    Weekly Wrap Up
A belated happy birthday to all the folks up in Canada that had Canada Day on the 1st of July. And an early happy birthday to the folks down in the US of A that have Independence Day on Monday
Can't forget Burundi Independence Day on July 1st, Ghana Republic Day on July 1st, Territory Day in the British Virgin Islands also on the 1st, Philippine's Republic Day on the 4th, and Rwanda Liberation Day on the 4th. Now the question is, do you live in one of these countries other than Canada or the US?
I spent the past week up in Invermere at a cabin, on the lake, in the mountains and had great weather. I also had to do quite a bit of work. If anyone is handing out free back massages, I'll be at the front of the line .
It is actually hard to believe the 1/2 of 2022 is gone already. Just as a Public Service Announcement, you have less than 6 months to get my Christmas presents
Now on the serious journalism side of this blog. I like to think of us as being the W5 of the Gay Authors world.
Monday, Cia had the CSR Discussion Day for our featured story for June:
On Thursday, Valkyrie was in to set up for our Anniversary Anthology coming up! Sounds like there is a bit in already, so don't be like me and submit on the last day :
Friday, our Prompt Team was generating up a couple more Prompts for us all to get in the mood with... Writing that is, get your minds out of the gutter  :
As mentioned above, we are now through half the year, so that meant Myr provided us with the Q2 Earnings Reading Report:

Did you notice that we had 7 days in the past week? Did you also notice that we had 7 new Words of the Day also?
wahine, ennead, titanic, beholden, invigilate, flummox, rebarbative

Now that June is done, I'm so proud of you all. We had a great month of meeting our Reading Goals. I also included where we are year to date for 2022:

    Weekly Wrap Up
In North America we are a week a way from celebrating two of the three county's big parties. July 1st is Canada Day, and July 4th is Independence Day. After two years of shut downs, I imagine lots and lots of people are looking forward to letting loose for a day or two.
Myself, I'm heading up to a lake and relaxing and enjoying the first days of summer  What sucks is that I have to do some coverage for a boss that is away too, so I'll be logging on the laptop each day for hopefully only an hour to run some reports. Hopefully not too much. I guess I should see if I can get someone cover me next Saturday night, the day after Canada Day for the Wrap Up. Volunteers?
Oh, just thought I'd throw this in, it is 10:45 PM and still some light to the West. More or less dusk. I like the long summer days! Then the sun will be up again in 6 hours. Imagine living way up north and having 24 hour sunlight!
So before we get underway, once again a reminder to everyone to fill out Myr's quick poll! You'd be helping us to see what you would like going forward on the various GA Blogs on the site.
To start things off this week, I wanted to bring everyone's attention to our story goals. We are getting so close to completing all the story goals this month. Some goals have been blown past already. Let's put our effort into getting us over the finish line in a lot of different categories
Our week got started off with a great new Classic Author Feature. It was nice to see the number of comments that this great story brought out: Then on Wednesday, Cia came back with a Classic Author Excerpt on the same story:
On Thursday, if you missed the Grammar Guide, it was because we are on a summer hiatus
Friday, the Prompt Team came in and gave us two themes that should call out to your inner author, or at maybe it will call out to your stomach
Saturday was a little switch up in our normal programming week as well. Myr alerted us to the history and the upcoming Anthology. If you have always wondered about writing a story and also would anyone read it, here is your chance to try it out!

Lots of, well 7 , Words of the Day this week:
glitch, louche, sclaff, zibeline, jerkwater, nobby, palinode

Three years after Carlos concluded the CJ story, he returns with this new story which starts to fill in the gaps.
We follow CJ, Ozzie and Liebe as CJ takes a job at the US Embassy in Mexico, he's still fairly new to his job, as he only been graduated from Georgetown for just over a year.
His boss Northam immediately takes a dislike to CJ, because of his life outside the Embassy, where he his helpful in some setting up some major projects both in Mexico and USA. Of course the Ambassador takes an instant liking to CJ.
We meet a lot of familiar faces in this story and a few new characters. As with all CJ stories there are plenty of holidays, which are well described.
There is plenty of drama, happiness, sadness and a dramatic conclusion to this story. I look forward to the return of CJ, Owen, Liebe and family and friends.

