  1. And seventy-something is the new thirty-something?
  2. Zombie, I think it's a photo of an oil portrait.
  3. Redneck Skydiving Watch closely, happens quickly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=5tdsbzubam0
  4. I agree that she made the right decision. A cancer diagnosis (or near certainty of a future diagnosis as Angelina Jolie faced) frequently leaves the patient with a choice between surgery and watchful waiting (frequent testing and long term monitoring). The younger the patient, the more appropriate radical surgery is. My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 80. He opted for watchful waiting and eventually died of another disease. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer the same year at age 55, relatively young for prostate cancer. I opted for radical surgery and, although the surgery didn't cure me, have lived nearly 16 very good years, which is probably 10 years longer than expected.
  5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doogie_Howser,_M.D. Oh, to be young again.
  6. Don't hesitate to join Alcoholics Anonymous. They have an amazing track record and it's all about alcoholics helping each other avoid the temptations. My family has a history of alcoholism. My father broke that cycle and I am forever grateful. You can start a new tradition. I'll be praying for you.
  7. Congratulations, Paya! Great second effort! Kudos to Red_A for his research. Alvin C. York was the most decorated American soldier of World War I, including the Medal of Honor, the USA's highest award. He is forever known as Sergeant York, the rank he held at the end of the war when he came home to great acclaim. That is despite the fact that he eventually held the rank of Colonel during the Second World War. The World War II Victory Medal was a real surprise to me. If you would like to know more, I recommend the Wikipedia article that Paya linked. Sweet dreams, Paya. We await another challenge once you awake.
  8. Good! The clues are working. Time for others to join in and make a guess.
  9. Good research, Red_A! But it's not Lazare Ponticelli. The medals (in order) are: Order of Prince Danilo I (Montenegro) Croce di guerra al merito (Italy) Croix de guerre (France) Our subject was awarded all those plus : And: Among others. So, who is it?
  10. No offense. I was just curious whether you were referring to the author as "deus" or some supernatural event in the story.
  11. So, a contemporary novel, out of necessity, becomes a work of fantasy?
  12. OK, I'll make another attempt with this line of clues. I really expect someone to recognize their significance. You don't have to know the mystery man's name to speak up and put another participant on the track to reaching a solution.
  13. I am determined that someone will figure out the meaning of the clues I offer, or see the pattern that will lead them to identify the man. Here is the next one:
  14. Whoa...easy Paya. No one had even asked for a clue. Try this one. This is a real clue, connected to the man in question.
  15. Can't believe no one has ventured a guess. I suppose I'm obliged to provide a clue. He was a man of the twentieth century, well known in his time.
  16. ONE FOR ALL THE OLD CODGERS! There was a family gathering, with all generations around the table. Mischievous teenagers put a Viagra tablet into Grandpa's drink, and after a while, Grandpa excused himself because he had to go to the bathroom. When he returned, however, his trousers are wet all over. 'What happened, Grandpa?' asked his concerned children. 'Well,' he answered, 'I don't really know. I had to go to the bathroom. So I took it out and started to pee, but then I saw that it wasn't mine, so I put it back!'
