Let the guessing continue! LOL I made the dads' friends all gay thinking it would be realistic. CJ's group will be much more diverse. Not all will play for our team.

Did you notice both Chipper and Cristina did not want to talk to their parents at first? Do you think there are some trust issues there? Divorce is forever (unless you're Liz Taylor) and the effects can last for years.

Good to have you along for the ride, buddy. Seeing a comment from you always makes me smile.

Thanks, Jeff! I started reading a new story this week and promptly abandoned it. The first paragraph was two long sentences using so many damn adjectives I had to read it several times before it made sense. Half the descriptions could have been sprinkled throughout the chapter later and allowed the slow reveal of the character and object mentioned. Oh well, different authors, different styles.

By now you've figured out what happened, so I won't talk about Bernardo. He'll get what's coming to him. I tried to make the characters hail from as different locations as possible, one more way of showing how no matter where we come from, we can still join together as a family. Dasan/Dash is from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Trip is the Texan in the group.

Oh, please... give me a break! The reason I stopped where I did is the next chapter's dedicated entirely to Chipper performing and picking a coach. 4pm Tue right now, chapter's set to post at 4am Fri. We can count the hours down together. BTW, my Chipper playlist is on right now. I think I did good with the music, a little something for everyone.

LOL Then it's drugs. I swear, I was done writing CJ and every motorcycle trip to see Dad in Miami was an exercise in trying not to think about the characters. It's gotten better, I'm plotting other stories and characters these days. But now and then, an idea for a scene pops in my head, and next thing you know I'm trying out dialogue lines.- 482 replies

That was by design. Chipper has some history and it's relevant to the story, but most of those people in his past don't play a significant role. My avoidance of specific names was meant to keep the focus on Chipper.

Glad you feel that way, that was the intent of this chapter, provide background while still moving the story forward.

I mentioned before that during the planning and writing of the story I watched 3 seasons of the show. Like I did with Ellen when I had her interview some of my characters, I jotted down a phrase here and there. Particularly ones Carson repeated often. You get to hear the coaches in the next chapter, I hope you feel the same about the way I wrote them.

Don't do it, tim . Trust me on this. You write anything that long, your life will never be the same. The worst is when those characters won't stop talking to you even after you shut down the computer!- 482 replies

Thanks, Tony. Some stories will give you all the background information on characters in the first few paragraphs; I obviously don't follow that approach. It felt much more organic to share the info in bits and pieces and through dialogue instead of boring readers with extensive narration. The fact I was able to use his sister to disclose the details was even better. A third party helps put things in perspective.

I'm not sure why kids are so fascinated by chest hair. My nieces and nephews all pulled on the little I have when they were infants.

The group of high school friends Chipper talks about so much dispersed after graduation, only a handful remained in Washington. Careers and family may further separate them as those in college finish up, but I don't think geography will ever sever their bonds. I blame drug abuse in my youth for how my mind works. Make sure your seat belt's securily fastened; we pick up speed in the next chapter.

What toddler isn't fun? Well, except when they're pooping or throwing a tantrum. Their innocence and curiosity are captivating. Just ask @Daddydavek about his grandson.

Glad you enjoyed it!

I hope you realize there's no way I'm giving you a straight answer LOL No matter what I say would constitute a spoiler and we don't want future readers alerted to what's coming. I will warn you I have a tendency to leave certain story lines alone for a while before I bring them to a close. We're not done with Ritchie's parents.

CJ and the Dads are still feeling their way around each other. Those two will let CJ handle most things on his own, but they'll always try to keep an eye on him.

@erik bagge Glad you're enjoying it, Erik. It was time to focus some attention on the supporting cast.

“How old is she?” The Voice’s host, Carson Daly, sat on an armchair facing them. He knew the answer, but his question was for the benefit of the home audience. “She’ll be a year in June.” Cristina, at Chipper’s invitation and insistence, had flown to Los Angeles with Carolina to watch his initial appearance on the show. “Are you staying in town for a few days?” They sat in the green room, a large lounge full of contestants awaiting their turn on stage and their guests. “Your daughter

Wreck on the Highway
Carlos Hazday commented on Carlos Hazday's story chapter in Wreck on the Highway
@pickuptoy I love speculation! The rEason Harley's dad is ok with his son having gay friends will be revealed in a future book. I have so many damn characters I made a conscious decision to keep some people in the background. Harley's and Thiago's parents come to mind. There are several references to them, and their interactions with Brett and Cesar. If you like Harley, wait until you meet his grandparents. Surprisingly, they have a few dialogue lines. -
Can I have Kevin Costner. Field of Dreams and Bull Durham are two of my favorite baseball movies!
