Monica and Garrett were interesting characters to write. I suspect that I may not have wholly captured Monica as I wanted, yet I hoped to show that her heart was in the right place, despite her flaws. It is wonderful to hear that this is your second time through this story. That makes my heart sing. Thank you.
I’m humbled by your very kind words. If Rick has gotten close to your heart, then perhaps this story will have succeeded. So many of us feel isolated, alone, and move from shadow to shadow. Rick has managed to move into sunlight, and has real love and companionship. May we all be so fortunate. Once again, thank you for reading and for your comments.
There are so many lonely people like Rick in this world. Our current poisonous politics are making the situation worse. Thanks very much for your comments.
Cindy just can’t stop being that person who needs to force everyone else into the mold she’s made for them. It’s immensely hard to let kids grow up, harder still when one feels the need to bind those kids ever more tightly rather than let them make their own errors. I applaud Jackson’s growth since the story began. Luke has made him into someone better.
I think of two things in this delightful story. Kittens are indeed priceless. At he same time, I’m mindful of Ogden Nash’s little couplet:
”The trouble with a kitten is that
it always grows into a cat.”
Value, like beauty, is in the eye and heart of the beholder. This story speaks to that. Any dealer knows that a single gift or bargain granted brings a repeat customer. That horse was a bargain for both the narrator and the dealer.
Considering what a zoo CJ and Owen’s lives are about to become, I enjoyed this diversion to an actual zoo - the interview and conversation had a relaxing pace and vibe.
This time the outside world has reached in and taken a familiar face away from Liam. It’s not a predictable, safe place out there. I like how you describe Liam’s unsettled feelings about Jared. He doesn’t really know his to articulate them.
You put the question very aptly. Kee and Loy’s world refused to embrace them, and instead tried to unmake them entirely. But those in power did not count on a man like Loy, who remade them instead. Thanks so much for your thoughts and comments.
This chapter has more ominous rumblings of storms over the horizon. Liam’s care team is right to be concerned, and is smart to put off his old teacher. Liam will be sheltered for a while longer, but not forever.
I’m delighted the last line got to you! It was an inspiration in the heat of writing the end of the story. Thanks especially for choosing this story as in-flight entertainment. It was a really fun challenge to undertake this prompt.
He’s got absolutely no control over the green waters of the Gulf. He has changed and perhaps the Gulf will make it all for naught. I will await your verdict on Wally later on. Thanks again for reading!
