Gotta say, I love when Elyssa shows up. Kinda a love/hate. She truly loves her children, yet at the same time is one heck of a vicious snake. How you manage to keep such a complex character straight with our screwing up one of her many motives is truly amazing.

That was an interesting and enjoyable addition to the cast. I was expecting more espionage from the outside, rathar than a surprise from with in. You're definitely raising the bar on intrigue with this chapter.

I love how all the layers are coming together from all the sides of the story. Your weaving is intense as always. Almost tempted to throw you in the dog house for pulling heart strings, .... almost. Such a great job at building up towards a thunderstorm. Your ability to build up the tension and anticipation over the last couple of chapters has been amazing. No lighting or squall line yet, but the thunder is getting louder. You're still an evil artist. 😝😍

I get what you're stepping in. I think I missed it at first because 1) that's been the topic of discussion at work the last few days, for reference I work in the service industry and we just hired a lawyers kid and a preachers kid for summer help. And 2) working poor in the service industry I've dealt with that realization from richer people a few times, so it kinda blew over my head. Total side note, never been to Uganda yet, but that's on my list of places to visit. From what I've learned about it the social structure is very interesting over there. That and I've read that there are a lot of dangerous animals that would be fun to pet and deal with ....... as long as you don't have anything as vicious as a koala over there. Those things scare me 😭😭

I think a lot of ponderment around class structure, especially from anyone from western society, comes from the fact that we are trained to pretend class doesn't exist. It's just you don't see it unless you're from the bottom/outside. Growing up, even though the public education system said i could be anything, the councilors always told me I was from bad stock and needed to just ride my years out until I was 18 and that I would never be anything but a garbage man, a cook, or a janitor. College was beyond my means, so why should I try? Being poor and/or homeless in america is no different than being in the poorest class or undesirable class in India. You line up the definitions, and they are still the same, just unnamed in "civilized" society homeless then poor then tradesmen then medical and clergy then lawyers and then finally politicians. Class system is inescapable, but since we're taught to pretend it's not there and not real. So when we come across it in stories, it pulls at us. We see it daily, so it resonates with no explanation.
