    Eli has always been an observer, an outsider, invisible. This is Eli's natural state. It is quite ideal for what he is to become. If he had never met the Vespers or Lucien, his future would have remained as an anchor to his mother. It's not very appealing. I would have been more expansive with my last day, but this is Eli. He had an Eli day. I'm not sure how continuing to see his family will work, but the choice is very Eli.
