    Staff Prompts #5 & #6

    By wildone,

    Prompts
Good Friday to you all  So, any plans over the weekend? Mine will be more or less that same as what I've done since March . Well, I might have one thing I'm doing that I haven't done in years . Stay tuned!
So for Staff Prompt Friday, it is an all Cia week  I'm on holidays

Prompt #5 - First Line brought to you by @Cia
He'd never forgotten those teenage years.

Prompt #6 - Creative What If brought to you by @Cia
There's an old tree I fell asleep under. I dreamed about the family who picnicked under it 50 years ago, and the family who will picnic under it in 50 years time.

If you take part in this weeks festivities, make sure you drop a link in here.

    Featured Story: Rothenian Tales

    By wildone,

    Reviews
Is it Monday already  What happened to Sunday  Well without much more delay, here is a great review on one of my all time favourites here at GA! Thanks for @ancientrichard for bringing this most excellent review!

    Rothenian Tales
    Mike Arram
    Reviewer: ancientrichard
    Status: Complete
    Word Count: 787,516
Michael Arram's Rothenian Tales focus on events in a mythical central European state which the author tells us was inspired by Anthony Hope's Ruritania, though a good deal of the action takes place in other parts of the world, especially England where the series begins. It is wise to read the stories in the order in which they were written as characters introduced in one story usually appear in many of the later stories, which contain many references to earlier events.
Mike's story The Eskaton is actually the tenth story in the series, though it is not labelled as such. His story The Golden Portifor is also set in Rothenia, several centuries before the events in the other stories, but there is no need to read it first, it could be read at any stage and is well worth reading.
The saga begins around the end of the twentieth century, when  the collapse of the Soviet Union and the consequent end of the Communist dictatorship in Rothenia  was still a fresh memory. In the first story, The Heart of Oskar Prinz, we are introduced to Rothenia in the company of a young English Schoolmaster, Will Vincent, whose life is transformed by an encounter with a young Rothenian aristocrat seeking restoration of the family estates. Later stories involve the revival of the Rothenian monarchy.  Much of the action is seen from the point of view of English school friends of the young king.
There is a strong supernatural theme in these stories. Just a hint in the early stories, the otherworldly component had become the dominant theme by the end. The supernatural can be tricky, but Arram handles it very well. While the righteous mostly triumph in the end, they don't have an easy ride. Characters are not black and white but realistic shades of grey. The 'good' characters have their lapses.  In Mike's world not even angels are entirely angelic, and, with the possible exception of a distinctly disagreeable mother in law, not even the most abominable are entirely beyond redemption though redemption is far from painless. Not many authors manage such a balance.
Mike says that he was more in love with the country than with any particular character, and I sympathise. I wish there really were a Rothenia, but I do have a favourite character. Henry Attwood, who appears as a schoolboy in the third story and is at the centre of much of the action in the later stories. Kind but not sentimental, brave but not foolhardy conscious of his own weaknesses with a well developed sense of humour,  he is the embodiment of balance and calm self critical reflection, the calm centre of the exciting turbulent world Mike has conjured up for us.
All the stories are exciting and extremely well written, the personalities of the principal characters are well developed and we see them grow as they progress through the stories of the series; these stories are about people one can believe in despite the extraordinary situations in which they find themselves.
The plots have multiple strands which gradually come together. As the main adventure progresses the individuals develop from naïve schoolboys into formidable men. Although the stories are linked by common themes and common characters,  Mike has something new to surprise us in every story.
Some of the Rothenian words are puzzling. I'd love to know how to pronounce 'Vwyszh'.

