    Chapter 4

Another great chapter, so real in the way you describe the feelings of many students at the start of their uni days.

    Chapter 3

A great chapter with interaction that makes you feel like you're getting to know a new friend, it's written with thought, feeling and skill. That's what makes it such a good read.

    Chapter 2

I love conversations like this between characters, it makes it feel more real, nicely written.

    Chapter 6

Hey this is a very good question which I hadn't considered, obviously I know the answer, so I'll incorporate the answer in a future chapter and make it part of the story. I hope that will be okay with you and the rest of my readers.

    Chapter 1

Just like a house all the best stories have good foundations and you are laying those foundations, I'm looking forward to reading this. 😀

    Chapter 7

@droughtquake there are many reasons for both mobile phones and laptops being discarded,as you point out often it's things that can easily be put right. It goes to show how many of us take things for granted in the throw away world that we currently live in, some enterprising people take advantage of that and put these items to good use.

    Chapter 7

Trust is often one of the big stumbling blocks for homeless people, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Jim has seen something in Jason that makes him feel good about the developing friendship. I think that The Major will be okay if the lads can handle his stubbornness.
  8. For Jim and Beccy the day was like most other days with the exception that they had Jason tagging along, they had made a promise and were keeping an eye on him. Sticking with their usual routine they did the rounds of a few charity shops and other shops that bought and sold second hand electrical goods. Checking the bins that had been filled with items deemed to be too far gone to be resold or faulty. Jim loved tinkering with what they found, sometimes being able to repair and clean them up to a

Thank you @Job for reading and commenting, it's always good to know that readers enjoy a story.

    Chapter 6

Unfortunately as in life there will be some downturns and not so good times, but I can't tell you what's in store as I can't see into the future, lol. 😁

    Chapter 6

Danny is a typical young teenager full of bravado on the outside but scared and quivering like a jelly on the inside, but now he has the chance of a future with Kate and Steve how it turns out will be up to him. He has been lucky and found foster parents who really care, let's hope it turns out well. 😉

    Chapter 6

You're right on everyone of those points, it's the same on this side of the ocean too. From research I know that another commonality is the ex-servicemen that have left the forces and cannot cope, often due to PTSD, find themselves on the streets. Many of them become reliant on drink and drugs as that is their only escape, they deserve better from us yet are often forgotten.

    Chapter 6

I can't say what happens to JJ at this stage, but who knows what will happen. You're right about there being a link between homelessness and fostering in teens, sometimes the homelessness comes first other times the fostering brings about the homelessness, as we both know every case is different. You have picked up on another very point too, a lot of teens could benefit greatly from having good positive role models, but we must also remember that there are different levels of acceptance and it's not always good, sometimes the acceptance is is really tolerance borne out of need. I'm glad that you're still reading and commenting, your comments are helpful and valued. I hope I'm making this a good read for you.

    Chapter 2

Well written and very emotional, I've just gone through half a box of tissues. I think Kleenex are going to make a fortune if you keep on writing like this. I hope we hear more about Fred after he gets to the USA and I hope that there are good things in store for Myles 'adopted' family. I'm looking forward to the rest of this story. Thank you.
  15. John had left the hospital with the lads dropping them off at their apartment in The Northern Quarter, they were tired and had plans to sleep for a few hours. As he was about drive off his mobile phone rang, he knew by the ring tone that it was Jeff. After being briefly told of the nights events he decided against getting changed into his ‘night time’ clothes and drove straight to The Boot. On entering he didn’t notice Beccy and Jim or the young man with them, he made his way straight to th

    Chapter 1

You've set the scene, you've created the atmosphere and it's been done with skill, you have very good descriptive powers that draw me in. My feeling is that this promises to be a good and interesting story. I love the local colloquialisms and dialect they are real and true to the area, it gives it a real feel. I'm looking forward to reading more. The only other comment I can make is that for some who do not understand the dialect you may need to provide translations at the end of chapters, but please do not change the dialect in the story as it is an important part of it.

    Chapter 1

Thank you @avidreadr for commenting, all comments are appreciated. As you rightly say in short stories 'fleshing it out' can occasionally be a bit difficult so some imagination is needed. It's trying to get the balance right between the two, hopefully I'll get better at it with practise and rely on the feedback to let me know how I'm doing. I'm happy that you enjoyed it, I know that I enjoyed writing it. 😀

    Chapter 1

Thank you for your comments @starboardtack and for taking the time to read and comment, it really is appreciated. I'm pleased that you enjoyed the story I'm relatively new to writing and still have a lot to learn, so I'll be taking onboard the points you make, .
  19. It was 9:30 am Tuesday 11th May 2010. Although the sky was clear and the sun shone, the weather was a little cooler than expected for the time of year, especially when the breeze caught you. It was even chillier in the shade Jack Deveraux was glad he was wearing his warm coat. Jack looked up at the imposing Victorian building as he walked the last hundred yards. Built of red brick with an ornamental terracotta facia and a Welsh slate roof, it was four floors in height, two of them are in th
  20. An episode in Jack Deveraux's life, a story of, loss, disappointment, acceptance, self discovery and circumstance. He starts going into a depression, luckily for him there are some good people around. This is how Jack deals with it, could he have done better? I don't know, do you? 25th May 2023. This story has undergone editing and revision to improve the reader experience. It has not altered in any other way.

    Chapter 5

Thank you @Marty for your comments it's good to know that I'm making it interesting, like @droughtquake's comments they help to keep me focused. There is more to Jason and his back story which will begin to unfold as time goes on, as for his feelings toward John/Christian we will find out all in good time. By Gary I think you mean Andy (I had to check incase I'd made an error there, lol) he's new and new people always peek our interest 🤔. I've been doing a lot of reading on site of many different authors work, both well established and newer authors, in the hope of learning something from them and I hope that what I have picked up I'm putting to good use, there is a lot of good reading and good authors on GA to choose and learn from. Intertwining several story lines is just one idea that I'm trying, I just have remember not to overdo it as I don't want to spoil what I believe is a good story. Thank you again for commenting and please feel free to comment at any time.
  22. A beautiful piece of reminiscence, one that I'm sure most of us wish we had for real. Your knack for expressing feelings captures the mood and sets the scene, it's great way to tell a story.
  23. A compelling piece that shows how events that we have no control over can too easily consume us. We don't know if the driver is still with us or not, but wether intended or not this piece contains a message and a lesson for all of us still here. Don't assume, ask the question and talk with others not to them don't ignore the real issue. That's one good way of keeping others from their cliff top. Thank you for this thought provoking piece.
  24. Short piece that reminds us how much we rely on our health services and the dedication of the staff, where would we be without them? A nice piece that reminds us to never give up.

    The Bench (Short)

There is a lot said and more unsaid, I feel that it's done in a way that draws you in. The fact that there is no real end may be a disappointment to some but that in itself also says a lot. As I see it there could be many different endings to this short but left open it lets the reader to create there own, for me I can see the feelings that Brian has for Mick but it's not about that it's leading up to Mick's own way of saying goodbye to the past and letting go, by doing that he can see a future and live in it. I may be wrong but that's my interpretation, I like it including the open ending.
