking for ways to leave him. My plan: 1) get a work force certificate or a degree to prove I have an usable skill set 2) stay with hubby and work for a year to clean up my credit 3) move out and file for divorce In fall of 2009, my older brother paid my tuition and a friend bought the course text so I could start an office technology course and become and admin assistant. That didn't work out too well. Not because I couldn't handle the self-paced work, I completed it in 6 weeks with an A. The problem was with the college IT department and some weird issue with my username being 15 characters due to my 13 character last name and the print spooling software. I could print one assignment, and then I'd have to switch machines to print the next one. So most of the 4 hours I spent in the lab was waiting on computers to boot and log in. The IT department was not interested in fixing the issue since I had a work around, that is switching computers. So I dropped out. Miserable, stuck at home due to no transportation and no child care for my then young son, I eventually found this site. An infected tooth and high doses of tylenol with codeine reduced my fears enough to try chat. That changed my life. I made friends here who helped me realize I could still fix things in my life. I was determined to complete my plan, and get free. Originally I was planning on going back for the office technology certificate. Not a glamorous job, or extremely high paying, but it would pay a living wage. But the program had moved campuses, and was being overhauled. My older brother kept pushing me to do something with my BS in computers, but my skills were out of date. Chatting with AJ, Phantom, and a few other techies had me looking at the community college's computer department. There was a certificate in Cisco networking, 4 courses, about $625 in tuition, over 2 to 4 semesters. A quick check showed a payment program that would work. My older brother died, which made me more determined to do this. As soon as I could get the money, I bought a scooter for $800 and I started in March of 2015 with 2 courses. On a whim in Fall of 2015 I applied for a scholarship. I didn't think I'd qualify because I had exhausted my financial aide eligibility getting my bachelors. However, I was awarded a scholarship for spring 2016, enough to go full time, not 2 classes a semester, but 4 or 5. When the application process for scholarships for 2016-2017 opened up, I applied again. Someone must have really wanted to help me. I won another scholarship - from a community college in Illinois. Enough to cover full time tuition for both semesters. Somewhere during this time I realized that the Cisco certificate and 3 other certificates overlap so much that it's maybe 2-3 courses to get more than one. I made an appointment and talked with the program advisor. She looked at my previous college degree and pointed out that I could transfer that work in and earn a degree instead of a certificate, without having to take any more classes. She also confirmed that I could earn more than one degree or certificate. So I'm taking my last 3 classes, should graduate in May, with honors. I need to be applying for permanent jobs, internships and an unpaid apprenticeship. I also need to talk to my advisor and apply for my Cisco networking certificate. I have finished the 4 courses, and just need to take the Cisco exam to be a certified CCNA. I can't bring myself to do any of it. I'm scared I guess. Time to divide and conquer again. So tomorrow I'm going to campus early and talking with the advisor. I'm going to start the process for a certificate and find out how I get an internship. Maybe by blogging here I'll actually do it.
