    General update

I'm sorry, West, but I have a strong feeling that all your situation " stinks". The management is playing a dirty game with you. IMO, they need you as a shield for some no so "kosher" work, and if the things go wrong, you will have to take the responsability and be thrown out . At the moment, your only choice is to keep a low profile, be careful, establish a record, collate documents, everything which could be useful for your defense. Maybe I'm wrong (I hope so) ? In a few words : take care ! In my long business life, I saw a few of such cases and only a good preparation was the only way to manage the case in favor of the employee.

    Insomnia tip

Your tip is nothing else as than an old methode called autogenic training . I practice it since 40 years . See :autogenic training It's no only for insomnia, but for relaxing after physical and psychical stress. I couldnt live without .
  3. Lost in my thoughts, I let my mind wander and searched the 10 nicest words that best match what I expect from life. Here they are, as they came in my mind, unranked in a first step : Love Friendship Happiness Forgiveness Joy Hope Sunshine Wisdom Endearment Pleasure By reading my list, it seemed to me that they are still ranked, that my Unconscious worked behind my conscious mind, as Its name indicates it . Now two questions : What do you think of my list ? How would be your list ? BTW, it would be nice to read a short story with all these words in it. Anybody to dare the challenge ?
  4. What a "romantic post" .....After reading your blog, i was really happy for you and had to smile all day long, feeling an unclouded happiness "warming my heart" (It's a french expression : "avoir chaud au coeur"). I wish you good luck and hope the best for you in the next days. Come on, the future belongs to those who seize their chance.

    Stressful times

My proposal is to use the scoring system to rationalize the decision you have to take. Make a list of the possibilities you have : Accept the new job, Leave as soon as possible, Stay for a while but search a new job (with head-hunters ?) unbeknown to your boss. [*]Make two lists ( one positive, one negative) for each possibility above.[*]Give a score between 4 and 1 (with + for positive and - for negative) for each position of the first list and with opposite signs for the second.[*]Add up all the scores and you will get a sum for each possibility. The one with the maximum will be the one you should choose. If you are not satisfied with your result the first time, try it again, change the parameters, play with the scores until you have the feeling that you have found the right solution. Try it and tell me what you think about my proposal. The most important is not the result, it’s the path to arrive at a goal which suits you.
  6. If I remember well, just once, and it was more “playing” with the thought than a real readiness to do it. 62 years ago (I was 20, the age of infinite passions), I was betrayed by a young girl who preferred an elder, more experimented guy. My heartache was so strong that I thought I couldn’t endure it. I was at the end of a railway wagon, moving at high speed. I opened the outside door, almost ready to jump. Fortunately, I didn’t . I just began to feel my pain as a lesson, an hard one and I realized that nothing would justify such an end.
  7. I tried several times to post in forums and on my blog texts with a lenght of about 600 words ( about 35 lines), without success. I suppose I was rejected because my post was too long. So my question in the title. Thanks in advance for the answer and any help. BTW, I just checked the "site Help*. That's really amazing and worth to be red . I know now that I'm a Danderthal :king:.
  8. by order of importance : 1. work (I was,am and will be forever a workalcoholic !) 2. internet (to read and to participate, it's mostly a working tool) 3. tobacco (my pipe !) 3. swimming (but only when the water is warm enough) 4. sex (as a dream, I'm too old for real !
  9. Trev, you are sooo young... I'm sure you will once live a real moment which will be the one you will remember... forever . (As I did). Everybody should have such a chance. You should just be watchful,.... "Somewhere, behind the rainbow".....
  10. A little statistics: during these 8 years, 23 different categories came to life, from “Christmas” to “People are strange”. 344 short stories were written, almost an average of 50 per year. Last night, a went through a few of them, trying to make me an opinion of the way they were written, the overall quality of each, how they implemented the subject, their style and the choice of words. It was a funny and very interesting task, comparing the stories from these points of view, without trying to make a scale which one was better than others. The more important result of my study was: a constant improvement from year to year: better writing qualities, more relevant to the category, in one word: better stories. I’m not a skilled critic, as those you can find in specialized reviews, and my opinion isn’t certainly not worth a lot, but I like reading as others like writing, and as usual : “practice makes perfect” or as we say in French : “C'est en forgeant qu'on devient forgeron » (“the only way for a blacksmith to become a master is practice”). The same for all these authors who participated in the Anthologies. In name of all the readers :THANKS TO THEM .
  11. If I can remember well, my first memories go back to 1932 (I was 3 years old). That makes 79 years to remember, so not an easy task to choose the moment of my life I would like to relive... As I already wrote it in one of my first blogs, I was 14. It was a nice summer, we were 3 boys same age, camping on a lonely beach on the lake of Geneva. Nobody else was there and we hiked between forest and beach and jumped from time to time in the deep lake to cool and enjoy. In the late evening, one boy, the eldest of us, disappeared in our tent and went to sleep. We stayed on the beach, my best friend and me, looked ourselves deep in the eyes, silent, each of us expecting the other to make the first step. And then, suddenly we both put our swimsuits away, ran naked to the water and began to fight against each other, just to touch with our hands what our eyes had seen before for the first time. The fight became a play, and we discovered “by practice” that we were both gay. It was my real fist experience of making love with a boy, a wonderful experience, the best one of all others that came later in my life. Relive it ? I still do it in my dreams……
  12. Thanks Man What I wrote here is only a small part of my blog. I suppose it was too big, so it didnt work at first (?)
  13. Going back to Neph’s blog about death (24.01.2011), I see now that her point of view concerned more the feelings of the accompanying people then these of the main person, the dying one, while my blog concern more what I will myself feeling at my last moments. In one phrase : the most important is what happens when you are with someone dying, helping him or her to cross the border between life and death, not what will happen with the body afterwards. The chance I have to have lived till now such a fine life is also that it seems to me that I’m better prepared to what will once happen, and that I already reached the 5th stage of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross in her 1969 book, On Death and Dying : Acceptance From my own experience, everybody is going through these stages, more or less, alone or with<a name="OLE_LINK12"> accompanying people sharing with them their feelings. But the best way to go through it is to think of it in advance, to be prepared to live it and not to fear it.
  14. Thanks for your advice , but it doesnt resolve my problem. When I do it (and I did it before your answer) , the blog is published, but with just its title and no text ! I got the text OK in the preview, but nothing when published. I still wish to get help from somebody who wrote the soft (Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese). For someone who want to see it, I publish the last version of my blog, as described above (see it under Old Bob's blog).
  15. I tried to write a new blog, brought it to preview, but wasnt able to fully publish it. What i got was just the blog title and nothing else. Whjat made I wrong ? BTW, I have several blog's list on my name. That's also wrong. How can I correct it ? I need help, thanks in advance for your advices
  16. Brian Breckenridge, the one from "DOING IT RIGHT", but only under two conditions : 1. 62 years ago, when I was 20, 2. Davey shouldnt exist ! (with him alive, my chances would be = zero !).
  17. What a clear and wise way to answer . I fully agree with you Bleu. I made in my long life 5 times (parents, children, friends) the same experience as you did with your wife, each time with the same grief and together a feeling of hope. Death belongs to Life,
  18. Happy Birthday, Joey! My best wishes for an happy future and wonderful happenings

