  1. I think Dean will talk to his friends. Although his parents are sensible people, they may find it difficult to comprehend James is abusing their son. I'm sure he can be a charming and convincing bastard when he wants. My main worry is that Dean's friends will decide to take the law into their own hands when dealing with James and get into a world of trouble.
  2. I can understand Coy is doing this for all of the best reasons, but even well meant deeds can backfire. There could be all sorts of reasons Mitch would like to avoid Will and only he knows what they are.

    Home Truths

What I like about this series is it's gritty realism. Joey, like a lot of people, has issues that can't just be solved by falling in love. He will need to get professional help before all of his friends and family just give up, having told him the same things over and over again.

It's getting rough now. As they approach the end of the Pass, fewer dragons are available to fight and Thread falls in less predictable ways. Quite a few riders and dragons will be badly injured or killed. Both D'gar and S'brin realise they aren't indestructible now, but it will still be a massive shock.

It must be very worrying for him. He's seen enough now to know it's a real possibility Herebeth might not be fully fit again and the dragon healers will always tend towards the pessimistic as they don't want to give anyone false hope.
  6. Pat Barker's Regeneration trilogy is set during WW1 and the main character is bi. It's one of the few books that can set me off crying.
  7. Great start, right on the middle of the unfolding drama. Looks as if although Joey's two years older, he still puts his foot in it.
  8. What a great story. I've been eagerly awaiting updates every day. So glad you have decided to carry on with a sequel. They've all come a long way since the rather carefree beginning, but I'm sure there will be plenty more drama in their lives.

Made me chuckle writing it too.

‘Never seen a Fall as bad as that before,’ N’dru said, as the Wing assembled for dinner. ‘I have, once. Almost in the same area, too.’ I’grast looked up to the ceiling as he tried to pinpoint the memory. ‘Back in thirty-four, I reckon. Anyway, it wasn’t the Fall that was the problem. It was the sharding storm.’ R’feem looked grim. ‘Bad day,’ he said, glancing towards D’gar, then to the empty seat further down the table. ’N’rir, I’grast. Fill the cups, please.’ D’gar had been assur

    Chapter 36

Sounds as if the management know something about Aiden, if they are being sympathetic when he takes time off, yet coming down hard on anyone else who is late. I’m wondering if he has issues or problems of his own. Not that it excuses his behaviour, but some people hide with a bottle of pills and some lash out. Tom is a good guy. At least Jason has one friend on his side at work.

    You Did What?

Joey gets himself too wound up about things. His imagination is now going to go to town, working out who Anthony was and why Jack kept the card.

    Chapter 3 Willard

Despite saying he won't mention Mitch's name at the mill, I'm wondering if Coy will somehow slip up.
  14. So glad this story was recommended, as otherwise I might not have found it. Reading it has given me an insight into Zen Buddhism and in the hands of this writer, the information becomes a natural part of the story.
  15. It’s good that Joey and Dean are getting along again. Joey is right not to attend the funeral. It would only cause a scene. Yes, Shaun's parents have banned him for all the wrong reasons, but it's their loss. They may never figure out that it was their poisonous attitudes which helped to drive Shaun to do what he did. Actually, they probably won’t - they'll find a scapegoat, most probably Joey - and convince themselves it was all down to his bad influence.
  16. Couple of new stories in the pipeline, one a supernatural mystery, the other a fantasy story I wrote a while ago, but I’m re-editing and updating. Plus I’ll be submitting a couple to the next anthology.
  17. When Shaun sent that message about doing something that would haunt Joey, I worried he might be going to attempt suicide. Sadly, he succeeded. This was a tough chapter to read.
  18. It was hard to believe how different his life was now. Six months had passed since Shrovetide. When Craig had sent the email tendering his resignation - with slightly shaking hands - James had been there to support him. He’d also provided a strong cup of coffee to help him get over the shock of actually doing it. The reply he’d received had been a very standard, ‘thanks for all you’ve done and wishing you well in your future career.’ Its impersonal nature had made him even more glad he’d fi

Both of them are becoming a sensible, mature pair and an asset to the Wing.

    Shrovetide

You never know. When I wrote the original anthology story, I never thought there would be a sequel. Sometimes it’s good to revisit characters further down the line.

    Shrovetide

Shrovetide is mad. In one documentary I watched about it, there was an incident where two men attached an electric fence to some railings to stop the other team getting to the ball. It really is an experience you never forget.

    Shrovetide

Never give up! Part of the reason I wrote this story is to deal with the problems of being older, having a few failed relationships behind you and not feeling attractive any more. Also that love can blossom in unexpected circumstances.

He’d had worse weekends on emergency cover. He’d also had a lot better. Sunday had started off promising; no emergencies first thing, meaning he went along to one of his own sites and sorted out a few of the little jobs that weren’t worth setting aside a whole day for. The problem with weekends was the cinemas were open by ten-thirty, meaning there was even less time than usual to do any work. Still, he fixed the fire alarm macro issue, then had a coffee from the shop in the foyer while he updat
  24. Shaun is definitely having a breakdown, but part of the blame has to go on his upbringing and family attitudes. He didn't dare to come out, then his best friend does and worse still, gets together with the boy he's idolized for years. Sure, he's behaved in a despicable manner, but it probably seemed perfectly reasonable, given his state of mind. Now, even worse, his parents know he's gay. Joey isn't naturally violent, but he's being pushed too far. Given that Mrs Winters now knows he’s gay as well, she's bound to get vindictive, and probably will blame him for 'turning' her son gay as well.

    Chapter 1

Very nicely done, with a light at the end of the tunnel moment at the end.