    Weekly Wrap Up
I'm glancing out my window and in my neck of the woods the saying it correct: June showers bring July flowers  Seriously, we are out of the periodic snow now and after a dry first bit of the month, we are getting some rain.
Can you believe we are nearly at the summer solstice in North America? Tonight, dusk was around 10:15. I always like to be camping at this time of year, so you can have a fire going late into the night after a long day of fun! Not sure how many of our members fall in the category of Neo-Druids or Pagans and celebrate at Stonehenge, but is there anything that you like to do on the longest day of the year? Oh, if you our one of our many Southern Hemisphere peeps, what do you do for the shortest day of the year?
Now for our look back on the week!
Monday, Cia was in with an all new CSR feature for the month!
First Wednesday of the month, you know what that means...
Shall we look at the Grammar Guide this week? It's all about its apostrophes and more:
Friday, the Prompt Team got us thinking about the summer solstice, and how to turn that into a great little prompt response:
That just left us Saturday for Comicality to close the regular scheduled program week at the GA Blog:
Word, words, words, did you learn anything new this week? I did
anchorite, jubilate, donnybrook, taradiddles, flibbertigibbet, asseverate, flout
And our goals are a going as we close onto the middle of the month:

    Weekly Wrap Up
I read a joke in Chapter 5 of Dabegal's new story House of Frost the other day from @weinerdog:
Q: What do gay horses eat?
Okay, if you have stopped your uncontrollable laughter or maybe your uncontrollable groans, I want to mention that I think that falls in what people now refer to as 'Dad Jokes'. So here is the question for this week and what better time to do it than on Father's Day 2022, what is your best Dad Joke? Or maybe your worst ? Add them to the comments below and we will see what we will get
Everyone, if you could also check out the quick poll being done by Myr, it would be totally helpful and give us an idea of how things are going. Seriously, took under 20 seconds for me to answer!
Onto the Wrap up for the week at the GA News Blog. We had a bit of later start of the week, the Review Team came up with a great review of an author that is getting lots of love and features this month :
Thursday, Myr popped in and gave us a surprise announcement for the Grammar Guide :
Friday, the Prompt Team had some fun with June being recognized as the month of Pride. There was also an interesting technical prompt too:
Saturday we got to appreciate another great Writing Tip Article done up by Comicality:
So what about the words of the day? Any surprises in this list?
boniface, encroach, sic, impolitic, naval gazing, mucro, conclave
Last but not least of the new material, except for the stories, here is how we are doing on our goals with only 11 days left  We are doing great!!!

    Weekly Wrap Up
I was thinking of skipping the Wrap Up this weekend as I don't know if anyone is around ? I mean it is the May long weekend down in the US of A and it is the Queen's Jubilee Celebrations in the UK. BTW, do you Brits call every long weekend a bank holiday? Not sure how that works.
Here in Canada we had our long weekend the week before. Where in my neck of the woods it would be better to wait another week so we don't get snow  Yes, snow. Actually up until about 10-12 years ago, I used to make the trek with friends to the Rockies to go camping for the May long weekend, and we would bet on what day we would wake up in the morning to find everything covered in snow. I like to think that I learned for the last 10-12 years as I've not gone camping in them. Just took about 20 years to figure it out .
In the end it doesn't matter if you are around or not, we do show up to the do the GA Blogs where there is never a holiday on our calendar . So here is all the great contributions this week that our great contributors put forth.
Everyday of the week, Myr gets up before the crack of dawn and writes up and posts the Word of the Day. Here is what he brought us this week:
cahoot, eurytopic, juxtapose, putsch, tantra, deterge, snickersnee
Monday was Cia's day to bring an excellent interview with our CSR Feature Author for the month of May:
Thursday, Myr was by with a new Grammar Guide (no, not a Graeme Guide this week) and a great conversation after:
Friday our Prompt Team turned the tables on us. They wanted suggestions of prompts that the 3 member team could tackle themselves. If you missed it, never too late to go back and put in your suggestion!
Now if any of you are having a party in the near future, I guess Comicality is offering to cater your party!
Oh wait, someone just whispered in my ear that he is not catering your parties .
Well we finished up the month of May, so shall we see the goals we did achieve, and take a early look at June?

    Weekly Wrap Up
Not much to say this weekend, so we will go with the facts, just the facts ma'am  Well, I guess I can ask since in Canadia and other Commonwealth countries I do believe this is a long weekend, any plans? Kick off summer bbq's or parties? I know the US of A has theirs next weekend which is much smarter. One more week for things to warm up  So what are the plans next weekend for all my American friends?
Jumping right in, Monday was an announcement by Cia of our new Classic Author Feature:
Followed up promptly on Wednesday with the Classic Author Excerpt:
Thursday, Myr dropped by for his one day a week shift at GA   for another Grammar Guide:
On Friday, Cole Matthews from our Prompt Team, was the lucky fella to get to publish the milestone Prompt 50 of our new format:
Now did any of you wake up really quickly when you saw Comsie's Writing Blog today, thinking we all were going to get snacks?  Oh, so just me  Well he did do a great article on a new topic:
We are in the latter half of the month of May, shall we see where we are on the goals so far?

