    Chapter 15

Though they may be friends, if the Sheriff is truly a law enforcer, he would know how to separate personal feelings from duty I should hope!

    The workshop

I agree with @Gary L: this chapter was very full of descriptions and insights! It was a wonderful exposition of the growth of Neil, the developing relationship between Alex and Neil, and a trip through the town! Wonderful writing, as usual!

    Chapter 11

And why couldn't Amy have been the initiator of the fire? She may not have set it personally (or maybe she did!), but she's angry enough at Colt to react inappropriately. Yes, it could be George or Brett - but would this be too easy and "logical"?

    Chapter 10

Teen drama is better than the "soap operas" on tv! Now we'll see how much of a "friend" she will be to Noah and Colt. Or will it be the three witches stirring up a brew of nastiness?

    Chapter 9

I can't see Amy giving up easily. There was speculation from others that thought she might become an ally, but I don't see her acting as a beard at all. Guess we'll just have to wait and see! And if Colt does claim Noah publicly, what will The Principal say?

    Chapter 7

I love the building anxiety and drama! Colt discovering himself even when getting serviced by Amy. Noah is a mystery slowly unwrapping.

    Chapter 6

Noah's in "quarantine" ... probably healing from a beating. Will Colt be able to help? Such a group of "friends"! I don't trust any of them, including Amy at the moment. I,too, wonder if she's trying to make Brett jealous, or if she's really allowing her real self to be shown around Colt.

    Chapter 5

Small town and old boys' network has to be exposed! I hope it happens! Victims of abuse feel totally powerless and only do what is necessary to survive until all hope is lost. Let's hope it doesn't come to this!
  9. Even with all the Charlie drama, Neil and Alex have weathered the storm and, I believe, come out stronger as evidenced by the rigorous activity at the end!

    Chapter 2

You've created some really disgusting people: The Principal, The Sheriff and his son, Rylee... And I think I have met versions of them throughout my life!

    Chapter 1

As a retired school counselor, I am surprised that Colt has been out of school for a semester for being expelled. Most school districts have alternative schools, including online programs, so that students have the opportunity not to fall behind. But this is your story and this will have another purpose: meeting and becoming close with Noah! I'm looking forward to the rest of the story.

    Chapter 4

I know there are those who reject anything to do with religion, seeing it as only the fire and brimstone rigid type. Yet, there is another lens if viewed through the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 25. A certain politician in Texas uses this as the basis for his actions and it does provide a much more positive view of the purpose of human life. That said, Luke exemplifies very well the type of life advocated in that passage of the bible: he reaches out to Matt, Levi and Julie in this time of need with compassion and selflessness. Again, very powerful writing!

    Chapter 3

Powerfully written with both clarity and strong emotions. The issues have been elucidated quite well.

    Open mic night

Neil is growing slowly and confidently into a real partner. The shell continues to crack! Love it! Alex also is stretching beyond his comfort zone.
  15. What a train of thought story! I did find it amusing!
  16. Neil has led a rather narrow life, perhaps by belief of his mother's expectations, or simply so introvertish that he had difficulty breaking through his imposed barriers until Alex proved a safe way to do so. He's making progress of coming out of his shell, but how far is yet to be seen. He made great strides forward in this chapter.

    Chapter 1

Time-wise,it does appear to be before Matt takes over the store, though I'm open to another explanation. Matt's parents both were disrespectful in how they have behaved toward Matt. Great start in the drama department, but also enough intrigue to keep us reading!
  18. I do agree that the behavior, especially of Neil, is childish, but not unexpected in that he has always lived at home and has not experienced life beyond work and home. He's still a teenager emotionally. Alex is sensitive enough that he doesn't want to hurt Neil. I would disagree that going to Gar's might have alerted him to anything more than the two were good friends. Neal is projecting his own fears and insecurities on everyone else! I am enjoying this story - especially the music references!
  19. A giant step back...but will it mean a giant step forward? Growth often is preceded by recess into the comfortable. Unless Neil can step up, this relationship will never be more than fwb!
  20. Mortality does bring relationships into focus. Evan may or may not be long for this world, but his influence in Alex's life will be a source of positivity it seems.
  21. I, too, agree with @Gary L: the pacing is perfect. It is allowing Neil to progress at his own speed in a comfortable environment created by Alex. They both are regular working people honing their crafts and becoming strong friends first. Great writing!
  22. A new chapter is always a joy to see! There are still loose ends that need to be resolved - especially Don and his shenanigans! The high school angst is so vividly presented. Will Rory forgive and reactivate the friendship with Robbie? Will Robbie continue to evolve and mature, making wise decisions? This story is very compelling. Thanks for continuing and sharing, @Dodger.
  23. Lila is similar to Dawn's personality in Not Just Another Summer: they both are wonderful sounding boards - Dawn to Vince and Lila to Alex. I truly love the pace of the relationship between Alex and Neil.

    Moving Forward

Having started reading this wonderfully written story late, I was able to binge on it as time permitted over the past three days. Wonderful characters and fascinating premise. I felt sorry for the young man who killed Russell. He appears to be a possible sociopath. Prison will not rehabilitate him if he is indeed sociopathic. I would like to believe intense therapy could help turn him around, but that is another story in itself. Thanks for this story - and thanks for not jumping from the bridge. You are living proof that things do get better!
  25. I do love the progression of the relationship with Neil. Alex is apparently oblivious to any intentions so far.