Weekly Wrap Up (Nov. 1 - Nov. 7)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
    What's up world?
I'm beginning to think I'm living in hell. What is the famous saying, when hell freezes over? Well that is happening right now in my little corner of the globe. Snow, winds of 80 km/hr or 50 mph, and just downright miserable since about 4 hours ago. I think it is time to throw the flannel sheets on the bed 🥶.
So I do want to do a special shout out to @Renee Stevens and @Valkyrie, who have agreed to postpone the deadline for the fall anthologies to the end of the month. Many have and had many different issues directing their attention elsewhere so it is totally understandable. If you think you can spare a few words  to an anthology, read up on Renee's Blog entry and or click in the below link about the Anthologies summary below.
We had a bit busier week this week, nice to keep things going here at GA.
Monday, Cia gave us a new a new CSR Feature for this month.
And on Wednesday, we had a birthday. Three years of Ask An Author 2.0 since Carlos took over this popular feature. I will point out his last comment though, 'I have no further questions inventory, so you need to send me some.' So to continue on with AAA 2.0, ask a question or two and get them in to Carlos, sooner the better!
Friday, we went back to some Staff Prompts for you all to ponder:
Saturday, we had a special Bulletin from Renee, as mentioned above.
Well that was 4 blogs this week! Wait, there is more?  Why yes, add on another 7 blog entries from our fearless leader, Myr. Check out Saturday's, if you can say that word 10 times quickly, I will give you a prize (a  ) .
Well we are nearing the end of the year on goals, I still want to give everyone a update on how we do each week, as suggested by a member. Another darn good week IMHO.

    Staff Prompts #3 & #4

    By wildone,

    Prompts
So that was a great Ask An Author from @Carlos Hazday! So, for this weeks Staff Prompts, why not reach out to someone, anyone, and ask them if you can do one of the prompts as a team? Could be interesting . May be even the start of something special 💓
Prompt #3 - Creative brought to you by @Cia
    Creative Dialogue:
"What's in that bag and why are you hiding it there?" My already racing heart tried to leap out of my throat. I tried to say something, anything, but gibberish fell past my lips. "I asked you a question." He punctuated the words with a poke to my chest.

Prompt #4 - Creative brought to you by @wildone
    Creative Scene:
It is fast approaching the holidays, and you are a solider stationed overseas. You haven't had any contact with family or friends for about a month due to logistical obstacles.
What will you do to help you though the coming weeks?

Now if you want to partake on either of these, make sure to visit the topics in the Writer's Circle to post a link to your work.

Weekly Wrap Up (Oct. 25 - Oct. 31)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Well happy Candy Hangover Day!!!
If you partook in Halloween last night that is. I guess all day yesterday I wore a mask a lot of day, but not a scary one
Talking with some friends, they said they bought the same amount of Halloween Candy this year, knowing full well that they would probably have less than 10 percent of the usual trick or treaters. The reason? They felt they could eat all the candy they wanted and not feel guilty and not worry about running out before the end of the night  So what about you, any thing special happen last night in your neck of the woods?
For a public service announcement, if you log into GA first thing in the AM and you live in most places in North America or Europe or the spotty areas in the Southern Hemisphere, did you set your clocks back an hour? The falling back of time was always been a favourite holiday of mine when I worked retail. Watching people walk right into the locked glass front doors when they thought it was 8 AM, instead of it actually only being 7 . For that reason alone, I consider it a holiday. Does that make me bad?
We had a relatively quiet week here to finish out the month of November here at the GA News Blog.
Monday, Cia was here with the ever popular CSR Discussion Day.
Then a hop, skip, jump and a sashay into Friday, where the latest and hottest thing trending on the Internet launched. We have had 1000's of new members sign up just to participate
Then everyday of this week, Old Faithfull (Myr, not the geyser in Yellowstone National Park) provided us with a Word of the Day.

And to wrap up my ad lib part of the blog, we will review with our classmates our marks this past week. Pretty darn tooting good I must say.

Weekly Wrap Up (Oct. 18 - Oct. 24)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Boo!!!
So did I skare you ?
It is less than a week now to Halloween. Does it seem due to Covid there just isn't the real excitement that most years have 😢
In my city/province trick or treating isn't banned or restricted, but some strong recommendations to keep both yourself and the kiddies safe. I wish I lived in a two story house, I so would have a plastic pipe or tube running from a second floor window and shooting the candy down to the kids that do come out. Heck, I would probably do that every year now that the suggestion is out there
What about your town/city? I know that some bad hit areas are under full lockdown again so I imagine there will not be any trick or treating  . If that is the case where you are, what are you doing this year?
Jumping right into the wrap up, on Monday we had the GA necromancer bring us a new October Classic Author Feature.

Then the site sorcereress was back on Wednesday to bring us the October Classic Author Excerpt.
Friday, the site poltergeist was back with a couple of new Guest Prompts.
Now a reminder, I really really really really need some more suggestion
Working at the site 7 days a week, the ghoulish goblin was by everyday to give us a new Word Of The Day.