Now shall we also look at the 7 new words that Myr brought us in the Word of the Day?
erumpent, canorous, delectation, peripeteia, petulant, plumply, countermand

    Weekly Wrap Up
I think I'm going to start out today wrap up with a question for you all  Are you superstitious?
This past Friday was Friday the 13th  Did anything untoward happen to you? Were you worried something might happen to you? If, and there probably isn't a lot of us, you like sports do you have rituals or things you do on game day or right before the game? If you wear a shirt or something before an event and the outcome isn't positive, do you avoid that piece of clothing going forward.
My Calgary Flames (Yaaaaaay) lost the other night and tonight will be playing the deciding 7th game in their series with the Dallas Stars (Boooooo ) Thing is, I wore a jersey for game 5 that they won, and wore the same one for game 6 and lost, so if I was a superstitious person, what should I wear tonight?
Oh, btw on Friday the 13th, around 11:30 PM a black cat ran in front of me 🐈‍⬛  ... just saying . This  might be my last blog here
So let us all know our superstitions
Well enough of that, what happened here this week on the GA Blog? I'm sure you are all dying in suspense, so don't let me hold it back anymore!
Monday, it was my pleasure to put up a great Review from @chris191070 on behalf of our super Review Team:
It was kind of a quiet week after that until Myr took control of the blog and gave us a new Grammar Guide. With the title, you'd think he is a lawyer
Friday, @Aditus brought us another 2 prompts to get your creative juices flowing  He also did a couple of plugs for upcoming writing events here at GA:
Saturday, Comsie was here with an article about Genre Fatigue. It is an interesting read so if you didn't catch it on Friday, take a look now:
Oops, just about skipped over the word of the day and the status of this month's goals:
travail, precentor, raiment, remuneration, nuncupative, indurate, lamia

    Weekly Wrap Up
What a week it has been! We had May 1st, 4th and 5th all wrapped within the week! So before I get into N'Sync (as I was so rudely corrected about), May the Force, and Cinco De Mayo, I want to announce that spring has finally showed it's face where I live. The trees are budding, the flowers are popping up out of the ground, the bunnies are hopping around, the skunks are tooting . Also rain predicted for the rest of the week. Well, it is nice to finally catch up to most of you in the North America.
Oh, if you ever want to know what day it is, make sure you pop by the Last Post Wins topic where the mighty @TalonRider will tell you early in the morning (his time) what particular things are being celebrated during the day. If you so choose, you can make a post and steal the coveted  shiny, from whomever posted before you. Who knows, you might win the contest and be crowned by TalonRider as the winner...until the next post . Everyone is welcome to come in and take part in the thievery.
So enough of my shameless plug to the one game I play on the site and shall we look back on the week and see just went on?
On Monday, Cia kicked off the month with a brand new Can't Stop Reading Feature:
Wednesday was the day that @astone2292 popped in with another great AAA 3.0:
Thursday was back again to Myr who brought us another edition of the Grammar Guide:
And if that wasn't enough, for all you Author's out there, Myr gave a step by step tutorial with pictures  on how the new Stories system works here at GA. A big thank you to @Myr for continually improving our site for everyone . If you want a true testament of how easy this is to use... I figured it out on my first try
Friday our favourite penguin, @Valkyrie, showed up for the Prompt Team and gave us another 2 interesting prompts:
Saturday, @Comicality was in with another super article. Something that there is no shortage of here at the site in the many stories posted:

Being the first week of the month, I always like to see how we did in the past month, and where we are going in the new one and lastly where we are for the year:

But what would a wrap up be without the words of the day? Well, incomplete. Let's see what Myr gave us this week:
flotilla, groundling, kiln, chastise, catachresis, lissome, importunate

    Weekly Wrap Up
Well like the Backstreet Boys sung, It's Gonna be May  Seriously, listen to this song and tell me I'm wrong

In other news, I have had my spiel with Covid  Not an enjoyable week so far, but getting better. I really do feel sorry for everyone that has loss loved ones, had Covid themselves, or had it multiple times. Then some of you have fallen into the long haul group. I just hope that everyone continues to get through this and move on to bigger and better things
Looking back, we had a pretty productive week here at the GA News Blog. So here is you weekly recap.
The April Discussion Day was brought to you by the Letter C :
Thursday was an all new lesson in Grammar brought to us by the Letter M :
Friday, it was time to wrap up NaPoWriMo month, and this was brought you by the Letter V :
Finally on Saturday, the week was wrapped up with another article brought to us by the other Letter C :
The Words of the Day were brought to us by the Letter M :
apathy, vitrine, deliquesce, serendipity, fulminate, venal, piquant
Well shall we check into the goals that we hit for the end of the month? The good news is we are no longer looking for 2500 new chapters a month  I was wondering if I needed to start writing

In case you are from outside of North America and wondering about the 'brought to the letter...' , it is in reference to Sesame Street

