  1. Wow, no thanks. Toronto would need to call in the army again if we got that much. No where to put the damn stuff. It was a Colorado low that kept us from travelling to our annual Christmas party. Lots of freezing rain … damn stuff. I drove in that as a cop, but no way will I unless I have to. Just is not worth the risk. Good to see you, Mac. Hope you're doing okay.
  2. Congrats, Carlos. I wanted write old man, but thought better of it! Ha!
  3. tim is around ... just going through a bad patch. New meds, hopefully there will some improvement for him soon.
  4. That is a wonderful idea, molly. Truly in the spirit of the season.
  5. Have to say I agree. I'd rather just spend Christmas with tim and family. I don't need gifts. Yes, for the little ones, sure. But we are all adults for the most part now. We mainly give homemade things … tim makes fudge and this year we'll make granola for everyone. They all want healthier things, so that's what we'll do. It's the time with people I'm more interested in.

    Killers

Driving is not a right. It is a skill. We are licensed to perform this. But, personally, I think people should be tested more often than once. I think we should have to prove we can still pass the test every two years. We should prove we are skilled enough to maneuver a motor vehicle with others safely on our roads. I learned a lot of things as a cop … and how to drive well was one of them. I read the list of people who have been killed in the city over the last year. It is sad and horrific. We should be ashamed of these numbers. It is time to change and to do better. Be mindful.
  7. I hope you were able to salvage your meal.
  8. Have a good one, Parker.

    The Law

With honesty, respect and compassion we can include and grow our circle of friends and loved ones. I realize I am extremely fortunate in how I am and how I was raised. I didn't suffer and I refused to let others hurt me or disrespect me because of my orientation. But I see what happens to those who are abused or who are deemed different, who did not have the familial support that I did. We have a culture that fear's the different and who needs labels, none of it helps to bring us closer. None of it helps us understand. The only things that do help are listening and compassion. Elias has found someone who wants to hear him and protect him. Having someone who is there, and who listens means so much. Nice chapter, Wayne.

    Elias

Finding them, arresting them, recording the evidence...it never stops. There is always another. I don't understand what drives them. How they can make it okay, in their minds. I used think I understood. But I don't. I'm sorry you lived that. tim did too in a way. No knights saved him either, and he sat in a donut shop at midnight and the place was filled with them. I hope writing this eases it some for you.

    Elias

I dealt with a lot of abusers. It took me all my training to deal with them. There are things I've seen and heard, I will never forget. Ever. But that is nothing that what the victims have to deal with. Because it never goes away. Never. They can push it aside, hide it, but the memories are always with them. Your chapters make me remember. We should all remember, to watch, and most of all listen to your children, all children, and to others who may need help. Thanks, Wayne for bringing this to the fore.
  12. Sweet and charming. I love the innocence and magic. Lovely.
  13. A terrific story. Thanks for highlighting it.

    Trouble

That passion remains at least for me. Logic will rule I think. They know the system and how to make it work.

    Trouble

Very true ... but no matter where they are. .. they are civilians. However, you're right, strangers in a strange land as well.

    Trouble

Former cops are just that, sadly. We know a lot, but we are just civilians. Of course, we still have friends. But things don't normally go well for ex-cops who take the law into their own hands. You do NOT want to end up in prison. But there are parts of your training and knowledge that are hard to turn off. Hopefully our three cops will know how far to push and when to call in a real cop. Good chapter, Wayne.
  17. tim is the cook ... but perhaps some hard boiled egg for the head? I'd like all those veg. It was a lot easier to adapt when I found out I'm diabetic. Vegetables are a saving grace. There are very few we do not eat.
  18. Not sure what you're saying. Is it too healthy for you?

    Healer

The two sides of charity and love ; giving and receiving. The receiver often doesn't realize how important their part in this is. I saw a lot of abused children in my past, and this kindness and understanding from this ex-cop does not surprise me at all.

    Cycle

Be kind to yourself. I see it all too often, this cycle of pain, self-loathing, and disbelief in self. You are so much more than you feel in those moments. People do see you, Thorn. See yourself in their words, in their hugs and smiles. You have much to offer and to still do in this world. Grab what is yours.
  21. timmy congratulations at work. Proud of you, boy.
  22. Lovely … I am glad I put the snow ties on the Jeep.
