A second copy could give Elijah's parents some security to keep them alive--which failed. So, if the laptop returns to Huntington, the data might still be found on the cloud. The computer guys from the Montana pack might find a trail to any data on the cloud or have special tech ways to find a computer that is hidden. News of the second gun fire attack may reach the concerned shifter wolves who will run to Elijah.

BTW--while you having us waiting with great interest in reading the graphic details of their consummated love making in the next chapter and whether or not Kage will break Elijah's or his own heart, I am also thinking about long term which you only really left a breadcrumb. As your story develops and goes back and forth in future chapters , what has Elijah learned and what is Elijah to do now when the case is solved and he is freed up? He could likely have to leave town to seize his best opportunity. He has said he cannot see staying at his present job. How will you educate and motivate Elijah ? Could Elijah find a way to work with either his developing and now partner/ love interest Kage--unless he breaks his heart-or with the Montana group who might see they could really use a shapeshifter. Elijah would be a valuable, unique asset to either team as they operate.

I am sure Kage could not disagree more with Elijah about any decency inside him or having any insecurities. One mark of Kage's noble code is that he stops in mid-session after kissing so well to ask Elijah if he really wants to go father. Elijah has already said he can choose who to fuck. I expect the next chapter will start with them joining gloriously--unless interrupted. They both might find the experience life affirming and an act of love. Kage thinks strikers did the hit job , under Huntington's orders, and wanted to kill them since they had not found the laptop and were not needed. Kage reported to his boss and now thinks he will take on Huntington and Elijah will later be safe. Is Kage right? Is someone else involved? In the meantime, Elijah should contact his friends in Montana with this supposition about the hybrid pups and Huntington connection. They can follow up.