    Weekly Wrap Up
I've been sitting here at the computer staring at it for about 10 minutes  Is this what writers block is to all you authors out there? Not like I'm creating anything that will be talked about, reviewed, commented on or anything like what you all put out there day after day. I'm sure the Writers Circle has a ton of topics on how to get over writers block and then I think of all the interviews Cia has done where she asks Authors what they do to tackle this hurdle or get in the mood .
Just is there one for writing blogs?
Well something happened here the other day that I guess it isn't strange anymore when you live in a big city. It is sad that you become accustomed too it and don't really have a strong reaction to it either. A guy was shot in the neck in a gangland execution style shooting about 100 m from my home . After the guy hit the ground the shooter(s) took off and the shot guy thought he could get in his truck and drive himself to the hospital  Not such a good idea, as he only made it half way there. Surprisingly he survived and is being 'uncooperative with the police' Wonder if @Krista will come to visit me now?
Well you look at that, I got over my writers block
Monday, Cia was in like a tsunami and flooded us with an all new Classic Author Feature. And if you knew this author, he was a bit like of a tsunami
That meant that Cia came back like a hurricane on Wednesday to give us the Classic Author Excerpt:
Not to forget our Pacific friends, Myr blew in like a typhoon on Thursday and showered us with a new Grammar Guide:
Friday, Aditus hailed down upon our wee heads 2 1/2 new prompts :
Finally on Saturday, the skies darkened, the wind picked up and I thought Armageddon had started  But no, something equally scary and frightening was addressed by Comsie:

Word of the Day you say:
plaudit, paean, pugilism, carp, gambol, cosmeticize, minutia

Goals are in the final week of the month of April, shall we push for a strong finish? Oh wait, we better get @Myr to check on this  4300 new chapters a month!!!

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Happy Easter!!!!

I couldn't find any Easter Bunnies in our membership (sorry if I missed you), so I asked another member to help us out with a selfie of how they look on Easter morning
Now before you go and find her droppings around your house  you know the ones, the little brown chocolate ones. Or maybe you are lucky enough to get a big one  No matter what you did or didn't get, shall we see what gifts the GA Blog gave us this week?
Tuesday was our time to get a review from the Super Review Team. Timothy M. was able to feature a story of one of the more popular authors here at the site:
Thursday Myr was in to educate us in getting back to the basics, Grammar:
To be a poet, or not to be a poet. That is the question put forth by our Prompt Team:
Plot, what plot? This is not a question you will ever ask yourself if you read and take some lessons from Comicality's Article this week:
How about all the Words of the Day. I have it on pretty good authority that Myr cuts his nightly beauty sleep in order to get up and get us a new word every day
chauffeur, shill, conflate, immutable, kindred, pontificate, velleity

We are half way through the month of April. Let's hope for a strong finish to the month for our goals.

    Weekly Wrap Up
Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening, or Good Night! No matter how you look at it, I'm late  A big thank you to Cia for stepping in last week to do the Wrap Up for me! I'm just going to just go with the facts today, not too much more .
On Monday, after working on Sunday, Cia introduced us to an all new Can't Stop Reading Feature:
Then on Wednesday, it was the fist one of the month! This meant Aaron dropped by with another great episode of Ask An Author:
Thursday was another day to get your Grammar on!
Friday, to kick off the weekend, the Prompt Team was in with a couple more of great prompts:
Comicality was in on Saturday (and 1/2 of Sunday) with a great new article:

On some of the Words of the Day, I wonder if Myr had me in mind?
ersatz, hoity-toity, panacea, dossier, fawn, tragus, lachrymose

Last week Cia was kind enough to show us all our quarterly achievements of goals, so here is how we did on the first week of April:

    Weekly Wrap Up
So what can I do to make the Weekly Wrap Up different this week?  I could ask someone else to do it  Or, I can throw everything in the blender and see what it comes out as
So no usual Sun to Mon this week and in order, lets see what happens. Also, tonight I will be watching one of the greatest rivalries in sports, not basketball , not baseball not football (either kind) , but the coolest sport on earth, ice hockey The rivalry is between the Edmonton Oilers *spit* and the Calgary Flames *Yay!!!*. Edmonton is trying to catch Calgary in the standings and the Battle of Alberta is usually a great matchup.
With that said, I'm going to time release the blog tonight, just that means any stories posted between 7 PM and 12 AM EST Sat night into Sun morning, won't be in the wrap up. I'll try to get in, in the morning to update any I miss tonight.
    So without further ado...
Friday, our Prompt Team enlisted the help of @AC Benus to get us all in the mood for poetry for NaPoWriMo month. Check it out:
Now here is Myr's Words of the Day in no particular order too
apotheosis, volplane, chatelaine, myriad, besot, triptych, poetaster
Thursday was an all new Grammar Guide done up by Myr:
Saturday, Comicality was in with a interesting blog name and an article with it:

    Weekly Wrap Up
Well it appears that there is a lot of US Senators that seem to partake in GA Authors, and read the Weekly Wrap Up  Why you ask? After last weeks highly controversial wrap up where I asked everyone's opinion of Daylight Savings and Standard Time, it appears the US Senate were closely watching the discussion and decided to vote for year round Day Light Savings Time  The majority here I believe wanted to scrap it, and that is what they did. Cia won't be happy as the better time is to stay on Standard, where as Daylight will make an earlier sun in the winter . And we all should know how much she hates the sun.
Before we get anywhere close to a political discussion (hint, hint, don't take it there ), let us get onto the wrap up of all that went on here at GA this past week.
Monday, bloody Monday... The Review Team took over the blog for the day and gave us a great new review to entice us to read. Have you started?
Thursday was an all new Grammar Guide. Check it out to get up to date on interjections:
Friday Cole from the Prompt Team expressed a feeling I'm sure most of us in the Northern Hemisphere are wishing. Now take that feeling and try out the prompts:
On Saturday, Comicality took on a word that makes most of us groan:
What did Myr share with us this week in the word of the day?
ne plus ultra, layman, senescence, wassail, clover, primogeniture, rigmarole

We are sneaking closer and closer to the end of the month, so what is happening for our goals?

    Spirit Wolves

Kbois has successfully tackled the shifter world and brought us her variation, which introduces us to Kappa and Lambda wolves.
What happens when you take six wolves, messed-up families, corrupt council members and just a few bad guys for good measure. Then throw into the mix, Sebastian, Reilly, Ben, Zev, Kellan and Hunters, you have this group of wolves called The Sentinels.
Then mix in love, treachery and betrayal and you have the beginnings of one fantastic adventure, where they must deal with missing pups, amongst other surprises that will make you laugh, cry, sad and angry.
Of course as with all lycan stories you can throw some hot steamy sex into the mix and as with all Kbois stories plenty of cliffhangers.
As MrsGnomie says, you can feel all the emotions in this story.

    Weekly Wrap Up
First off, a PSA. If you live in one of the areas of the globe that has daylight savings time and you spring your clocks forward, but forgot to last night...
    YOU'RE LATE
Well now that is out of the way, I wonder how many tens of you will be awake enough to read this week's riveting edition of the GA Weekly Wrap Up I know I'm going back to bed right after I get up  I've also thrown in a little poll to gauge everyone's feelings towards this biannual occurrence.
For those that did stay awake this long, here is what happened the past week here at the GA Blog.
Monday, Cia introduced us to the March Can't Stop Reading Story (CSR) for all of us to dive into.
On Thursday, Myr was back with another wild and crazy Grammar Guide:
If that is too confusing, this is how I learned what conjunctions were  Looks like others learned the same way
On Friday, the Prompt Team suggested we all draw a green beer and sit back and give a couple of new entries a go:
Saturday, Comicality checked in with a new Writing Article:
Here is a wrap up of this week's Words of the Day:
virtuoso, sententious, exigent, diurnal, litmus test, conundrum, enjoin
Ack, we are a 1/3 of the way through March! Where has it gone?  How are we doing on goals?

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Well howdy ho good neighbours
So let me start off to say that all the blogs and comments from some of the Northern Hemisphere peeps stating that spring is starting to show up or it's coming... STOP  In my neck of the woods March and April I believe are our heaviest snowfall months of the years. Get a huge dump, melts off a few days later, huge dump, melts off a few days later, repeat. I sure we sell more windshield (windscreen  ) washer fluid than most places in the next two months.
In reality, I'm happy for those that are seeing the signs of spring and are poetic about the changing of the seasons . Heck, I might be the same way in a few months
Now to the really important stuff, the wrap up of the past week here at the GA New Blog.
Monday was the day that Cia had the CSR Discussion Day:
Wednesday was another great addition of AAA 3.0. Did you check out the story and author for this month?
On Thursday, Myr proposed to me ! Oh wait, he discussed prepositions in the Grammar Guide. Hey, it was early when I read it
On Friday, Aditus was in for the Prompt Team and suggested tackling a round robin. Are you going to partake?
Saturday, the Article from Comicality was interesting. First off, I had never heard the word he was discussing  and second, it was a really interesting article of discussing something that I think a lot of authors may fall into. Maybe Myr can work it into the Word of the Day
Did you live up to your commitment to use the Word of the Day each day? Oh, you never made a commitment?
susurration, recumbent, fraught, doppelgänger, frieze, dragon's teeth, tabula rasa
Well we finished off February and onto March now for the story goals. Here is where we finished for February.

Before Myr and the gang kick me off the Weekly Wrap Up, I better put on my serious hat and get to actually wrapping something up

Comicality was here on Saturday with an all new article which explains Story Scope, not to be confused with plot

With the end of February nigh, shall we see where we will more or less be after Monday night?