And how you ask, how did our cast of crazy ghosts manage on the goals?

    Guest Prompts #14 & #15

    By wildone,

    Prompts
    What is that???
Why is there Guest Prompts again??
Well thanks to an upstanding gentleman (@Tom ) and a schmuck (@wildone)  So lets see what is up for grabs this week!
    Still looking for some more

Prompt #14 - Creative   Brought to you by @Tom
6 men, one habitation unit, ten matter converters (only one assembled).
Setting: First days of the first colony on the moon
Suggested Complication: Two female androids programed strictly for child care, and 10,000 cryogenics pods with 5 fetuses in each.

Prompt #15 - Creative   Brought to you by @wildone
Game 7 of the World Series.
It is the bottom of 9th. Bases are loaded. You are down by 1, needing 1 in to tie, 2 to win. Your team has two outs already. You're sitting at full count; 3 balls, 2 strikes. Your team is the visitors and there is 45,000 screaming, jeering, rabid fans yelling at you, never mind the other team's dugout.
The pitcher looks around the bases, all 3 runners have a healthy lead off their bases. Not enough though to risk getting a quick out. Also, an error would let 1 possibly 2  of the runners into home. Not worth it.
After confirming the call from the back catcher, he winds up and releases the ball and it is coming at you over 100 mph. You start your swing and ...

Weekly Wrap Up (Oct. 11 - Oct. 17)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
Goodness gracious, where the H E double hockey sticks did the week go  It just seemed like a couple of days ago I was doing up last weeks wrap up! The fact that we are losing weeks quicker than the Covid pounds a lot of are carrying around , means we are getting closer and closer to Christmas  Looks like I've secured a present from @clochette
So why am in saying this soooo soon? Well Friday we got a good snow fall here and today's high was -5C/23F 🥶. Yes, even in the Great White North, this is early to get into a cold snap. Well Steve, doesn't it need to be more than a couple of days to be a snap? Well take a look for yourself.

Or for you Fahrenheit freaks out there

So there is 7 days coming up, who is the 7 volunteers coming over to warm me up
Tune in tomorrow at 8, 6 and 11 for your next weather forecast
Well, short week here at the GA News Blog, so let's get at er!
Renee came by with a Featured Story from the Story Review Team here at GA. Once again, gentle reminder, if you have written a story review you are almost there to write a featured story review. Just send it into @Timothy M. or @Renee Stevens. This one was done up by @Parker Owens
Then we will hop, skip and jump over to Friday to what should have been our last Guest Prompts, where we could have changed it to @aditus's prompts  But alas, I did receive 1 prompt today. So get some into me and we will keep this train going into next week. But here is this weeks.
But do not fret  this was not everything this week! We learned that Myr's shibboleth is 'Word of the Day'  Check out all the words in the past week.
And the last thing we bring you each and every week is a check in on our goats goals. Hmm, must have been a Freudian slip. Anyone else missing @C James?

    Guest Prompts #11, #12 & #13

    By wildone,

    Prompts
So, I was really, really hoping that some new prompts would have rolled in. But alas, not to be .
@aditus has been a real trooper providing us with some great prompt ideas. So to close out the guest prompts, unless some arrive before next Friday, here is the final Guest Prompts. All from aditus

Prompt #11 - Creative   Brought to you by @aditus
Write an instruction manual with a twist. (At least 500 words.)
    For example:
How to put on a sweater with the left sleeve inside out.
How to herd cats, or make scrambled eggs without eggs.
    (Don't use the examples  )

Prompt #12 - Creative   Brought to you by @aditus (maybe this one will motivate @Myr)
A few people met for a round of Dungeon and Dragons. Snacks and
beverages are at the ready. Each player has several sets of dice in
    front of them.
The GM (game master) clears their throat. "You are in the Thornflower
    Pines forest."
Suddenly a noise sounded, as if many dice were rolled, and everyone
impersonates their D&D character sitting around  a fire on a glade.
From the off the GM's voice can still be heard."You hear thrashing and
stomping as if a large beast makes its way through the underbrush."

Prompt #13 - Technical   Brought to you by @aditus
Write a short story, song, poem or vignette that ends with: If I were...(insert an adjective.)

