Which hole are you punching, and which tool are you using?

In my town of about 14,000 persons, there are three taxi services available, plus Uber, Lyft, and two shuttle services. With the shuttle services you can ride locally all day for a flat fee, but you are expected to tip the driver at every stop where you exit the shuttle.. If you go out of the immediate area you negotiate the shuttle cost by the trip.

Love the reference to the track team. (Everything else has been covered in previous comments, it seems.) I get the digital version of my home town newspaper, and the middle school and high school track teams have been doing well this year. The girls team are being led by a school record-setting freshman and sophomore, and the boys team by a couple of record setting junior and senior guys. The middle school team has been doing very well also, being led by some school record-setting 5th and 6th grade boys. So I am very happy to see Kurtis already coming close to school records. Yes, that was said by Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was known for often despising the obfuscation of legal jargon.

This story, in a very good way, reminds me of a summary I saw of one of the first silent movies to use multiple camera cutaway techniques to build suspense. The old movie showed things happening away from the major characters which eventually would greatly impact the characters. It was said that the movie audiences, not used to that technique now widely used, gasped at what was happening away from the knowledge of the main characters. This story is like that, in that we are aware, but the golfer is not, of what else is happening. A very good read, and suspenseful.

I really like the easier access to the features. This had to take quite a bit of work to get this far. If it is this good now, how great will the upgrade be? Wow!

Oh, @Sherye Story Reader, this is wonderful! I have not laughed so happily about a story in years, if ever! I hope you have many more chapters to go in this story.

This is part of the King's Rangers Series by @Myr. It is well worth it to track every story in this world down and read.

This story has everything to recommend it. Suspense, surprises, self-smug administrator, scientific spacemen, stability-shifting strata, and more. Well worth reading.

If you have more fragments laying around from this universe, please, PLEASE, consider posting them. Love the following phrasing: "They left it there. Later, when Toby took a small, permitted draw of the protective emotion that still underlay Justin’s attention, he felt Justin register the feeding clearly and choose not to interrupt it. The reciprocity made the exchange visible in both directions. Toby had never experienced that before. It changed the texture of the act even when the quantity remained small." Excellent paragraph. Actually, the entire chapter is very good, but that part struck me even more than the rest.

I live in the United States Midwest, in an area where snow is not frequent. It boggles my mind that people cannot seem to understand that snow (and the sometimes ice storm) require different driving habits than dry pavement or regular rain on pavement. One Sunday a few years ago a sudden snowstorm arrived a few hours earlier than expected and I started home in in a car with a very light rear end, and rear-wheel drive. I came to an intersection and saw a 4-wheel drive vehicle on its side in the ditch -- because 4-wheel drive does NOT mean 4-wheel stop on snow which is mixed with sleet. Around the next curve another 4-wheel drive vehicle was also in the ditch on its side. Oh, where I live, there are many hills and curves, BTW (By The Way). My cautious driving got me home, a trip of about 5 miles (8 kilometers). But I saw many vehicles, not just those two 4-wheel drive vehicles, in the ditch or in wrecks. Lots of good stories in this week's wrap-up.

Kurtis has had enough problems already in his life that he may be slightly numbed or used to changes, more than the average teen.

Great chapter. I can only think of one story even slightly like this, from Isaac Asimov. It was titled "The Last Question." But I think this is even better.

@drpaladin and @sandrewn -- "morningtide" is a word meaning "morning time." "Dawntide" is a nonstandard word meaning time of dawn or dawning of tide(s).

Wow -- talk about action. Did Karen personally override safety protocols with the data? Is that why she is being such a [donkey's anal opening]?