Myr was kind enough to visit the site each and every day to give us all a Word of the Day! (pssst, don't read impromptu, or it will make a liar out of me  )

    Weekly Wrap Up
    Well Howdy
I'm in a great mood today! Why? In most provinces of Canada we have a stat holiday on Monday that is called in most places, Family Day  I know my American cousins to the south can't believe how many stat holidays that we have up here. I don't think so  So here is my rundown of stat holidays in Alberta which is the province I live in.
    New Year's Day - January 1st
Family Day - 3rd Monday of February
    Good Friday - changes yearly
Easter Sunday (not an actual stat day, but most government and federally regulated industries observe. Most private employers, nope)
Victoria Day (May Long Weekend) - 3rd Monday of May
St. Jean Baptist Day (Quebec only)
    Canada Day - July 1st
Civic Long Weekend (August Long Weekend) - 1st Monday of August
Labour Day (spelled correctly  ) - 1st Monday of August
Thanksgiving Day -  2nd Monday of August
    Remembrance Day - November 11th
    Christmas Day - December 25th
    Boxing Day - December 26th
So 11 in 12 months, not that excessive
So what about where you live, are you holidaying this long weekend too?
Let's now take a look back on what happened the past week in the blog.
Monday, our Review Team shared a review on all the stories of the 2016 Secret Admirer contest. Even though it is no longer Valentines Day, these are some good stories to read. Hmmmm, Valentines Day 🤔 maybe I'll propose a new stat holiday .
We didn't have another scheduled event until Myr came in on Thursday to take us into the end of the week blogs. He had a all new Grammar Guide. So what is your POV on stat holidays
Valkyrie from the Prompt Team popped in on Friday with a couple of new prompts:
Last but definitely not least, Comicality came in and did an Article on Soundtracks 🎼
Now it is that time of the Weekly Wrap Up to look at the neat, nifty and new Words of the Day. I put unsure faces by the words that I didn't know this week. How did you do?
sockdolager, amatory , Potemkin village , hobgoblin , censure, anathema , rectitude
We have just over 1 week to go for our February Goals. Are we going to make it?

