  1. CJ will have moments of maturity and times when he acts his age. It'll be up to Brett and Cesar to rein him in if he goes too far. I don't want them to be helicopter parents, but they'll be involved in the kid's life. Forever. Just wait until you read about them when CJ's 30 instead of 15.

    Glory Days

I got some grief from a few readers for that conversation. After all this time, I think it fits. One more example of Cesar and Brett giving CJ a lot of leeway on what he does and what he experiences. I had a friend about 20 years younger than me who often bemoaned the loss of a generation of men to AIDS and how guys his age missed out on learning from their experiences. This early in my writing, I didn't milk enough drama out of some situations. It means I reveal details and solve mysteries rather quickly. You'll get your answers shortly.
  3. I guess I haven't revealed those details yet (I can't remember yesterday's lunch, much less small details written almost 10 years ago LOL) CJ was born while Cesar was in college, so he's a very young father. Brett's younger and we'll celebrate his birthday in Chapter 19.
  4. You may be right. I tried to make the group of friends complement each other with similar personalities while making each one an individual. Hopefully, I accomplished my goal and everyone will have their own voice.
  5. You may have to stand in line! LOL I'm working on a story set seven years later and my beta reader was very happy Brett had a lot of dialogue during a dinner party. Anything from being proud of CJ for a verbal lashing of a politician in public, to going on a "search and refill mission" when a couple of martini glasses are nearly empty. I see Brett as the mischievous kid who doesn't entirely grow up. And some of his personality rubs off on his kid.
  6. Some readers will revisit older chapters whenever a new one gets posted. If you have 12 chapters, that would mean 12 views for chapter 1, 11 for chapter 2, etc. But MrsG's right, a chunk of it is people who look at the main page and decide the story's not for them. Or read a chapter or two and lose interest. As she said, it balances and if the work's good, your future stories will fare better.
  7. Burt Bacharach sure had a way with lyrics.

There's enough on my plate already; don't complicate my life!
  9. Unfortunately, when Parliament House closed, their website disappeared. It was an old motel in Orlando, a dive with multiple bars. They threw a Mardi Gras party every year and invited our motorcycle club to parade through their parking lot. Trying not to skid on beads was our biggest concern.

That was supposed to be Randy Trevor! Yep, that's it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. It wasn't a senior moment at all.
  11. What? You consider leather boots and a jockstrap outlandish? Admittedly, I've only done that twice, but it was refreshing.

And in between I threw in charitable projects, a Russian spy, an obnoxious supervisor, and a bunch of Air Force Cadets. Oh, and winning an Oscar! Kind of what you do. I mean when Randy heads north
  13. Thanks for the fricking earbug Myr! That damn tune haunted me when I worked as a tour guide while in college. I was on that ride every week for the entire summer. Not my favorite!
  14. @PBax I am not a techie! Hell, I'm having problems installing a new modem at home. There are cases where GA can not handle formatting set by a word processor. In previous cases, staff has mentioned removing all formatting from the document when you load something in, A BLACK BAR near the screen's bottom will offer the option. If you have italics or other special formatting, you can then add it in using the GA editor. Sorry, not much of an assist, but that's the best I can do. Maybe a staff member will jump in and offer additional help. Best of luck, I know it can be frustrating.

I was adventurous in those days. Summer ended with 4 cliffhangers. The helicopter crash was at the end of Spring. At least I don't end every chapter with a cliffie They can be fun and seve several purposes but IMO, too many gets obnoxious.

It's all Wolf. But I'm proud of my pup. He gets better with each story and his eagerness to learn is admirable. I'll admit we have similar sense of humor. Editorial comments are often peppered with raunchy remarks. 😉
  17. If you edit the story itself, you can change the copyright date. I'd suggest you keep 2015 since that's when it was initially published, and add 2023 after it to cover new chapters.

I think not knowing what Shannon's issue is qualifies as a cliffhanger. I've driven by Pendleton, but I think I want Brandon as my tour guide next time. Maybe one or two of those Marines he's friendly with are into older, gray-haired men. Wolf, share the link to that video you sent me.
  19. I try and provide background for most characters throughout the story. Tough at times since I end up with quite a cast. Lourdes is more concerned with status and appearances than anything else, and her husband's just a moron. Unfortunately, men like him are a dime a dozen, particularly in the military. Their need to prove their masculinity turns them into raving homophobes. Obviously, Brett is the counterpoint. He's out and doesn't care what anyone thinks.
  20. Thank you. Brett and Cesar will have a very different approach to child rearing. CJ's a teenager in pain and they'll try anything to get help him get his head together. The brother will show up again.
  21. The episode was inspired by something that happened in Miami Beach. Years ago, a bunch of guys were arrested for soliciting sex in a park's public restroom. Not the smartest thing to begin with, but it turned out two young studly cops were enticing them. The media went ape-shit over the entrapment and the two cops were reassigned. SO yes, you're right. It can happen anywhere.
  22. Thank you my friend. I wanted something fun to wrap around a couple of opportunities to explore CJ's world-view. Since short stories are supposed to have a twist, I brought Taylor Swift into the picture. Nobody's shocked CJ gets to meet her. LOL

I drive stick. Last time I rented a car I got lost looking for the pedal with my left foot. First car was a 1972 Dodge Dart. Handed down from my father who always drove a company van.
  24. CJ's luckier than most kids rejected by their parents for their sexual orientation. Having a father who won't judge him for who he's attracted to will go a long way to help him heal his broken heart.
