  1. Here is Aditus' challenge:
  2. That was fast. I slept through the whole thing.
  3. Happy Birthday, Slytherin! From all your friends, everywhere.
  4. I hated the day I gave up my old Marantz amplifier/tuner. It was a great piece of equipment. But, alas, it was obsolete. It didn't have a single digital bone in it's body...not a single digital input. The new set top boxes (cable/satellite) and Blu-Ray DVD players all had optical digital outputs that needed a corresponding input for sound. So, I now have a Onkyo TX-SR501 AV Receiver. It's not nearly the machine the Marantz was and didn't cost nearly as much, but it's a great piece of equipment. They are hard to find now...have been replaced by newer, probably better, models, but they are great! Used ones are about $50 at Amazon.
  5. I'm posting this challenge at Sam's (Foster's) request. He will respond to guesses and provide clues if he feels generous. Who is this?

    Countdown: 4 days!

    Safe travel.
  7. Sam wins it! It is comedian Ernie Kovacs in his persona, Percy Dovetonsils: Percy was the first "gay" character on network TV...60 years ago. And the Nairobi Trio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=DoLTFQsFswM OK, Sam...your turn to challenge us.

  9. My sons loved Benny Hill while they where growing up. Speaking of clowns...sorry, no politics allowed here. Who is this? NO CHEATING!
  10. It's a good thing Benny Hill was never grumpy.
  11. Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Wales The translation of the name is 'St. Marys Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel Near to the Rapid Whirlpool of Llantysilio of the Red Cave'.
  12. I think Sly is correct.
  13. Thomas Hardy? One of my favorite authors. He's right up there with Joseph Conrad - very different but both very good. It's unfortunate that cliffhangers are so ubiquitous now.
  14. Could it be Oscar Wilde?
  15. Don't know. By my count, chapter 156 is 20,390 words. Circumnavigation comes in at 1,126,091 words excluding the epilogue, exactly double War and Peace (Tolstoy) and almost as long as Remembrance of Things Past (Proust).

    On that subject .......

I tried to tell my male friends to be sure that they had their PSA checked annually. I got strange reactions. They don't want to have cancer and they apparently don't won't some doctor telling them they do. I love parties! Count me in. I just need to figure out how to use Skype.
  17. Yay, Podga! And honorable mention to Iarwain for educated guesses; he was off by only 1,000 miles and 2,000 years. The oldest known cave paintings in North America have been found recently in Tennessee. See Nashville Public Radio article and Discovery News slideshow. The exact location of the caves involved is not being made public. The documentary below is very interesting (14½ minutes). Note: the film includes brief moments of nudity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yjVrdOT31dA Podga's turn.
