Now that is interesting!!!!!!! They do seem to be getting very close.. Hmmmm... Think about it from the Writer's point of view too: Rumor has it that Dan is not exactly thrilled with the current President Bush, and if Davey's Dad takes GHWB's place as VP, the effectively heads off both Bush presidencies.
-
Uhoh!!! Couldn't we just blame Trebs instead?
-
Never? Hmmmm... BTW, you do realize, of course, that if Davey DOES end up in a wheelchair in DOR 37, that you are going to be seeing a lot of this quote from now until doomsday?
-
Yep...and then he got a very worried look on his face when I started cackling evilly after typing the end of the chapter. Poor Robert...he gets startling hints and teasers...but doesn't get the chapter until it's been sent to Myr... What? Evil cackling? Say it ain't so! You sure are rough on your characters.. I can't think of ANY character in the DO & DOR series who hasn't died at least once! (Well, I'm cheating a bit by counting the nuclear wars.) However, those characters have it easy compared to some in VJ2..
-
Hmmmm.. DOR 36 has a baseball game in it, and the first sentence of the chapter sure made me do a double-take. So, was the very first part of DOR 36 what you were writing?
-
Three times actually if you count being obliterated by nuclear war before Sean goes back in DO... You are right!!! Killed Davey again, you mean? Even if you don't count the fatal effects of the Time Machine, he's already done so at least once. I think you are on to something big here... Just do a word search on "wheelchair" in DOR 36. There seem to be a LOT of mentions of it.
-
Be afraid, be very afraid.. Seriously, I thought I'd dislike it. I was astounded to find I loved it. Really, there is only one way to know: read a few chapters and see. Personally, I'd strongly advise doing so, because if you like it, it's great. If you don't, what have you lost?
-
I don't know about that... What if the next chapter is Davey's funeral? Remember, this is written by the same dkstories who has killed off Brian, TWICE! :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: BTW, great chapter, Dan! And now we know why the blog entry predicted screams coming from Florida (Emoe).

Well, yes, I remember... And I suppose you want me to tell you? OK, I did a quick check to confirm my memory, and the key chapters are 38 & 40 (right at the end in 40) in DO, and 19 & 22 in DOR. Chapter 38 in DO is the key, but, BEWARE! The first time I read DO, I didn't realize that the big blank spaces were not the end of the chapter! It confused the heck out of me because I missed the whole part about Sean. Keep scrolling down, and there are two big blank areas. Read everything after the first one, but read after the second one, too. As for 19&22 in DOR, it's not as critical, but explains a bit more about Sean, and shows that eventually Sean regained his memories somewhat. HOWEVER, I don't recall (nor does a text search show) any mention of "headache" or "headaches" in those chapters. Just that Sean's Do Over had problems, and at first he had memory trouble. Yet, in Ch 36 of DOR , it says

I loved this chapter! Nelson, though, is certainly VERY forward! I can see why he would rattle a still deeply closeted and insecure guy like Milo. On the other hand, the kiss was Milo's suggestion (sure, he was trying to get Nelson to leave, but... ) So, Milo, I think, is fighting an inner battle. He desperately wants to be "normal" and not gay, and the idea of being attracted to someone scares the heck out of him. But, obviously, On yet another hand, he seemed comfortable talking to Nelson in class, such as mentioning past crushes. I'd have thought that would make him nervous due to the risk of being overheard. I love all the small details in the story, like the smell of Tacos. Very well done (except it made me hungry!). It's a longshot, but I think Milo's housekeeper might know about him. After all, she sent Nelson to Milo's room, both times. And, finally, one thing this story hasn't shown so far is a real antagonist. Hmmm... Maybe it's the goat?

