  1. As a frenchie, I'm not part in this discussion. But I would be interested to know how many different english's do you have in writing (I mean languages with a litterature, not dialects). For instance, you have the academic French from France (Paris !), Swiss French (suisse-romand), with great authors like Ramuz or Chessex, and I suppose French languages with some cultural particularities and their own vocabulary as Quebec French and French from the "Isles" (Martinique, Guadeloupe, aso). So how is it with english ?

    I'm Ba-ack

    congrats ! and welcome ba-ack
  4. Do you believe in the idea of the apocalypse? Your question is a mix of an religious belief and the consideration of the future of our planet. For me, the Johannes Apocalypse is the expression of a vision which cannt be taken as a real forecast of the future. Like other places in both Testaments, it cannt be considered litteraly. So my answer is NO. On the other side, the scientific researches of the beginning of the universe show us that each planet and each star has a "birth" and a "death". It should be the same for our Earth, in some billions of years. Mars seems to be a dead planet. Who knows, its perhaps our future. Should you call it an Apocalypse ? BTW, imagine an Apocalypse in a SF story and believe in it are two points of view which shouldnt be mixed .
  5. nice picture. Afraid to show yourself at sixty ?
  6. Hahaha .Well said Mike . Its nice to find a site where straights are qualified as minorities . Could we imagine a world with a majority of GBLT-people ? Why not ?
  7. The Angel of Death ? Is it a compliment or refering to the scythe the Angel use to cut the heads of the dyings ? As usual, "staff people" between the top bosses and the "working people" have the worst position to keep ! At your age, you have about 10 years to endure . Keep smiling and courage !
  8. Bring them together with you. Tell them that you know they have a problem (dont say which one! ). Dont talk about the problem itself but ask them to let you out of it. In the same time, tell them that they have to deal themselves with the problem and that you dont want to loose either of them as friend . ("Salomon's judgment !)
  9. RIP Marco. I wish you a good journey on the other side. Perhaps we will meet when my time will come. Let your big brother remember all your common happy memories. (very) old Bob

Thanks for all your votes, and for the fact that only 1 answer (5,5 %) found it stupid. I would like to comment the first comments on my poll. It seems that I made a mistake in letting the votes being public (see the comment of Mark). I
  11. They are so many..... Just for fun, I think of two national anthems . You cannt listen and sing them without emotions and happiness for your country . 1. Your anthem :"The Star-Spangled Banner" The official one : Hand on heart I found some older versions under this link 2. The other is the French anthem : " La Marseillaise" Garde

Beside GA (which is obviously the best) , I used to check a lot of other sites, with their diversities and their particular features, some amazing, some just interesting. I chose 12 of them, just to reduce the size of the poll. But before you vote, I would advise you to check these sites. You find them all under how to find these sites. I will not be the first to vote, because I want first to see if this poll has a sense. I just hope you will find the topic interesting. IMHO, we have on the web such an huge amount of gay stories that it is almost impossible to make a quick choice. Maybe this ranking will help you. I wish those who dare to answer a good work and maybe some fun.
  13. This "religion"-flowchart is incomplete. There should be cross-references . See my case : 1. I want to worship One God (even if I dont know if He exists ) 2. I want to be reincarneted 3. I F*cking love Bacon 4. I'm not a Naturally Annoying Person 5. I'm not Christian (BTW, I'm also neither Boring and Generic) 6. At last and least, I'm Jewish (and proud to be :king: ). Couldn't Jake Scribe, Arpeggio, Phantom or somebody else correct this flowchart for me ? BTW, what is Hummus ? I didnt find the word in my English dictionary .
  14. The real problem : which flowers ? The flowers have their own language : The language of flowers, sometimes called floriography, was a Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing individuals to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. The nuances of the language are now mostly forgotten, but red roses still imply passionate, romantic love and pink roses a lesser affection; white roses suggest virtue and chastity and yellow roses still stand for friendship or devotion. Also commonly known meanings are sunflowers, which can indicate either haughtiness or respect. Gerbera (daisy) means innocence or purity. The iris, being named for the messenger of the gods in Greek mythology, still represents the sending of a message. A pansy signifies thought, a daffodil regard, and a strand of ivy; fidelity. 15. My best wishes for your 63th Birthday Happyness, good Health and the best winds in your sailings .
  16. As Krista said, a watch has other functions. Its a jewel, often a very expensive one. See, for instance this one : nice, isnt it or this one : It costs more than 12'000 USD. You wear it mostly to show yourself BTW, mine is an old Swatch (price 50 Swiss francs !)
  17. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SANDRA!!! 50 is the beginning of a new youth. At least it was for me, and I wish you the same
  18. No. I use both, 2 cell phones for my wife and myself, 3 land lines (one for private calls, one for business calls and one for fax). As I'm still working half time at home, so I need all. It doesnt cost a lot, because I have only one contract for all lines at a reduced price (we have 4 different providers here and I negociated with all to get the best conditions ) .
  19. Want adresses ?
  20. The best saunas have 3 rooms : the first is hot (up to 50 degrees C or 120 F, or even more) and dry (not to mix up with hammams, which are humid with hot steam), the second contains a small pool with very very cold water to cool your body and revive your mind, and the third is a quiet and cosy room, with small lights and nice couches, sometimes divided in more private places for two or more . The third room is ideal for a make out, and I used it often. The bad side is the cold pool, but when you come out, you enjoy even more the couches .
  21. Its the main question I'm asking myself, loosing a few years ago my daughter and last year my son.... "The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind" Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Peter, Paul and Mary may have the answer ?
  22. Congrats for this anniversary I like not only your stories, but even more your posts and blogs. And BTW, your political opinions (as it seems to me) are not so far from mine . But just a question : I see that you joined GA allready in February 2005, with a long silence till 2008. Why waiting so long till posting your first story ? Long life to you and your stories !
  23. Rituals are very important, particularly in the three main events of one's life : birth, marriage or commitment and death. They are often the only occasion to check how many relatives and friends (close or not) you have.I'm glad to hear from your blog that you saw it and the way your father's funerals went was an help in your mourning. When you get older and when you will reach an age as I do, you will find out that to witness a funeral is often an occasion to see all the people you care of but you hadn't time to meet. It's also a way to show your feelings about all those who left and to prepare you to your own leaving.
  24. What a list ! BTW, what do you mean with "frequently challenged" ? I came to 49, most of them in french translations; and I saw a lot of movies made from some of these books. The bests for me are two books, which I'm still re-reading now : "Winnie-the Pooh" and "Kim". But why are they on your list ? And why only 100 books ? Another book I could imagine to be on your list is "Story of O" (French: Histoire d'O), an erotic novel published in 1954 about dominance and submission by French author Pauline R
  25. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CONNER ! I wish you a long life, enough time to practise "men, baseball, sci-fi, Robin Williams movies, dance, reading, humour, all things vampire, and goats", as you said in your profile.
