We find out more about Marvin and Kent's background especially Kent's. I have known twins who are each other's best friends but I can't say it was to the degree Ken and Kent's was. I wonder how common that is.

Here is the main difference I see the previous crew was a military crew and acted accordingly the aliens probably saw them as a threat.Here they will have to deal with Mickey and perhaps the Gremlin after a short time they'll probably be thinking 'WTF"? they'll probably say "Go,go,just go and don't come back"