[dkstories] DOR 35 is up!
C James replied to Tim the Traveller's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
I guess this means that it's an uphill battle to convince you to extend it by a few more chapters? Maybe 50? OK, my speculation would be that Davey uses private means to take out the other time travelers, or stop the scientist (I'm not sure if the latter, alone, would work). That way, the secret is his alone, and he keeps it that way. :nuke: I'm also thinking that chapter 40 is going to be mainly flashbacks, so that you can cover the needed number of years in a short space. Now, as for the rumored turmoil in Chapter 36 and 37 (I'm waiting for those screams from Florida..) Hmmmmm... I'm thinking that something occurs to make any reunion with Brian appear to be most highly unlikely. My final prediction: Davey has more and more trouble remembering future events (his headaches) and the story closes with him slowly forgetting everything and becoming a normal kid again. -
[dkstories] DOR 35 is up!

I could not agree more!! If it was for necessities, I could understand, but not for frivolous stuff!! That was downright outrageous. I was however also disappointed in Grandma for telling her about the money. It's something she (Mom) both has no business knowing, and is clearly incompetent to handle. -
A belated happy birthday, Tim!!!!!! Glad to see from your post that you had a good one. I haven't read your blog yet, but I'm heading there now.

Errr, excuse me, but one thing your stories are not is similar! Even your sequels have big differences from the original. I certainly don't think, for example, that DO and VJ are in any way similar. There also seem to be more than a few differences between Jarrod and Davey. I also love the way you develop and portray secondary characters. For example, Trevor in DO and DOR. He's very well written! However, there is one glaring pitfall that, in my not-so-humble opinion, you are about to fall into: Making a sequel far, far too similar to the original in one major way! I am speaking of DO and DOR: it would be truly repetitive, similar, unimaginative, (and bad for your cholesterol levels) to make them both have the same number of chapters! Sequels, after all, should always be longer... Far longer.

Last night, I saw a TV series called "Complete Savages". One of the male leads is named Eric Von Detton. Very hot IMHO, tall, built but lean, and dark blond. Appearance wise (not his TV character!) He's about how I picture Davey. Well, not in second grade, like now (he'd be kinda big! ), but later. For some reason, I did tend to picture the main characters as being in their late teens in both DO and DOR. I know the story said otherwise, but that was the picture I had in my head. For Mrs. Mondragon, I was thinking Margret Thatcher (While she was PM), but without the accent. For Davey's sister, I was thinking of the little blond girl from the movie "Poltergeist".

Thanks for bringing up this subject!! I think your pick for Papa is excellent. I'm awful with celebrity names, so I can't think of anyone for the other roles, though I picture Davey's father as mildly overweight, slightly balding, and with a somewhat sinister countenance. Davey's father is, for me, the most complex and enigmatic of the characters. He does seem to have many aspects of his personality. OK, I'm editing this a day later, because I finally put a name to the image I was thinking of: Dean Stockwell. This time around, though, I'm very curious as to how he ends up. We have already had the baseball throwing incident, which is not a good sign, but he seems to be connecting with Davey again. However, there is one glaring portent: Davey's father is clearly on the road to ultimate evil: he's seeking a political office. (and you simply can't get more evil than that.) I offer the following link as proof of this: link

Yep, Dan missed his opportunity to confound me, as I very much enjoyed the chapter! Hmmm... I hope I don't get lynched for admitting this, but Dawn of Tears isn't the only DK story I haven't read yet. I've always absolutely hated any sort of "celebrity" story, and I've never liked Harry potter books (I tried reading one, once.). So, I haven't read Dan't Hairy Potter or Phone call stories. I doubt even dkstories could make me like either genra, but I recall saying that about Vampires, too, and being flat-out wrong. So, I'm going to give them a try soon. I guess my new rule is: If Dan wrote it, I'll read it.