    the mask

Are you hiding behind this Mask ? I hope not . BTW,everybody has his own mask. Carl Jung, the founder of analytical psychology, calls it persona. The persona is the mask or appearance one presents to the world.
  20. Definitely Yes ! Here some reasons : - You will earn more money in your jobs. -You will find more interesting jobs. -You will be better to understand the world around you. -You will increase your knowledge and have a better use of it. -you will expand your understanding of the world. - you will getmore possibilities to travel around the world. - you will get to know more people and find more friends. As Jamessavik said, the main problem is to choose the right degree, a degree which suits you and correspond to what you will do with your future life. It's what I did . I studied electronics and management engineering. I worked in "energy fields (oil, building storage centers) , consulting authorities and trading companies, managing companies in the film industry, counseling in long term strategy matters, a lot of things I only could do thanks my college degrees. The most important matters I learnt in college were accounting and law, and applying it in technical fields made me rich, until I lost almost everything through producing myself films (!). But this is another story . After reading th other comments, I must add that the most important decision is the choice of the right college, not always the most expensive, but one which correspond to what you will do with your future life. It's what I did (Swiss Institute of Technology, same as MIT). I was a working student, I had to pay the college fees from my salary, but it was worth it.
  21. His first story ("the Wreckers") was published but is now sold out
  22. Happy Birthday, Bleu! Best Wishes Too! I dont dare to say it in French, somebody could warn me about not using english..... Vieux Bob
  23. Michael Moore is a polemicist, trying to bring as much as possible people to think. The fact that you seems beginning to think doesnt make you a total socialist, not even a simple minded socialist
  24. James, if the answer of your question in the title of your blog is "YES", are you in favor of a military intervention from the South toward the North, and if your answer of my question is "YES", should USA back up the South or even intervene directly ? Remember 1950 - 1953. Since the armistice of 1953, there have been many incursions and acts of aggression from North Korea across the border.. Four infiltration tunnels leading to Seoull have been uncovered and a lot more. North troups didnt move then. What else now ?
