Christmas came a day early with this chapter 🎁….thanks for the extra serving Gary, I admit to greedily hoping for a kiss in this chapter but looks like it’ll be next year, lol. Lucas’ happy surprise at his completed home, Lucas realizing that Jubal’s search for the wildings was what kept him from visiting…..To see the biofeedback of pleasure between these two is satisfying. “Thought you might be sick of my company,” Lucas said, looking happier than he’d been the whole way from Bearpaw.” “Not, likely, but it did cross my mind you could have been sick of mine.” “Not likely,” he said with a big grin,” “Lucas’s steady stare” If Jubal only trusted what he saw, he’d believe that his scent was missed as much the scent he missed….every answer to every question is in that stare. “Jubal went slow, and Lucas was right behind him, one hand settled on his shoulder. He bumped against him with each step, before they took the next one.” Jubal’s feelings are transparent, as this story is told from his point of view….we are supposed to believe that Lucas’ feelings are ambiguous, that they could be “just friendship”….oooookayyyy. 👌 🙄 What will happen between Lucas and Jubal now that Lucas is back? This was lovely. Some growing pains after Vann came to live with Caleb and Asa were expected….much as I love Vann’s empathy and maturity, I equally love that he is a normal boy sometimes unable to properly communicate his feelings; Caleb does have to show more than say that Vann is wanted, after all, Marcel, Dante and Duncan were chosen. “He threw in the towel, left the fuzzy hair alone, and named her Gnomie.” I adore the way you fit in her name, lol!! Vann has a definite way with animals, if he doesn’t become a veterinarian, I can see him and Asa in business together. With the close of the main story, Silas’ passing was mourned, it was nice to see the circle of life continue in this epilogue with birth and connection in all ways: familial, platonic, romantic and sexual, speaking of….Caleb and Asa are still in their honeymoon phase so hot sex is the expected norm, their mate connection ensures they will always be the flint to each other’s match. ❤️‍🔥🔥🧨 An enjoyable visit one year out. 🎁

I too speculated on the purpose of shiny man’s questioning and his gaydar, which only made me more angry at his question….if a fly buzzes in the wrong ear, it will be swatted, for this dickwad to hope to bring that kind of trouble to Jubal is a very hateful act, given the times they lived in; I’m actually surprised (and relieved) his speculation was ignored, maybe he’s one to cry gay wolf (pun unintended, lol) and is typically ignored. Gaydar is typically owned by one made like that….for shiny asshole to try to shine that light on Jubal speaks to self hatred, if he is indeed made that way. Either way, that question was not asked out of the goodness of his heart. 🫤

As someone who prefers to keep their own counsel, I was as rankled by the need to feed the gossip mills as Jubal….had his perspective not been skewered by his fearful paranoia, he would have handled the inquiries about the shootout better, he strikes me as someone capable of being respectful yet distant, but Jubal is not in his right mind….he’s a panic attack away from expecting a scaffold and rope brought out to the town square. Fuck that man who asked about sleeping arrangements….there always has to be that one in a gaggle and unfortunately his question hit square into Jubal’s fear of discovery. It’s encouraging that he’s come to appreciate the town almost as well as he does his favorite inhabitant of it. “Was it his fear that kept him squirming like he be sitting bare-assed on a rock the sun made hot enough to cook an egg on?” While reading that was sad as it stated how heightened Jubal’s anxiety was, What a visual, lol!! Wow. I agree with Jubal’s paranoid thinking that Reid may have told Lucas of Jubal’s reluctance to take back his gold to give his friend an indication his strong feelings are returned….what a noble gesture from one so previously territorial; it speaks to Reid’s loyalty just as his earlier behavior spoke to his passion. Pistol. 🩷 What a fitting name for a horse that capably strengthens and defends Jubal as certain as any firearm….not a replacement for Kema but another mare he will have a strong, special bond with. Their trek to locate the wildings was another testament to the intelligence and heartiness of this man….first an architect, now a horse tamer, there’s seems little he can’t do except believe he deserves to be happy. To discover the slain mare and foal was tragic but Jubal and Pistol did what they could to even the odds for the independent herd. Impressive and no doubt necessary work at that time but skinning is a grisly task….using animal’s brains for tanning is my knowledge nugget for today. 😊 Jubal has a dream-to make his own way and be able to find one made like him who can reciprocate his feelings….he thinks he can achieve some of that dream in Bearpaw, little does he know his total heart’s desire lay waiting for him in this little western hamlet. Children are a lot stronger than we give them credit for and Dominic is a perfect example of that….like the psychologist, I’m surprised he isn’t more turned around than he is, given what he witnessed with his parent’s split & his mother’s illness. I’m a big fan of Dominic’s. Jessica and her bitchass ways don’t disappoint, smh…. If Caleb were to guess, he would say the droplet landed exactly where Elijah sported the scar Kage left.” The tear of the heretofore emotionless Cassiel joined the many of mine at the mention of beautiful, dear, sweet, Kage….the embodiment of contradictory forces. ❤️ ☯️ Kage was loved by two in his life, one parental (Cassiel) and one romantic (Elijah) and so deserving of both. (I KNOW who Elijah’s mate has been decreed but for me, it’s always going to be about he and Kage) Elijah is Kage’s soulmate regardless of whom Elijah is meant to be with. 💗 “He will always be with you. He loved you.” Kage will always keep darkness from the door of Elijah and all his loved ones. If we give it a chance, love wins. Every time. ❤️❤️‍🔥💝 Let the healing, recovery and reunion begin.

It was great to hear that Vann’s new brothers took to him without knowing they are brothers, speaking of….Vann knows that Caleb is his father: “….we noticed he took over Hank and Eclipse’s care when he discovered they belonged to Caleb.” Whether it’s a subliminal blood call or empathetic Vann overhearing a conversation he wasn’t meant to and understanding and forgiving, he knows. You did an excellent job imbuing the reader with the ennui Sebastian and Co. felt waiting for Fucktard Feline to strike, as well the fearful anticipation of what is to come. For some reason when Nat, Roberto and Andrew came, I feared one of them was spying for Fucktard Pussyface….guess time will tell. Speaking of pussy: “Asa gagged. There was no multiverse involving him whatsoever where any kind of pussy played a role. Yuck.” This pussy owner found that line very funny, lol. It’s sobering to realize the next time we reconvene, there may be a casualty/casualties we care about….*GULP* 😔 Such is the way of life and war.

I’m sorry that you experienced so much loss in such a short amount of time between your father and Josh. Guilt is a very cruel mistress, she distorts everything that you see & feel, grief was a cagey partner. Your loving family is a gift I can see you treasure….coming through my own time of grief and loss reminded me of the importance of family as well; if you’re lucky, family is the people you are born to, mine is a family of the heart. Your commentary on stories are always enjoyable and often moving. I’m glad you are still here….thank you for sharing. 🎁
