  1. First, I thought the Social Worker could have handled the reporting of the the comments of his relatives in a more professional manner: "Homophobic remarks and aspersions were said in front of the judge which resulted in the denial of their claims..." Secondly, Donovan probably needed a fight, but Darren's comments were, indeed, juvenile (Hmm...I guess he really is just a kid...).
  2. Breaking away from strong cultural expectations and 'norms' is difficult but also so freeing! Jamal is realizing he is worthwhile and it is ok to be himself! Lovely chapter!
  3. I will truly miss this story as it ends. So well-written and so relatable! At least Liam is allowing the truth to be spoken and Adrian does not feel threatened hearing about Kevin and Liam's life together. Liam has learned he can make room for new relationship and actually keep on living!
  4. A very warm memory indeed. Hindsight tells us why Alexander kept the photo as screensaver, but it serves as a very freeing moment for Lyn. Beautiful writing!
  5. At first, I thought there was a bigger age difference, which would have been a major problem, but that got clarified. I guess Wayne has figured what he really desires!
  6. I'm a mixture of sad and wow! His parents should have intervened with his brothers. So many things that could have been done and said to support him and not, in essence, force him into being the "high school male slut". There are many "Matt's" out there, unfortunately.

    The New Bag Boy

Where was Ted or Brian when I was their ages? Good story!
  8. You have done this before, used an adjective with a positive connotation to accentuate an adjective with a negative connotation. Sorry, @Summerabbacat, but the language teacher in me has to make a minor correction: remarkably is an adverb used to qualify the adjective. Minor point, to be sure....but just wanted to be accurate. (Can you see the red pen marks when I was grading papers, lol? Such a lovely vacation - learning, exercising via swimming, hiking, exploring. Thanks for providing me a vicarious respite, @Robert Hugill. As for accommodation, I still hope Grandfather is able to assist!

    Defective Heart

A happy/sad chapter: Brad finally speaks honestly even with his humor present. Lyn does soften and really listens. Good chapter!
  11. There are pockets of this type of discrimination still present everywhere, unfortunately. We believe in the Constitution, they will say, but as it applies to White folk - no one else! We're seeing that at a national level, unfortunately, at this time in the U.S.
  12. Such powerful writing! I felt the emotions of both in the words spoken and actions described. Liam's fear is his prison. It also is the key to moving forward -facing that fear and breaking loose of its bonds!
  13. Might Graham know what the artifact really is or might actually be harboring it? He is definitely dodgy. He and Daphne are truly "rich" boors!. I do hope the detective get more active in their pursuit of Thomas Englert and possibly find the link to Graham!
  14. Rory may well be pansexual, if I am using that term correctly: he may love a person regardless of the gender. Hopefully, we'll find out! Robbie is his own harshest critic in this chapter. Yes, he took a lifesaving course, but working on dummies and a real life situation is markedly different. He did a good job and helped save Mr. Lube's life! Don is simply and disgustingly Don! Keep up the postings, @Dodger.
  15. A wonderful "break" in the facade that Alexander has been keeping. Knowing what we do know about his situation and requirements from his parents, it is good that this is being done, in essence, quietly.
  16. I'm still amazed at how mature this group of friends is, Michael and Stephen especially. It is heartwarming to see such an accepting and supporting group of people, and that extends to the parents! Of course, the closed-minded group will always be present, supported by so-called religious beliefs.
  17. First off, when there is a basis in friendship, a relationship can grow and be strong. Liam has been in a self-imposed emotional prison for far too long and it is painful to break through it. He has also realized that he isn't replacing Kevin but rather creating a new space for Adrian. Excellent writing!
  18. What a swing of emotions: Talking about expectations in relationships (both Charlie and Tom must have had solid parental relationships) but realizing their lives were different from their parents. Then, to top off these reflections, enter Tom Englert. I hope the detectives are close enough to take care of him! Enjoyable reading for sure!
  19. Darren is off to a good start. I'm worried that he might have a crash when the grief of the loss of his parents and starting a whole new life hits. I hope not, but could happen!
  20. I agree with @drsawzall: while I hold no judgment against others who indulge in tattoos and piercings, I cannot bring myself to do either. I've seen true pieces of art done in tattoos and people who look like walking paint splatters and dart boards! Ok...maybe I am being judgmental! Nonetheless, that said, I do truly respect the rights of others to treat their bodies as they wish. This vacation is proving quite interesting!
  21. It sounds as though Liam is starting to open up/thaw a bit. This may well be the beginning of allowing himself to love once again!
  22. They are both doing a relationship properly this time: taking time to get to know each other and build a friendship that is comfortable, respectful, and a place to grow comfortably. Sex, then, is more than just a physical activity. Well done!
  23. And here I think I am the old stick in the mud enjoying "single" life - Liam has me beat by miles! Of course, the difference is, he has Adrian trying to crack his self-imposed walls. I hope Adrian can do it soon!
  24. And yet, we know why this happened. Years later, and another major confrontation has finally laid bare what really was meant in Brad's room. The question remains: If Alexander did not tell Brad about Lyn's mother, how did he find out? How did he find out about the "scholarship" Lyn had?

    Chapter 21

A very warm, supportive and loving chapter which portends wonderful things moving forward. The "Adam" scene has brought acceptance and the ability to live their lives with no guilt or regrets.