Now lets see who comes up with some prompts after a long absence.   All the topics have been already set up in the Writer's Circle to post your entries
    So git at em!!!

Weekly Wrap Up (Oct. 3 - Oct. 10)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
Well Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends
Although I'm sure many people are wondering what Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas will look like this year, I'm sure we will all return to what is most important to us and celebrate that! You tell me what that is to you.
So I do really want to take a moment out on this weeks wrap up to give a shout out to Carlos and all he does for the Ask An Author 2.0. He has a new one every month for Renee or me to share with everyone here. The thing is he does need some new questions. They can be serious, they can be deep, they can be fun Heck, Carlos, here is my question: As an author what do you prefer wearing when writing, boxers or briefs  Yes, you would need to take in account our female authors too, so add in briefs, square cut briefs, panties, granny panties, thongs, G-string, etc. The point is, ask it and Carlos I imagine can work it in.
I also would be remiss in not calling everyone to helping out occasionally the GA Review Team. As Timothy M says, it is quiet easy and quick to do. If you like a story you just have read, be it a new author, an old author, an in between author, or poet, fire off a review and send to Timothy M or Renee. Here is a look at past reviews the team has done that you can use as an example. Pick them out as the Featured Story:
Well what about this week, what happened at the GA Blog?
Cia was in on Monday to try to spookify us with a CSR Feature for the month. Make sure to read up and check back in for the discussion day.
Then on Wednesday, Carlos was back with another grrrrrrreat addition of AAA 2.0.
Myr kept up his daily update of aborning a Word of the Day.
Lastly, to finalize off my input, here is the goals we achieved last week.

Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 27 - Oct. 3)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
So goodbye to September and onto October. Can you believe that Canadian Thanksgiving is a week from Monday See, we have our harvest done before a lot of our southern neighbours. The holiday is about the same, rooted in early settlers giving thanks to not only the Native Americans they encountered at the beginning, but everything that happened in the previous year. Hopefully topped off with a bountiful harvest to carry through the winter. We have turkey, tons of veggies, mashed potatoes, gravy, and all the fixings. I love my cranberries! The only difference is we don't have a Black Tuesday after our Thanksgiving . A bit too early for Christmas shopping. But pumpkin spice season starts here early and goes late
Now that takes care of the US And Canada, what about the rest of the world? Do you have a day in your country that is like Thanksgiving Day here? Just curious if there is similar days? Is it celebrated in Mexico or the Caribbean?
Enough of my babbling and onto the wrap up!
On Monday, Cia lead us in the CSR Discussion Day. Did you get a chance to read the story?
Wednesday, it was time for Renee to pop in and remind us all about the upcoming Fall Anthology coming up.
And all week long were you experiencing jactitation as you got were waiting daily for the Word's of the Day by Myr?
Lastly, we will check in on the goals from last week.

    Weekly Wrap Up (Sept.21 - Sept.27)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
Hello Folks! How are you all doing on this Sunday? I think it is Sunday everywhere but soon to be Monday in Australia and New Zealand. We do have quite a few members here that are from those two countries and I imagine others that are others just over the international date line too.
So that gets me thinking  and that isn't a good thing. I remember this idea was first brought up to me in a Superman movie when I was a kid. What if you could fly faster than the speed of light, and you flew West to East, could you travel back in time?  I imagine it would still be the same day in reality no matter what day you left and arrived on. But that question and others brought up in the movies, sometimes bring up mind teasing questions? Anyone want to take on the flux capacitor in the DeLorean in Back To The Future?
So what movie gave you an idea that made you hesitate and being to wonder, could that work? Even Hot Tub Time Machine is open for debate
This week was a limited number of features in the GA weekly blog, but we will see if we can change that up this week.
Monday, Cia popped in with the September Classic Author Feature. If you want, download a neat siggy to put at the bottom of your posts.
Wednesday was the day that Cia brought us the September Classic Author Excerpt.
Myr was busy every day bringing us a new word to help our vocabulary and maybe try to use them in our written word too! Speaking of those down under, they must be having vernal thoughts right about now (no, I did not say venereal  ).
Checking in with the reading goals from last week.

