I think to spare himself and Erik any hurt, Miles has given Erik the bare minimum. I think Miles knows that given a true chance, Erik could convince him to come home. But then the story would be The Short Road Home. Miles has to grow as a person. Erik has to let him.

I burn too easily to spend my days on a boat although I grew up spending lots of time on my dad's boat, but mostly on the Connecticut River. There were annual trips to Long Island though. Great memories. If I had the means, I wouldn't mind owning a boat, but damn, they are a lot of work!

Erik made a promise not to say anything to Troy and he's a man of his word. Personally, I think it would do Troy more harm than good, especially if he hears news that Miles is doing well and has started an new adventure. Robbie is going to be very good for Miles.

MILES Six months later… The sun rose over the Atlantic as I walked along the beach. I had arrived in Miami two days ago and had been wandering aimlessly, much as I had for the past several months. The biscuits were a lost cause and the house stank for a week. Plus I had two disappointed kids who really were looking forward to egg sandwiches on the biscuits. Also.... Iced? Didn't the icing melt?

Surprisingly, coffee rub does not give meat a coffee taste. I have some that I like to use with pork loin that turns out fantastic. It's all in how it's made.

I would have cried. Incredibly lucky. While steak should only be eaten medium-rare, with the price of beef nowadays, I would've happily consumed them medium. Well done would've needed to be thrown in the meat grinder and used for beef barley soup or something and no amount of wine would've been enough of a consolation.

Excellent observations. I don't think Miles and his therapist had issues connecting. Miles wasn't seeing him very long and Troy noticed that Miles seemed particularly wrung out after his last session so it makes sense that Miles had some sort of breakthrough or epiphany regarding his past. Keep in mind he and Troy are only 18. Teenagers make poor choices. They still have at least 5 or 6 more years before their brains are developed so his behavior may be irrational to us, its not to him. Miles did crumble their relationship and trust. It remains to be seen if it's repairable.

Thanks. Today was a really good day. We visited his mom this morning and then spent the rest of the day with my brother and his wife. They are an island of sanity that is nice to visit. We went to a winery that had a craft fair going on. Despite a few showers, it was a beautiful day. We didn't buy much, some seasoning mixes and some beef jerky. All the rest of the booths were stuff we didn't need. We also went out for ice cream. Now we're at home just relaxing. It's so much calmer now. xo -
