Chapter 14 Crossing the Bridge
Mawgrim commented on Headstall's story chapter in Chapter 14 Crossing the Bridge
What a pity it has taken them both so long to be able to communicate. But that's how it is when you get older and especially, if like Will, you have faced the prospect of death. All those things couldn't have been said when they were younger. Good job there's a second chance for them both.- 70 comments

Dani has faced his fears in this chapter and has triumphed. Let’s hope his confidence doesn’t lead him into danger when dealing with the criminals.

Whether this prompts you to write more, or if it just remains as a single scene, this is powerful writing. Very visual too. I can almost see it as the opening shot of a film or TV drama.

Chapter 1 - Seeking Justice
Mawgrim commented on Bill W's story chapter in Chapter 1 - Seeking Justice
An excellent Halloween story, spooky, yet realistic. Scott's ghost would fall into the category of spirits who feel the need to stay around in order to set something right; in this case to help the detective to find his murderer. I guess he stayed around after that because he had become attached to Detective Jeremy and maybe saw in him the father figure he didn't have. -
Not too much of a wait as I’m just finishing up a (relatively) short 6 chapter story about Benden Weyr after all the others disappear. Zalna is the narrator for that one.

First Anthology Entry in Years: Spirited Holiday Engagement
Mawgrim commented on W_L's blog entry in Life is worth an entry
I really enjoy reading about the different customs in other cultures, particularly when it is woven so well into a story (as yours did) so it doesn’t become infodump. -
2021 Fall Anthology: An Unconventional Gift *NOW LIVE*
Mawgrim commented on Renee Stevens's blog entry in Gay Authors News
Interesting to see so many different takes on a theme. Looking forward to reading the next batch of stories/poems. -
I knew that was going to be an important scene and wanted to get it just right. Looks like I succeeded! There are more Pern stories to be told. It's just a pity it takes so long to write them. I average about 3000-6000 words in a week, then I leave it for a while before editing. So it's not as quick a process as I'd like.

To answer the first paragraph, it's partly down to custom and practice. Prior to each Threadfall, T'ron met with his Wingleaders to discuss tactics, weather etc. They then met with their Wingseconds to pass on the information and decide how best to deploy their Wing. He's doing the same now. It's also to do with secrecy. In 'Dragonflight', even after Lessa wakes, she's not really in the public eye until she leads the Weyrs forward that night. T'ron's instinct is to discuss the plan with his fellow Weyrleaders initially, only bringing his Wingleaders in when they get to the stage of actually planning the big move. I was teary as I wrote the scene at the ice lake. I’m glad I succeeded in making it as poignant and moving as I wanted it to be. I will definitely be continuing, firstly with a few shorter stories, then onto a third part, taking up from where 'Gone Away, Gone Ahead' left off. Thanks for your comments, as always.

Unfortunately D'gar won't be privy to any of them, although Weyr gossip will do its worst.

Snow covered the ground at the Weyr, although the icy winds had dropped. It was a still, calm, bright day. The last day of the fiftieth Turn of the Eighth Pass. Tomorrow, the first Turn of the Interval began. Two hundred odd Thread-free Turns lay ahead of Pern. In the sevenday since M’rell’s party, D’gar had spent some time with J’rud. He’d not realised how much he needed someone to talk with about the past. About S’brin. Someone who just understood, without any explanation. J’rud was a goo

An unusual and unique story blending ancient Taoist rituals with cutting edge modern technology. Well worth a read, even if you don't think you'd like this type of story.

A really interesting story in the way it mixes ancient rituals with modern technology. I agree with @DamnDogs that this short story could easily develop into a novel. Well written, descriptive and poignant.

Lovely story. It's so good to read about supportive and understanding families.

A short story in which the possibility of recovering images in an unconventional way is explored. Who knows, in a few years time, this may become science fact rather than science fiction.

Chapter 1 - Precious Memories
Mawgrim commented on Bill W's story chapter in Chapter 1 - Precious Memories
A lovely story. Must be terrible to lose all of your belongings in a fire. One of my friends has no photos of his childhood for the same reason. I like the idea of someone being able to capture images from their brain. It may not be possible right now, but who knows, in the future this might become a possibility.- 27 comments

So glad those two have got together. Mitch had time to think through what he intended to do now he's been given a new lease of life and it looks like he and Will are heading for a happy ever after ending. What a feel good chapter!

Well, 'Threadfall' is almost at an end. It was originally intended as a short prequel to 'Gone Away, Gone Ahead' and has ended up far longer. There are a few more short stories to come in the 'Dragonriders of Pern' fanfic series and hopefully a longer third part, taking up from where 'Gone Away, Gone Ahead' finished. Finishing a story is always slightly sad, but it gives the mind an opportunity to start thinking about new ideas as well. Coming soon: 'Hidden Secrets' - A murder mystery with paranormal elements, set in an old cinema. Should be ready to post in a few weeks. Unlike the Dragonriders fanfics, which I usually write in episodic fashion, keeping just a few weeks ahead of posting, I've had to plan this out and complete it, due to all the plot twists. For Dragonriders fans, look out for 'Empty, Open, Dusty, Dead' - After the other five Weyrs disappear overnight, Zalna, a junior weyrwoman at Benden, tries to figure out what has happened. She is sure Weyrleader N'rax must be hiding something.

Another atmospheric chapter, with plenty of plot. The end makes me wonder if Giacomo is being pressurised by someone older than him - maybe the two teenagers who Enzo saw wrecking the restaurant earlier?

It's a pity really. If only there'd been a few more months...

I always think that serves to illustrate the different mindsets of dragons and people. They tend to assume that unless a human asks about something he or she isn't interested.
-
I've been looking forward to this part as well. Lessa was at Fort Weyr for at least a month before she recovered sufficiently to be able to talk to T'ron and Mardra. Ramoth would obviously have been talking with the other dragons, too during that time.

D’gar woke abruptly. In his mind’s eye, he could still see the scene; injured dragons and riders, an old man with a badly Threadscored face. A feeling of utter helplessness. It wasn’t exactly like a dream; at least, not one of his usual dreams. Everyone in it was unfamiliar. And yet, it had left him with a sense of panic. Thread was coming. There weren’t enough dragons to fight it. Did you feel that? Herebeth asked. What? Had there been an earth tremor or something. The whole Weyr

It’s lovely to see another story set around Ravello. I, for one, will never tire of the descriptions of the town and its countryside.

I can see why Aiden needs to get away and start afresh. Nathan's refusal to communicate with Jason could be for a number of different reasons. Who knows what his dad has told him about Jason? Or he may be under threat of disinheritance. I look forward to finding out the twists, turns and lies that have been told.