Weekly Wrap Up (Sept. 13 - Sept. 19)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
So what is up in your neck of the woods?  I mean weather related.
I know that there is hurricane after hurricane battering the SE US, I know the West of the US is on fire, we have smoke and breathing advisories up here in Canadia 😮 I know it has been a early fall for some areas. What is happening over in Europe and Asia right about now? Then we can ask for a weather update from the South Americans, Africans  and Australians for the southern peeps who are transitioning to spring. Did I hear about brush fires already starting up already in Australia?
Well here, and down in Wyoming and Colorado, on the Labour Day long weekend we had s***. I couldn't believe how much s*** that some areas of Wyoming and Colorado got 😮 I imagine @Renee Stevens was definitely not looking forward to any of the s*** that happen to her! Especially with the weather the days before, it was like out of the frying pan, and into the s***. Did anyone else get a unusual dump of s*** on them?
Okay, now that I have had my fun  lets see what happened with the GA News Blog this week
Monday, Renee was kind enough to do up a review by our Super Review Team! This one done by @spikey582
Then later in the week, Renee did a revisit to promote the upcoming Fall Anthology Deadline. If you haven't cranked out an idea or two out of your head, git going
I didn't do a prompt Friday this week, 1 for leaving the Anthology reminder up a little longer, and 2 I need some more prompt suggestions from you all!!! 😮 I have I think one weeks worth left.
I'll tell you who didn't miss a day, Myr was very scrupulous this week in giving us 7 Words of the Day. Did I use that in the right context?
And now for the one thing that you all are dying to see, and rely on me to find it

    Weekly Wrap Up
What would you do if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
I will try not to sing out of key Oh, baby I get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
All I need is my buddies (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I say I'm gonna get high (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh yeah (Ooh) Joe Cocker ©   Okay, since everyone knows I sing out of tune and key, I imagine I have cleared the room  Nothing like doing the wrap up to an empty room     First thing, want to thank @drpaladin for catching me on my yearly wrap up last week  If it actually was from Sept. 30th to the Sept 5th, you'd all still be reading it     Onto this week, where the ever elusive Cia (she is everywhere ) was in to bring us the September Can't Stop Reading feature. On Wednesday, the ever elusive Renee (really she is everywhere too  ), had big big news for everyone. She announced the 2021 Anthology themes. Now, make sure you look as next year you will have soooooo many selections, there must be something in there to get your creative juices flowing
On Friday, no one worth mentioning featured two new prompts from our Members! I could really use some more from a few more people. Can be new people or people who have already submitted a few.
Now my kith, did you check out some new words for your writing or your vocabulary?

And how were the reading stats last week?

Weekly Wrap Up (Aug. 30 - Sept. 5)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
Hello Fellow GAers, or can it be GAyers?
It is funny how some cities' residents names are made. For example I live in Calgary, we are Calgarians. When I lived in Lethbridge for 10 years, I said we were Lethbians . Needless to say my fellow Lethbians didn't find it as humourous. Jeez, its a joke  The province next to me, Saskatchewan, their peoples call themselves Saskatchewanites. And then the city of Moose Jaw in that province call themselves Moose Javians. Hi, my name is Steve. First and foremost I'm a Canadian, then a Saskatchewanite as well as a Moose Javian
Care to share what your community name is, or any that you have heard that are funny or a tongue twister?
Now if we look at the GA weekly blog this week, it is small. It is sooooooo small, I think I need to tell some jokes to fill some of the space
What do you call a kid with no arms and no legs in the ocean?
I know you were thinking Bob, but you are wrong if you did so
Okay, I have a trunk full of those but will spare you the rest
The reason not much to report is that I messed up I should have done Prompt Friday this week, and we do have a few great suggestions left for the member suggested ones, but could always use more.
On Monday Cia was here with the CSR Discussion Day:
Then, as always, the popular Ask An Author 2.0 was hear again brought to by Carlos
And here would be the weekly prompts if I did them
But Myr was on the ball all week, as usual, with the word of the day. You could say he dose them with alarcrity
And GA Students, shall we check on your grades last week? I'm going to have to decide if we shall start marking on curve or not .