[DomLuka] DD, THE last part

It's entirely possible that someone will read your comment. Who knows, it's even possible that they might quote it and reply to it... Nicky?? Hmmmm... I'm fairly new here, so that one puzzles me. But, there was a Nicky in TLW... Hmmmmm... Maybe that Nicky is Dom writing himself into the story? (blatant speculation here). -
I didn't think I'd like VJ 1 or 2 either, as that is not my area, either. But, I, like you, got hooked on it. Dan is one heck of a writer. I'd strongly suggest to anyone reading this who has not done so, give his stories a try. They are all very different, so if you don't like one, don't skip the rest.

[dkstories] DOR 35 is up!
C James replied to Tim the Traveller's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
I thought something similar, back when things started to go bad earlier in DOR. It looked more and more like he would have to go back again, but Dan was saying there would not be a DO3. Of course, I think there should be a DO3.. and a DO4, and a DO5, etc, etc, etc, so I'm probably biased. ROFL! ACK, I'm going to be haunted by that all day... -

I second that!!!! And, Tim, you are so right about not letting people know you have money! Personally, I keep that sort of information from anyone who happens to be breathing. :nuke: OK, spoilers below, hence the spoiler blackout (just highlight the area with your mouse to see the text). OK, The following is outside of spoiler spaces because it's an exceedingly minor spoiler: Ethan Allen furniture is mentioned, and Davey's Mom works there. I think this is VERY significant, given Davey's previously stated feelings about Osama Bin Laden, and not being able to take him out too early due to Bin Laden performing a useful function against the Soviets in Afghanistan. The involvement with Ethan Allen gives Davey one heck of an opening, should he decide to do something about Bin Laden. Ethan Allen, after all, was directed in the early 80's by Farooq Katwari (I probably butchered the spelling), who became CEO in the late 80's (and still is.). His own son was killed while fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan, and was associated with Bin Laden in that era. Farooq has many ties to Kashmiri militants. Well, that's my prediction regarding the significance of the mention of Ethan Allen! -
[DomLuka] DD, THE last part

Wow. A great ending!! I was in the "I want Luke to end up with somebody (anybody) nice." camp, but even so I loved this ending! My favorite bits: Luke going out on a date, and finding out the guy was straight! Sounds like Luke's Gaydar is every bit as good as Rory's! And Luke going on dates with three different guys in one weekend! I liked the changes in Aaron, and Rory's acceptance of Eddie as his Dad. It was all good! I loved this story. I do admit I'm sorry it's over, but IMHO far better to end it when the time came than to run it into the ground. I'll sure miss this story, but I'm already hooked on WT. THANK YOU DOM LUKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Well, that's a good point... I suppose this means it's still ok to make predictions regarding what will happen in chapter 37? Hmmm... I predict that there will be no cliffhanger in chapter 37!
-
Legal or not, surely Dan is getting water logged by now? Actually, I absolutely fully expected a chapter of DOR or VJ2 to appear today. The reason is simple: It's the one day I couldn't possibly read it! (I just had an eye exam, and can barely see thanks to the drops). Speaking of DOT, though... I am embarrassed to admit that I thought it was Mists of Fate, which I have read. So, what does this mean? It means I have an as-yet unread dkstories story waiting for me.
-
Note to self: if I'm going to piss off Dan, make sure I'm in a different time zone than he is. Seriously though, good for you! I can sort of identify with that, though sure as heck not taking on six guys! My first serious confrontation took place in the sixth grade. I was a dedicated chicken, who managed, despite all attempts to avoid it, to draw the attention of the school bully, an 8th grader. It was a religious school (Episcopalian) and the grades were K through 8. Basically, I'd made the mistake of having a funny accent (British, due to my family being from there) and the SOB (whose name I can't seen to even remember, now) decided to make my life hell. The School, of course, did nothing. Then one day he cornered me at recess, started hitting me, and I had no choice but to fight. I figured that if I was going to get hit, I might as well hit back. Much to the shock of everyone there (most especially my own) I won the fight. It wasn't even close, even though he was bigger than me. I had no further trouble of any kind with him, much to my delight. I learned an important lesson from that: Bullies are usually all bluff and little substance.
