  1. And you ?
  2. you have to go above 2'000 meters. There are still huge amounts of snow there, but you must be more carefull (avalanches !). And for the kids and families, you have artificial snow on the pists, provided the temperature is lower than 2 degrees Celcius.
  3. As Bob Dylan said : " the times there are changing.... remember Katrina and the changes of the Gulf Stream.. Either we "play" with the Weather with our carbon monoxide and dioxide in the atmosphere, or the Earth is going from itself to a warmer period. the Earth seems to have been ice-free even in high latitudes except during relatively rare glacial maximums such as the one from which we emerged 10 to 15 thousand years ago. So the "normal trend" is what we are living now. Here in the alps, we expect a large decrease of our glaciers, more rock falls, and warm winters as today . Enjoy the warmth We do here.
  4. I dont know how it is in the States, but I can only talk about the experiences in my Country. As a candidate to a political office, gay or not, you have to resolve the same problem : how to convince the voters that you and nobody else are the best qualified man for the office ? For that challenge, you need : - a lot of real friends, - the support of the media people (that means that you are "radiogenic" and "photogenic", in one word "a nice guy"), - to be appreciated in your party (that means that you have begun in the party by doing all the small duties that nowbody wants to do) - some money to pay the posters and the bills (thats not the most important point here like in the States), - to be a good talker and writer and to be capable to express yourself clearly, promptly and with humour, - to be able to spend a huge lot of time with people you suppose they can help you to get your goal, even if you dont like them. - to stay cool and never get angry even when somebody attacks you. - to more, to be persevering and steady, ready to wait long enough till the right opportunity happens. If you are positive on all these points, you will success. To be gay is here a private matter, you can talk about it or not. Its the same with your religion, Nobody will ask you about it . The fact that you belong to a religious party or to an extreme "liberal party" is more important that your belief or behaviour. I suppose you will say : happy country ! I do also ! Old Bob
  5. Hey Dio You forget a very important part of the litterature of today : the comic strips, the mangas, aso. check for instance "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_comic_strips" under comic strips and they are not for children only . Old Bob
  6. Hey everybody. In my comments to " Discuss Bardeara's Winter Anthology story, "Right Up Until the Very End", I wrote : "A suggestion for all writers : put illustrations (photos and/or drawings) in your stories A suggestion for all editors : suggest illustrations (photos and/or drawings) to the writers of the stories you are editing. A suggestion for site programmers : You did fine by creating the gallery(as a first step ) . Would it be possible for readers to select and put pictures as illustrations in the stories they like (after consent of the writer) ? " Now I remember that Dan put a lot of nice pictures of US Navy ships in his story "Do Over". IIRC, BICBW, he is the only writer who did it. The other example is Kitty posting nice pictures while editing in the story above. so my poll . Old bob

Hey Joe, When I read your two last blogs, it seems to me : 1. That you are almost ready for a big decision, 2. That you made a lot of progress from 29th december to today. I could give you a lot of advices from my own experiience, but you dont need them. Just one : go deeper down in yourself, you will find your answer. Good luck and take care. Old (very old !) Bob