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Hiya
What am I so happy about? I'm not really sure . Could it be because Sunday is/was international Bacon Day? I think that might be it  Sadly by they time most of you read this the day will be past, but as I like to say, never to late to catch up

I apologize to all the people who don't eat bacon  I will just enjoy your share for you!
Now that most of you are smelling, tasting, craving bacon, I shall leave this behind and move onto the Weekly Wrap Up!
On Monday, Timothy M dropped by with a great review from the Site Review Team. Please, if you have a review that you would like to do, reach out to @Timothy M.
Wednesday, Renee was back with the big reveal for the Author Guess Who. Just to prove how wrong I was again 😢
Then on Thursday, Renee visited the 2020 Fall Anthology which you have 2 1/2 months to get done, and submitted.
Now before you fillip a spitball my way  , shall we look at the Words of the Day provided by everyone's favourite GA Founder , Myr.
The last thing I will bring your attention to is the results of last weeks story goals.

Now if I had left 11 more chapter comments (Bad Steve, Bad) we would have had a perfect score!!! But that is close enough for everyone to be really, really, really proud of all your efforts!

It is Monday in most of the world, and what better way to start off the week of blogs than with another great one from the Review Team, this one from Timothy M.

    The Paladin
    David McLeod
    Reviewer: Timothy M.
    Status: Complete
    Word Count: 52,005
Some authors on GA create their own settings, either by mixing magic into our universe or by creating separate worlds. David McLeod does both, although most of his fantasy genre stories takes place in another universe which occasionally interacts with ours. The Paladin is one such story, which starts out in our world until the main characters are flung into another place with different rules of everyday life. I like the concept of a continuous struggle between good and evil, and how love / sex between males can be a source of magic. I often return to this group of favorite stories, many of which are intertwined with each other, and The Paladin together with Book of Heroes is a good place to start.
There are humans, elves and dwarves. There are friendship and hardship, long travels and intimate interludes (but most of the sex takes place ‘off screen’), heroism and kindness in small acts. Some aspects of the stories are fairly unusual and may take a little while to get used to, e.g. the longevity of people, the long youth phase of boys, and reincarnation. But to me the real draw of McLeod’s world is the importance of honesty, trust, knowledge, and the willingness to respect and help others. There is a strict code of honor and only evil people destroy nature or seek to accumulate possessions. I guess it can be called escapism and feel-good fantasy, but sometimes we need that, right?

    Weekly Wrap Up
Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening or Night to you.
First and foremost, thank you to Renee for jumping in to do the wrap up last week. At around 3 pm my time, i got a call and had to head out of town. I left a message for Renee and she came to my rescue. Not sure if I could even try to do a wrap up on my iPhone or iPad
So lets have a check in from everyone reading this blog. What time is it locally for you when you are looking at this? I know people are reading around the world and it would be neat to find out. But if you don't want to disclose the actual time, go with my intro; morning, afternoon, evening or night.
Now what happened this week at the GA Blog?
Monday, Cia brought us the August Classic Author Feature. It is nice to look back at the stories that early on helped build the site, like every new chapter/story/poem does today!

Following up on the Wednesday was the August Classic Author Excerpt.
    BULLETIN BULLETIN BULLETIN
Did I get your attention?  Well Renee had some exciting news for us! She announced in the blog that the final round for the 2021 Anthology Blog Theme voting is now open. It doesn't matter if you are a member of the Writers Circle, you are not a writer, you can click on my link here, and then click on Renee's link and it will take you there. Everyone's vote matters!

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Oops
I actually forgot that I'm back from holidays, well camping, and I told the gracious Renee I would do the wrap up. Well last night, a barley pop or two, I was watching TV and then crawled into bed. I totally forgot that last night was Saturday night
I referred to Renee as gracious, as she was kind enough to do the wrap up for me the past couple of weeks. So let's all give a shout out to her for stepping in!!
As mentioned, I was camping the past week and a bit. Had a great time in the Rockies with my 3 nephews ages 13, 11 and 8. They definitely kept me busy and on my toes all the time. I really don't understand how you parents do it all the time. Hats off to you too!
Well what happened around here last week you ask?
Monday, Cia dropped into bring us the August CSR Feature:
Then on the first Wednesday of August, Carlos came in on his motorbike, fast and furious, to bring us an all new Ask An Author 2.0 in a new format too.
Finishing up on Thursday, Renee gave us the links to go vote for next years Anthologies!! Just make sure to pop into the store for your free membership to the Writer's Circle to vote. This is for EVERYONE to join and vote. As long as you are a member, you can vote! You have until August 17th to participate!!
Now I wasn't around for most of the week, but Astraphobia is something that I do have  Check out a certain story to find out why

Now that the dog days of summer are coming to a close and even with the pandemic still around the world, a lot of areas are preparing for back to skool.  So let's see how our marks were for last week on the site  Instead, let's see how you all achieved a A- for the past 3 weeks  Good going everyone!!!

