Chapter 1 - A Runaway at Christmas
Clancy59 commented on Bill W's story chapter in Chapter 1 - A Runaway at Christmas
What a lovely explanation of Santa/St. Nicholas/Sinter Klaus/etc. I wish kids who are at ‘that age’ could hear it and get an understanding. On second thought, it would be nice if some adults could hear this and start to act better! -
Yes, they’re going through a hell of a time right now, but Stephen knew about it when he married Timothy. He did so with his eyes wide open. You do that if you truly love someone. Stephen is correct. That’s a part of the vows for a reason. It’s easy to stick around for the fun, easy times. The times when the other person is going through a trauma, whether by illness or misfortune, is when your love and support is really needed and appreciated. Too many people simply walk away when the going get difficult. They aren’t willing to put in the effort to keep the relationship alive. Stephen is proving just how much he truly loves Timothy by the ways he helps and supports him throughout this mess. Not only has he taken care of Timothy’s physical (I.e; food, shelter, etc) and emotional needs, he has also helped by digging down and sleuthing out the answers to the mystery of AM’s and Mom’s behavioral issues. Yep. Stephen loves Timothy without a doubt.

That one was so funny!

Totally not what I was expecting, although I didn’t know WHAT I was expecting. Terrific story. And, even though it’s not a Christmas song, Lorena McKennitt has such a wonderful voice. We’ve been fans for several years. I’m really enjoying this series!

Yes, that basement sounds terrific! That ‘doctor’ is not helping Mom. How did they find this guy? He is prolonging and exacerbating the issue. Timothy needs to discuss the situation with AM’s doctor (isn’t he the Head of the Psychology Department at the University?) and maybe think about a malpractice case against this charlatan, up to the point of losing his license. I’ll bet that he didn’t just know the boys who attacked AM, I’d bet he is one of them! It’s in his best interest to keep this issue at a pitch fever with both AM and her mother at the ends of their nerves and on the verge of having to be committed. They need to get Mom away from him pronto.

Well, that’s a problem as we don’t get Netflix. 😢 -

At least I know what filk is! How many people can say that? I have heard about it, but don’t know which network airs it. Can you tell me? Can I see Season 1 to catch up, somehow? Hubby might watch, also. Sometimes, these shows catch his attention. If I had any say, she would not get a tat, but then again, I am not a fan of the so-called ‘art’. I’ve spoken to too many people who regretted having done it later in life. -
That’s why I said ground rules had to be set first and there had to be an informed supervisor there. Certain topics HAVE to be OFF the table!

Very cute. Very loving Uncle to drop everything at the drop of a hat and run to the rescue. Wanna bet she really does get the tattoo? Interesting filk with the video. I’ve never seen Witcher, but it looks like my kind of story! -
I loved the idea of the puzzle ring and how he received each part from someone after unconsciously defending Tate against any negative talk. I suspected the wires would make a ring, but the description of a ‘wire’ threw me off, as I was picturing a long piece wire, not a circlet. It was a lovely way to make Damien realize just how much he really does love Tate. I also loved how you tied the Labors of Hercules into the quest, not only with his middle name, but with the various place names throughout the story. Hesperides Avenue, Hippolyta Avenue, Diomedes Arms, etc.

I agree that the visit needs to be supervised. Mom cannot be allowed to bring up sensitive subjects while AM is still in a fragile state. And she is. Progress may have been made, but it wouldn’t take much to send her over the edge again. I don’t know that Mom’s doctor needs to be there, however. As long as she is truly aware that her behavior at this visit will determine the possibilities for future visits, it should help. Ground rules have to be set, especially for permissible topics of discussion. Also, the supervisor will have to be on the alert for ‘dangerous’ topics that would be harmful to AM’s progress. I’m not going to say everything will be great, but I will give this visit an optimistic and hopeful thumbs-up 👍 for this visit.

OK. I’ll admit it. I don’t get the reference to Zeb, although the name rings a bell. I just don’t don’t know the connection.

I hope @CLJobe reads this. He always includes chickens and goats in his stories!

