I love your rhetorical questions. Age does play a factor in their relationship and hopefully, when and if those questions are answers, it'll be more clear.

I'm glad you and @Jjeffalch are anti-Miles camp. As a writer, it's validation that I've created a character that can involve my readers emotionally. It works both ways. I've had characters that my readers have adored . Knowing my characters and what's going to happen and having a character like Miles makes me feel good when I get feedback like yours. It means I've done my job. When I write I don't set out to have a character behave a specific way. It just happens. Thanks for engaging and offering your views. Honestly, it helps me grow as a writer because I want to know what it is about a certain character that makes you feel the way you do. That's the wonderful part about a site like this. We authors get the feedback we need.

That is what us youngest siblings call "taking advantage". I have 5 older brothers. Mom and Dad thought I could do no wrong as the only girl and they had seen plenty with the boys. I did my fair share of stupid things as a teen, but didn't get caught. I thank goodness that I was a teen in the pre-social media age. There's no proof.

Trust was not the issue. Miles can't trust Troy with something he doesn't have. He told Troy that he was working on figuring things out. If his memories are scattered and repressed....what is there to share? Bits and pieces don't cut it. You can't explain something to someone else if you can't explain it to yourself.

So...addressing some of this without giving anything away. Yes, their relationship was not healthy and that's a big part of the issue. It's sad to see everyone laying most of the blame on Miles just because he left. There are valid reasons for him doing so which will eventually come out. Troy is just as much to blame. He could see the changes in Miles and yet didn't know what to do about it. Chalk it up to being young and in a first serious relationship. Troy has a traumatic past and seems to bury his head in the sand. Miles isn't abusing Troy. He chose to leave because he knew if he didn't they would be in an even worse place (that's the only hint you guys get). They both deserve better than what their relationship devolved into. When @astone2292 was going through the chapters for me, he ripped me a new one when Miles left. It remains to be seen if he's forgiven me yet. All I can say is stick with it. There's still 14 chapters to go. And an epilogue. Once I write it. I guess I should think about that soon. Damn

When this story was a mere baby seedling in my brain (and it's been there a looong while), I didn't have anything other than a vague idea of a Robbie-type character. Early internal dialogue with myself had the female being a love interest but as the ideas started to gel, it didn't feel right, then Robbie said hello and I was hooked. I do kinda have a knack for gut-wrenching tragedy, don't I? I really don't think about it too much. It just comes to me when I need it. I am enjoying all the speculation as to how Erik will fit into the picture with Miles. It's interesting. Growing up learning how to drive a boat, I was coerced into taking a Coast Guard boating course and that particular tidbit has stuck all these years lol. You've been with me long enough to know that everything will be wrapped up with a bow. It might not be the gift you were expecting though. Kinda like a Yankee Swap at Christmas haha.

There are still a lot of variables that can come into play which will determine whether or not Troy and Miles' path will once again converge. Your mindset at 19 is vastly different than at say 29, 39, or older. Reasons that may have been important can be viewed differently from both Miles' POV or Troy's. It remains to be seen if either one of them can work their way through this and come out happy in the end. Don't forget, they don't have to be happy with each other in order for there to be a happy ending.

Robbie is a seasoned soul who is exactly what Miles needs for where he is in his life. She's pretty awesome.

Yes, I am a bit evil. Robbie is a good one. Miles will always need the assurance that Erik is there if needed.

My dad started with an 18ft ski boat, then went to a 22 foot cuddy cabin and finally settled on a 28 footer that was a tad too big to ski behind. Same thing...I drove the boat long before I could drive a car. And Dad being Dad, not long after I got my learners permit was making me two the 22 footer home from the marina. In a truck with no power steering and power brakes so sensitive that a light breeze through the cab could send you through the windshield. Fun times. But at least I can back a 40 foot trailer filled with band equipment up to the loading dock and keep 'er straight lol.

I like some of my female characters to have some of my traits and also have traits I wish I had. I'm a boy mom, and even though they are grown, its easy to write those typical boy mom characteristics. So far, my favorite female character has been Cassie from A Tattoo for Lex. She definitely inherited my sarcasm.
