OK, it's been up for a day and a half now, so I'm hoping it's ok to actually get into detialed chapter discussions? (IF not, please feel free to delete this post). I really enjoyed the chapter. I liked the way it flowed, and really gave substance to Davey's new reality. It's clear it's even worse for him, this time around, due to the much younger age. He has to try even harder not to talk like an adult. I'm also wondering what is going on with the headaches? My predictions; it's either a result of the time travel problem that sent him so far back, or a result of his new body having a smaller, less developed brain (due to age). Either way, I predict this will play a major role eventually. I'm very curious to see what happens regarding the money, and the Plans Davey clearly already has for future actions. Davey's father is definitely one of the most complicated and contradictory literary characters I've ever seen. He varied greatly from timeline to timeline, and certainly has a great deal to dislike about him, but as we saw just a couple of chapters ago, eventually has some very redeeming characteristics too, if properly cultivated. Basically, he's very much like plenty of people I've known in real life. I don't mean to slight any of Dan's other characters, but I feel his father is one of the best he's written.

What a rollercoaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow! I think I switched from thinking "Rory's going" to "Rory's staying" a dozen times! And Grandma Alice utterly shocked me with her speech on the plane! I also think a heck of a lot more of Seth now than I did. However, I'd still like to see Luke end up with somebody (anybody nice!). I was dreading the end of the chapter right from word one, because of all the "ending at chapter 35" speculation. (I think we can now fairly safely say that it isn't? ) The actual ending was one doozy of a cliffhanger, and totally unexpected! Poor Eddy! Thanks, Dom for an especially great chapter, a real rollercoaster ride!!

Interesting that DD chapter 35 has no less then two very active threads, considering it isn't even out yet!

Muahahahaha!! I've converted another one to the dark side! Does this make me one of Dan's Familiars? I agree with Dan about the bonus points for spotting the Nietzsche influence. I was guessing Niccolo Machiavelli, but I guess I was wrong. Hmmmm... I'm wondering if WT has a slightly darker atmosphere that Dom's past stories, and just WHO might be responsible... All jokes aside, though, WT does have some interesting differences. I've heard quite a few refer to Nelson as a "bad boy" type, and frankly, I just don't see it? OK, they drink, but they have a designated driver. Nelson didn't even join Caleb for some weed. I think Nelson is a great character, and very outgoing (in many ways!) but a bad boy? I just don't see it. Not even close.

Would you be willing to tell *after* it's posted? Perhaps mention in this thread, after posting it, "The last half of chapter xx of story xxxx that I just posted is what we were talking about" And, if not, may I take this opportunity to ask Robert an entirely unrelated and completely innocent question: Just how much, exactly, do you charge to extract information from Dan, and is he ticklish? Hmmmm... Do I sense the beginnings of a Tim-the-slut fan club here? Well, I wanna join too!

Well, I admit it.. he got me... I went and looked. Which, is rather sad, really, as I'd looked about a minute before when I saw this thread title. :wacko: I guess I'm greedy... We have already had a new chapter of Dan's DOR today, and here I am prowling around for a Dom fix already. Hmmmm, too bad we don't have a smiley for "embarrassed".

Is that ever true!!! Actually, i sometimes wonder if Dom reads out predictions, and alters things so we are all wrong, all the time. There is large discussion going on in the forum of the other half of VJ2's writing team, dkstories, including Dom's parts. It's in Dan's forums, under Vampire Jarod and Vampire Jarod2, service.

I couldn't agree more.. But, isn't that true when it come to involving the government with, well, anything? Didn't Dan once imply that Davey wasn't sane, by saying that Davey was partially based on himself? (Just kidding!!!!!!)

I loved this chapter! I also wasn't expecting it today. I recall Dan mentioning Wednesday, but for some reason I thought he meant NEXT Wednesday. Seeing it sure made my day! I'm itching to discuss this chapter, but as it's so new I'll keep the spoilers to a minimum for a couple of days. In the meantime, S p o i l e r S p a c e I think one thing mentioned in passing is going to play a major role in the future: Davey's headaches. This is the second time it has been mentioned, and it looks significant IMHO.

Just a few comments from a newbie to the forums: If a newbie is particularly dense, said newbie might not realize that this part of your forum (as opposed to the story discussion) even exists. This would be due to not scrolling down whilst navigating to the story discussion. At least, that was the case with me, and I only found this area of your forum today. Oops. FWIW, I'll be buying one soon. I'm downright amazed that you are getting more traffic from that other site than from GA! Is the base traffic on the other site far greater than on GA?