Being a tease is still no excuse for those boys to attack her, I don’t care how angry they were. People can get angry. Fine. That doesn’t mean you can retaliate. I understand these were teenagers who didn’t have complete control of their emotions or hormones, and therefore, reactions. They still had no right to harm another human being. They must be held accountable for their actions. However, the statute of limitations will probably prevent that from happening, unless something like the #MeToo movement gets involved somehow.
-
Agreed. “No” means “No.”. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who think that “No” means “Well, no, but not really. I just have to say it because…”. Too many people are too self-centered and focused on their own satisfaction to be aware of what they are truly doing to the other person.
-
I’m still a little surprised the papers didn’t have a little more regarding the identity of those involved. After all, those boys were wanted for a criminal act. News media certainly never seems to shy away from showing victims, either. Hopefully, this is the key to helping AM. Good for Dad getting Mom help. She obviously needed it. He must have done quite a lot of talking/arguing with her to get her to agree, because it won’t work if she is unwilling to cooperate.

Lodge? Sounds like some kind of resort! It sounds incredible! (Although I could do without the animal heads!) However, she’s going to need more than a housekeeper—she’ll need a couple of additional support staff just to keep things organized on a daily basis, let alone if, and when, she has guests! Yes, with some small renovations to convert this from a giant ‘man cave’ to an actual home, AM will be more than comfortable here. However, you know she’ll hate it for a couple of reasons. 1) She won’t have the big city to flounce around in. 2) She won’t have her ‘friends’ to show off in front of. 3) Timothy arranged this. Is Mr. Amos the caretaker? He seems to do a good job, if so. I saw Timothy and Steve’s reaction when they saw the wine cellar. I understand there is quite a fortune invested there, both in the wine and in the facility, but I don’t quite get the reaction. I know you will explain it in the next chapter or two. Timothy was right to move AM without notifying everyone, even if they get angry about it. John and Eva may feel betrayed as medical professionals, but they lost that right when they didn’t back him against his mother. I don’t blame him for not wanting to hear/see what her reaction was. She needs to calm down and look at this with a cool temperament. Sounds like Dad is coming around, though. I didn’t understand why he seemed to turn on Timothy after supporting his decisions before. Did Mom ‘guilt’ him that he wasn’t supporting AM enough? BTW, did Donnie come to Timothy and tell him Randy and his Mom would be moving to the farm?
-
I agree. I thought Eva was also in the medical field, although I’m not sure which one. As medical professionals, I was astounded at their lack of support for Timothy and his efforts to get AM the psychiatric help she so obviously needs. Mom obviously, also, needs help in realizing how AM is manipulating the people around her and get over the guilt of whatever happened that allowed the supreme selfish, self-centered behavior to blossom.

A Partridge in a Pear Tree
Clancy59 commented on Valkyrie's story chapter in A Partridge in a Pear Tree
I kinda had an advantage. I’ve been a Holmesologist since I was a kid. When we read Hound of the Baskervilles in a high school English class, I never opened the book. The teacher quickly realized I knew the book and Holmes lore better than she did! -
A Partridge in a Pear Tree

This was an adorable story! I love that Partridge the Cat was stuck in a Pear Tree. Too bad David was, too! Sounds like Kevin and Joey have a new BFF, and so do LaShawn and David. Kevin was quite clever in giving the clues to the problem and his location and Shonda was clever to have made the connection (and so was I. I figured it out before Shonda did! 🤗) Kevin must be a real Holmesologist. I’m looking forward to more of these stories. Will different people be contributing?- 43 comments

I think Timothy was smart to do this without notifying his parents, especially his mother. AM will be going ballistic enough without adding Mom’s arsenal to the mix. I don’t get Eva and John. A person can be psychologically ill without being physically ill. Just because AM doesn’t have any physical medical problems (good for her!) doesn’t mean she doesn’t need the psychiatric treatment. Her selfish behavior has gone on for so long that it has become ingrained into her being to the point of being abusive of those around her. Mom is an enabler. They both need some serious help.
-
Randy needs to get away from Timothy’s family. That is not a good place for him right now. Whether it would be better for him to stay at the farm or go to Timothy and Steve’s is yet to be determined. Mom could have easily gotten a cab or Uber to the hospital without Dad or Eva knowing and snuck into AM’s room when the nurses weren’t aware. They aren’t there to be gate keepers. Timothy probably didn’t expect his mother to so persistent and sneaky in getting in to see her. I am very upset with Timothy’s family. They had been supporting him. They saw how AM had been acting and knew it was uncalled for. They knew he had worked to get her her inheritance. Now, suddenly, they are acting like he is evil incarnate and that he is abusing his ‘control’ for his own benefit. He definitely needs to get her under an independent psychiatric care to get control of her psychotic tendencies. He’s going to have to be certain that there will be no way his mother can claim the psychiatrist was coerced by him, because that is exactly what she will do. His family is going to have to do a lot of groveling and make a lot apologies by the time this is all over.