Weekly Wrap Up (Jul. 12 - Jul. 18)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
So, is it hot where you live? I've heard from my Eastern American and Canadian friends that the temperatures and humidity has been nearly unbearable. Then heard on the news that Death Valley, California hit 53.3°C/128°F  I guess I'm enjoying days around 25°C/77°F, but most evenings we have thunder storms rolling in. My city did have the 4th largest natural disaster in Canadian history in cost of damages due to hail a couple of weeks ago. I'm curious though, how is your summer going? Are you hiding out in your air conditioned home, naked as the day you were born?  Or are you at a beach socially distanced and taking in the sun and the water. Hopefully not naked as the day your were born
Now I don't want to forget our Southern Hemisphere friends. Let's hear from you if your are freezing your walnuts off  .
Well I could prattle on forever, but lets get to the wrap up this past week before you all turn from ruly to unruly in an instant.
Monday,  we kicked off the week right with a great review by the GA Review Team. This one from spikey582.
Wednesday Renee was back to kick off the 2020 Theme Selections for the Anthologies.
Friday was a first every Guest Prompts. We had a couple of great ones from two different members. See if one of them make you want to take one on!
Now, did you check out all the Words of the Day? If not, check em out.
Should we check in on where we were on our goals? It is so nice out, I'm curious how we did? Not bad, not bad.

    Guest Prompts 1 and 2

    By wildone,

    Prompts
    It's Friday, Friday
    Gonna get down on Friday

Oh, sorry about that  We are here today for the inaugural posting of our Weekly Prompts, but with a twist! For the next while it will be you the readers, authors and poets out there to make the prompt selections.

Prompt 1 - First Line    Brought to you by @Carlos Hazday
    "Ouch! That hurt, dingbat."

Prompt 2 - Technical    Brought to you by @Valkyrie
Write a short story (at least 500 words) in first person without using the pronoun “I”.

These are both very interesting. What do they motivate you to write about? If the motivation moves you, make sure you link your prompts in the Prompt Forum.
As Wayne always says, 'Until next time remember to read, write, comment, and like. Stay safe and well.'
Looking waaaaay  back we never had anyone post in Prompts 846 and 847, so if you want to be shouted at ( or a shout out ) make sure you git in this week!
Lastly, if you want to get in on the fun, make sure you send a PM to @Renee Stevens or @wildone to share with us your prompt ideas!

Weekly Wrap Up (Jul. 5 - Jul. 11)

    By wildone,

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Well I never  😮
Usually I try to work a word of the day into the Weekly Wrap Up of late. Generally I try to look in everyday to check out the word of the day and see how I can use it in the wrap up. This week has been a hectic week and I have not been diligent in reading them everyday. So we find ourselves on a Saturday night and I check to see what word I can use, and I find this entry!
I think this is the second time I have been used in an example of usage of the word, but wondering if there is more  that I may have missed. I think it is a time for Myr and me to parlay and find a cessfire before I am forced to take things further in my own hands .
So on to the rest of the week, Monday, Cia was by with the July CSR Feature.

Then on Tuesday, some really big news for the site that Graeme and the Author Promotion Team were happy to share with everyone!
On Thursday, we had Renee come in and lay out a collaborative road map that will see as being successful for Anthologies going forward.
Now with no actually Anthology round posted this week, we would bring you back to your regularly scheduled programming of weekly prompts. As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be switching up the prompts for a little while until Wayne is back. What this means is that we are turning them over to you, the members of GA, to submit prompt ideas to @Renee Stevens or @wildone that we will be starting to feature next Friday. So get them in!!!
Oh, let's go look back and check out the Words of the Day. I strongly suggest you ignore Wednesday

As a many CEO's of companies like to say, 'If you don't measure it, it won't be done'. But trust me, our CEO has never said or implied that .