ERK! Well, ya got me there, because DOR32 wasn't out when I wrote the original comment, and I didn't know he was going back THAT far.. And for some reason I picture Davey at "arrival time" as around 16 in the first two DO's (and I know that doesn't fit the story facts, but for some reason it's how I seem him and his friends.) But, Dan, that was EXACTLY the point I was hoping you would raise... Because, I couldn't agree more, and the solution is quite simple: Wait until Davey and .co are in high school.. So, let's see, that's about ten years in his future, right? And a year of his life averages around 5 chapters? So, somewhere around DOR80, there could be some really intriguing scenes involving all the guys, baseball uniforms, and Trevor's barn... (And if anyone picks up on the fact that I'm trying to manpuulate Dan into giving us 50 more chapters, shhhhh, please don't tell him...)

Hmmmm... My prediction for the first words of Chapter 5: "GET OUT!!!!" I just don't see this resolving quickly into a relationship (this is only chapter 4 after all) and based on the title, I'd guess that this story is about Nelson and Milo getting into a relationship. So, I don't think it will happen anytime soon. The "Nelson gets outed" theories look very interesting, too! My own wild guess: Milo thinks it's all a trap to out him! Given that the rich are even more wary about possible blackmail than most, and that Nelson's friends and Jame's opinions would make Nelson suspect, I can see why Milo might think this is all a trap. Nelson has a partial alibi, though: He can prove he's known about Milo's painting of him all along and has kept the secret (though, Dom did say he'd told his brother and GF already, so that might set up another plot twist).

The following was a part of a comment I made to one of Dan's posts on Dom's forum. I thought it might be more appropriate here. To which Tim replied Well, we'd best be careful not mention the above in Dan's forum, otherwise he might get ideas.

He's definitely more prepared, and I suspect he has a plan. I forgot to say that I really loved that sentence about nightmares walking the earth (his teacher). That was a real ROFL for me!!

Lots of unexpected things in this chapter! I've also got to say, this is probably the first time in the history of Sci-fi that the protagonist goes back in time, and promptly gets a spanking! ROFL! Very, very interesting though... I think I see where he is going with the programming, electronics, and gambling: As a wild guess, he's going to try and set things up so he has the resources to take out the other time travelers himself, without having to involve the government.

Errrr, there are just So MANY ways of interpreting that sentence..... I've been thinking that, too... However, there is another story here on GA that, as of the last chapter, has an opening (due to starting over) for that kind of thing. It's all about a time-traveling kid, and he's just about to go back into his own past, and who knows, this time he might try a three-way with Trevor and Brandon... Or. who knows, a 4 way with Brian, too? Right after a baseball game?

It's hard losing anyone in your family, under any circumstances. My sincere condolences and best wishes.

I discovered GA and started lurking here around the time TOU began. I'd read everything else Dom had posted, so gave TOU a try. It was about three chapters long at that time, and I've never been too fond of serials (I'm impatient) and it didn't quite grab me. I didn't like Quinn too much in the beginning, because he reminds me a lot of, well, me at that age. So, I skipped the next chapter, and then was mainly offline until quite recently due to unexpected medical issues (resolved, now). Upon my return, I signed up so I could participate in the discussions, and was delighted to find many new chapters to DD. I also noticed TOU was complete. So, I figured I'd give it a try. It was far different than I expected! I liked it a LOT more than I remembered, and now consider it one of my favorite stories. So, what I'm attempting to say is that IMHO, giving a story another chance once it has a few more chapters is a great idea.

Speaking of "The Log Way" I loved it, BUT, could someone please explain the title to me? I also note that it's sometimes mentioned as "The Lo(n)g way". The titles of Dom's other stories seem to fit the story, so when I read "The Log Way" I kept trying to figure out how it fit...

Wow. Best chapter yet, IMHO! Really well-written, clear, and powerful. I love the way it flows, and the way it began at Seth's, then shifted back to Alice's arrival. Now THAT's writing! OK, speculation time! Dom took time to describe GA's new family, and that the marriage was secret, and that they would not be moving in together for a while. Why all those unusual details if the story was about to end? And, one very big aspect that I didn't see mentioned: Does the new family know Rory is gay? What if the 19 year old son is big, straight, and homophobic? Or the new Husband? THAT could sure make a homecoming less than joyful, and why wouldn't I be surprised if Alice neglects to mention that little detail? On the other hand, there are other possibilities... For example, I'm sure hoping Dom doesn't end the story without Luke finding somebody (anybody!) he can be happy with, so I'm wondering if that 19 year old son is somebody Luke will fall for? Or maybe Rory will stay put in Arizona... ARGH, what a cliffhanger!

Hmmmm... I think, then, that we can call this a confirmed rumor! Thank you very much for the new chapter (and all your past work too!), whenever it appears! BTW, did you know that Chapter 3 of WT wasn't announced in the announcements forum? If that's what you intended, great, but just wanted to make sure you knew. Thanks again!

Hmmmm... Or, Dom could have written a whole chapter about Luke and GA falling for each other, only to have the last sentence read "Just kidding!" I hope you are right about the new chapter appearing..