In 2016, thirteen stories written for the Secret Admirer Contest posted in time for Valentine’s Day. The stories were very different; some made readers cry and others made them laugh. One year later, a story review was posted for Valentine's Day to remind readers of all those wonderful tales. Since this month's blog review falls on Valentine's Day itself, we decided to repeat the Special Review.
But in addition, we would like to ask you to tell us which love story on GA is your favorite and why. Let us know in the comments below, so we can compile a list of romantic stories for everyone to enjoy tonight.
    Valentine’s Day 2016
    Secret Admirer Contest   Cupid Central
    by Aditus
    Reviewer: Timothy M.
    Word count: 3,961
Of all the wonderful Secret Admirer Contest stories last year, this one was probably the most light-hearted and fun. Did you know Cupids have arrows of different colors depending on the situation? Or that missing a shot can have dire consequences, not only for the humans involved, but also the hapless Cupid who bungled the job. The management at Cupid Central assigns punishment for tardiness as well as sloppy jobs, but also rewards good work. If you want to know how, you’ll need to read the story.
I was chuckling most of the time, and I’ve asked Aditus to lend me a couple of his angels to help out in my A.I. story. But most of all, I hope we’ll get more Cupid Central stories, because the concept is delightful, the dialogue is funny, and the characters are vividly portrayed.
    Jager
    by Cole Matthews
    Reviewer: Aditus
    Word Count: 3,332
This is the story of Adam and Glenn, ‘the dynamic duo, in love and in charge for more than forty years, always having each other’s back.’
They share a life of genuine affection and care: from the beginning, when it took great courage to be together as gay men, to overcoming a severe loss, raising their son and having a grandchild. Now that old age has finally caught up with them and joints are stiff, and hips hurt, Glenn fears Adam is slowly losing his sanity. Why else would he talk to people who aren’t there or suddenly drag Jager, the old rocking horse Glenn’s grandparents gave him when he was a kid, from the garage into the house?
They are only ‘two old queens on their last leg in the journey of life. No one is there. They only have each other.’ Right? So, what is Adam doing?
If I had to associate one word with Jager, it would be trust─trust to follow through with the words they might have had promised to each other in the past: to have and to hold/from this day forward/for better, for worse/for richer, for poorer/in sickness and in health/to love and to cherish/till death do us part.
Jager won first place in the Secret Admirer Contest for a reason. Make sure you have tissues ready. And then there is this brilliant twist Cole invented, but you’ll have to read it for yourself to find out what it is.
    Lupercalia
    by Puppilull
    Reviewer: Cia
    Word Count: 7,169
Valentine’s Day usually makes you think of love, sweets, and romantic nights… but Puppilull’s story, Lupercalia, is set in the most unlikely of places for this: a prison. An ancient prison in Rome, actually. The story revolves around a tortured prisoner sentenced to die by the emperor in the annual Lupercalia celebrations. Varius is warned about him, but he can’t see why the prisoner might be a danger to him or any of the other guards.
But as the days leading up to the Lupercalia pass by, Varius finds out more about him, and his reason for being imprisoned, than he likes to know about those condemned to die. Varius questions the dictates of his life and the strictures put upon him as a soldier of the Roman empire, and it’s nearly impossible to accept the prisoner's fate, even though he remains steadfast in the convictions that led to his death sentence. Love and compassion should never be forbidden.
Their tragic romance might be doomed, but don’t let that keep you from reading Puppilull’s tribute to love in all its bittersweet glory. There’s always a chance… if you’re brave enough to face the potential pain in pursuit of love.
    Making Sense of Secret Gifts
    by Timothy M
    Reviewer: LitLover
    Word Count: 12,488
Timothy M’s submission to the Secret Admirer contest was a story about a very private man, named Colin, who starts receiving some very public attention, in the form of gifts left on his desk by a secret admirer. The gifts are thoughtful, and some, such as a carving of his cat, give the impression the benefactor knows Colin fairly well.
Colin is a caring, if lonely, man who has been hurt in his past. In order to alleviate some of his loneliness he gives up his weekends to volunteer in a group home. Colin’s partner in crime is Sol, his sneaky cat, who can coax a smile out of the most sullen teenager. The more I read about Colin the more fiercely I found myself hoping he would find someone to care about him as much as he cares for others.
This sweet, but introverted man is unsure of what to make of the mysterious packages. A part of him is flattered someone would put so much thought and effort into these gifts, but his discomfort is almost palpable when he starts to become the center of attention in the office. It takes him a great deal of courage to leave a message for his admirer, and ultimately decide to meet him/her in person.
I’m not going to give away the identity of the secret admirer because it would spoil the fun of reading the story, and trying to puzzle out the mystery for yourself. All I can tell you is you will be more than satisfied with the answer.
    Nobody’s Valentine
    by Thorn Wilde
    Reviewer: Puppilull
    Word Count: 4,664
So it’s that time of year again. Hearts everywhere and everyone acting so lovey-dovey it’s making the air turn pink. Or red. But what if your reality doesn’t fit in? What if your life has taken a completely unforeseen turn, leaving you feeling disappointed, lonely and perhaps even despairing?
A story of a Secret Admirer that deals with these less written about sides to this thing we call love can be such a relief. If that story is friggin’ well written as well, things are looking up. Thorn Wilde has provided us with a story of Mike who is fighting an uneven battle to get over the boyfriend who dumped him. When that infamous date rolls around, he finds the sadness flares up and seeks ways to deal with it. One remedy turns out to be the one to lead him on his way. But where will it take him?
This is a truly bittersweet story telling us life isn’t always a bed of roses. I think it’s important to not lose sight of that. It’s actually somehow comforting to know bad stuff will happen, but you will be OK. A bit scarred perhaps, but OK.
    Sunshine
    by AC Benus
    Reviewer: Timothy M.
    Word count: 9,480
Writing a Valentine’s Day story filled with sadness, loss, longing and even anger, and naming it Sunshine, is the kind of chutzpah few people can get away with. But AC Benus has the unique ability to pluck at our heartstrings and fill our guts with dread, holding the story on the precipice of anticipation, yet letting us hope for a miracle.
Will the two characters make the right choice? Will their innate goodness break through like a ray of sunshine? Will it become a Valentine’s Day to remember for the triumph of love and kindness or for the loss of innocence and trust? Go read the story, and afterwards go hug someone you care about and tell them they matter.
    The Cupid Complex
    by Valkyrie
    Reviewer: spike382
    Word Count: 5,127
In this little treat from last year’s Secret Admirer Contest, Valkyrie takes us through one year in the life of Gabriel as he searches for that special someone. He doesn't always have the best of luck in his search, but he is a romantic at heart with a penchant for holiday decorating.
A Valentine’s Day misstep leads to a humiliating situation, and some accompanying depression that he battles throughout his journey for the relationship his heart desires. Dealing with obvious hurt, Gabriel plays the “hook-up” game, hesitant to really put himself out there. As the year progresses, some new friendships are forged, but everything in relationship territory remains starkly “casual.”
Yet, as the next Valentine’s Day approaches, Gabriel discovers gifts and notes being left on his doorstep. Whose admiration has Gabriel drawn? Will Cupid’s arrow strike after all?
This was the kind of story that left me smiling in one instant, and frowning and frustrated the next. Valkyrie packs quite a lot into such a short tale. I found myself feeling Gabriel’s sorrow and rooting for him to finally be with someone he truly deserves. Join Gabriel through this fun little tale, as he realizes life is full of surprises, which are often much closer than we think.