  11. Hey Jack, happy Birthday 50 is the beginning of a new youth ! BTW, you know who you are ? A capricornian, an ever young Goat Capricorn is the tenth sign of the Zodiac and associated with hard work and business affairs. Individuals born under this sign are thought to have an ambitious, patient, responsible, stable, trustworthy, shrewd and persistent character but one which is also prone to coldness, conservatism, rigidity, materialism, and dullness. In terms of anatomy, Capricorn is said to rule the knees, bones, and skin. Physically, individuals born under the sign of Capricorn supposedly tend to have straight and dark hair, steady eyes, a dark complexion, capable hands, and prominent cheekbones. Capricorn is one of the most stable and (mostly) serious of the zodiacal types. These independent, rocklike characters have many sterling qualities. They are normally confident, strong willed and calm. These hardworking, unemotional, shrewd, practical, responsible, persevering, and cautious to the extreme persons, are capable of persisting for as long as is necessary to accomplish a goal they have set for themselves. They are reliable workers in almost any profession they undertake. They are the major finishers of most projects started by the 'pioneering' signs; with firm stick-to-it-ness they quickly become the backbone of any company they work for. Capricornians make of themselves, resourceful, determined managers; setting high standards for themselves and others. They strive always for honesty in their criticism of self, they respect discipline from above and demand it from those beneath them. In their methodical, tough, stubborn, unyielding way, they persist against personal hardship, putting their families and/or their work before their own needs and welfare to reach their objectives long after others have given up and fallen by the wayside. In fact when practical ability allied with the drive of ambition are required in employees to make a project succeed, Capricornians are the people to hire. They plan carefully to fulfill their ambitions (which often include becoming wealthy), they are economical without meanness, and able to achieve great results with minimum effort and expense. Because of their organizing ability they are able to work on several projects simultaneously. They have a great respect for authority but may not, if they reach high rank, be willing to listen to other opinions on things they are directly responsible for. As the ranking authority figure in a given situation they expect their underlings to be as self disciplined as they themselves are, and to perform every task undertaken to the highest standard. They are, nevertheless, fair as well as demanding. Among their equals they are not always the most pleasant of work fellows for they are reserved and too conservative, valuing tradition more than innovation, however valuable the latter, and they are often humorless. There is also a tendency to pessimism, melancholy and even unhappiness which many Capricornians are unable to keep to themselves, especially if they fail personally. In the extreme this trait can make them a very depressed individual; ecstatic happiness alternating with the most wretched kind of misery which is so subconsciously buried that he or she should seek help if such emotions become frequent. For the above reason, capable Capricorn should spend many hours in meditation, gathering the strength to control such inner emotions. The swings in mood are not the only reason some Capricornians deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals they seem to be, and they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy. In certain individuals in whom the characteristic is strong, the temptation to do this has to be resisted with iron self-control. Another unexpected quality in some Capricornians is an interest in the occult which persists in spite of their naturally skeptical turn of mind. Their intellects are sometimes very subtle. They think profoundly and deeply, throughly exploring all possibilities before deciding on a 'safe' alternative. They have good memories and an insatiable yet methodical desire for knowledge. They are rational, logical and clearheaded, have good concentration, delight in debate in which they can show off their cleverness by luring their adversaries into traps and confounding them with logic. In their personal relationships they are often ill-at-ease, if not downright unhappy. They are somewhat self-centered but not excessively so, wary and cautious around people they do not know very well, preferring not to meddle with others and in turn not to allow interference with themselves, thus they tend to attract people who do not understand them. Casual acquaintances they will treat with diplomacy, tact and, above all, reticence. They make few good friends but are intensely loyal to those they do make, and they can become bitter, and powerful enemies. They sometimes dislike the opposite sex and test the waters of affection gingerly before judging the temperature right for marriage. Once married, however, they are faithful, though inclined to jealousy. Most Capricornians marry for life. Their occupations can include most professions that have to do with math or money and they are strongly attracted to music. They can be economists, financiers, bankers, speculators, contractors, managers and real estate brokers. They excel as bureaucrats, especially where projects demanding long-term planning and working are concerned, and their skill in debate and love of dialectic make them good politicians. They are excellent teachers, especially as principals of educational establishments where they have the authority to manage and organize without too much intimacy with the staff members. If working with their hands, they can become practical scientists, engineers, farmers and builders. The wit and flippancy which is characteristic of certain Capricornians may make some turn to entertainment as a career. Do you recognize your portrait ? Old Bob
  12. I remember several songs, and have to bring them all, because I cannot choose only one which " fits my life". They are : " Blowin in the wind" and "The times they are changing" (Bob Dylan) "Where have all the flowers gone" (Peter, Paul and Mary, a folk singing group of the 1960s) "What a wonderful life" (Louis Armstrong) "Summer time" From "Porgy and Bess" (Billie Holiday) And last but not least: "Amazing Grace" (Joan Baez) Not to forget: An American translation from a French song : "My way" (Frank Sinatra). I know, It's a very old-fashioned choice, but I am what I am Old bob
  13. WOW, what a nice gift, Christmas ornaments on each page! Thanks a lot to all these devoted people who worked hard to give us this gift. A Merry Christmas all over the world for those who feast, for those who pray, and even for those who dont believe to anything but who celebrate the Winter solstice and the return of longer days. Nobody should feel alone on Christmas evening. Gaia is one and all his inhabitants are on the same boat. old Bob
  14. Hey Lele By reading this post, I found your signature very appropriate May I ask you ? Is it home made ? Or did you find it somewhere? Peace on Earth, malgrado Il Papa. And buon Natale Old bob
  15. Hey Trebor (why not?) Advocate, Ombusman, Mediator, all these words are good to describe a very important function and to ask Trebs to fulfil it is a very good idea. I just hope that some people will not think that the choice of the denomination "advocate" could suggest the ideas of "prosecutors", "courts" and "judges"! May I just bring a proposition from my personal experience to have been an "Ombusman" years ago in my professional life? An Ombusman has two possibilities to bring peace in a conflict: wait till one or the other party asks him to act as a mediator, or take himself the initiative to talk with both parties. The first one is easier, the second more efficacious, but it means that the "Advocate" should be able to follow the rising of "misunderstandings" and so prevent the conflicts. Not an easy task! And thanks to you, to DK and last but not least to Myr to show us with this suggestion that they all and together want to "go forward". Old bob
  16. Hey Jack The 51 comments are even better than Savage's blog How do you find such sites ? I like it. Thanks and merry Chrismas. Old Bob

  24. Born in December are the children conceived in Springtime, children of love, of flowers and the breaking up of nature. You are lucky You are born under the sign of the Sagittarius, the Archer, a sign "mutable, fire, universal" which means : freely, straightforwardly, carelessly. Your master-words : "I seek," philosophic, fun-loving, arrogant, adventurous, expansive, optimistic, blundering, believer, scattered, hips/thighs ..... It's a mutable sign, associated with resourcefulness, holism and adaptability. I wish all of you to be strong warriors, a long life, cheerful encounters, happyness, success, and at last but not least wisdom. You deserve it . Old bob