Imagine driving past the scene of a car accident and noticing one of the drivers slumped over the steering wheel. What would you do? There was already rubbernecking on the road, so you know someone must have called 911. Would you just drive on by, assuming the driver would be taken care of? Or would you stop and try to get him out of the car? What if you had the day off from work because you lied and told your boss you were home sick? What if, by helping this person, you were ‘found out’ and you were fired because you lied to your boss about being sick?
Our protagonist James has a lot on his mind as he ponders these questions. Of course being morally sound, he saves the driver’s life and pulls him out of the car before the big chunk of metal explodes into a ball of flames. On the news, the flames in the background make him look like a woman, so he thinks he’s pretty much off the hook of being found out.
I found this fast-paced story captivating, and I was riveted from the first line. It didn’t hurt that the characters were very relatable also. What I liked best about it, however, were the beautiful words jfalcon used toward the end of the story to describe a moment of passion.
I would highly recommend reading The Lady in the Flames if you haven’t already, and if you have, why not pick it up again and enjoy it a second time around?

These are by no means all of the stories from the Secret Admirer Contest; there are more wonderful stories for you to take a look at on the contest page.

    Weekly Wrap Up
💝💞🥰😻 Happy Valentines Day Eve 💜❤️💛🫀
    Well enough of that
Now I'm curious, is there a story that you read here at GA, or maybe not, that is nothing less than an amazing love story? Is there a story that you have written that is your idea of being one of the greats?
I know we all have been challenged as authors and poets to try a different genre when writing. So how about we challenge our readers here on the site to try a genre of love stories. Just need a list started to get us all going. Long, short, poem, prose. Let's get out and spread some love this year for Valentines Day. I'm sure there is one or two love stories on site
Now it is time to look back on the past week when it comes to the GA News Blog.
Before I forget, and I know you are getting reminders and there is lots of announcements, but we would really like to have @astone2292 have a list of stories to keep up the with the AAA feature. Can we have it so he is so full of stories and 3 questions that they will outlast my lifespan ? It is so easy, let's take my favourite literary work, Jack and Jill. After reading it, send in 3 questions for @astone2292 to ask the author. Now I'm not sure who wrote that classic, so let's restrict it to GA stories and authors. What was Jack's motivation to actually go up the hill with Jill? Why would they have to go up a hill to fetch a pail of water, wouldn't the water be down in the valley? What happened to Jack to cause him to fall and break his crown, and did Jill have anything to do with it  ? Okay, that is five questions, but you get the idea   Leave it to Aaron to find the author and get your answers. You will remain totally anonymous.
Now on Monday, Cia brought us a brand new CSR Feature for the next month:
Then we took a mini break until Thursday when Myr brought us a Grammar Guide. It was on verb tenses. Myself, I'm learning French so my mind is in overload with verb tenses, maybe I will stick to English for now:
Friday the Prompt Team turned the reigns over to Aditus who went mad, mad I say! Okay, maybe not
Finally on Saturday, Comicality gave us some hints on getting ready for your next masterpiece here on GA:
So how are we doing on our goals half way through February? We only have 28 days this month, so we all better double down

How about all the whacky and wild Words of the Day?
vendetta, bioturbation, shenanigan, equanimity, slough, superfluity, verbiage

    Weekly Wrap Up
Wow, what a week it has been for me
First I was back to work. I did not take up the offers of my peers to get a shotgun in my face or get pushed over Niagara Falls  Actually I had a pretty good week doing nothing  I'm all for that  So this week I did all the things that I put off all week last week: laundry, bills, cleaning, trying to pick out new flooring. Whew, you're lucky I'm not in bed catching up on my sleep since I'm so tired  Or maybe you wish I was in bed
First week of the month also means a busier week here at the GA News Blog. Shall we dive in right away to see what happened all week, and if you missed anything you can read it here? I do that sometimes with the Word of the Day, but the whole week is here at a click of a button.
Speaking of which, why don't we look at the Words of the Day:
evergreen, avatar, emancipation, conciliatory, calumny, admonish, syllepsis
On Monday, there was a really good CSR Discussion Day. Even if you didn't get around to reading the story, this blog might trigger that feeling to read it now:
Something about this month's Ask an Author caught my attention, and I've started reading it. You should give it a try
Thursday was the return of our ever increasing blog, Grammar Guide:
Friday, whew, like what we've had isn't enough, but our Prompt Team was back diligently to give us another couple of prompts. Is that love in the air?
Saturday ended the full slate this week with another great article by Comicality:
How did we make out on last month's goals?
