Excellent use of the prompt. -
They drove to Cassie’s Cabin in James’s Range Rover, which dealt with the potholes far better than Craig’s car had done. Craig had the job of safely transporting a bottle of wine; apparently everyone took their own alcohol as the premises wasn’t licensed. The cabin was as quirky as he’d imagined. I hate teachers like that. We had a bullying teacher in the class when I was about 10. He always picked on the kids whose parents wouldn’t make a fuss and he'd do things like throw them across the room, pin them against the wall and slap their faces etc. Everyone was terrified, but back then in the 1970's teachers could get away with that kind of stuff. Glad Norman Bates won't.

Luckily, in the UK we don't get much hot weather and when we do, it only lasts for a few days. This week it got up to around 29 degrees centigrade and didn't cool down much at night. Very few private homes here have AC as you'd only use it a few days each year, so it's the old standby of opening windows at night and using fans, plus drawing blinds to keep the sun from heating up rooms too much. I tend to favour shorts and a loose linen or cotton shirt to keep the air moving. It's back down to a more normal 20 degrees now and we've probably had our share of summer as August usually tends to be cloudy and cooler.

A memorable story with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. Romance, family drama, cute dogs, loathsome villains; it has everything to keep you thinking, 'just one more chapter tonight.'

You're right. M'rell was in need of some help. Unfortunately, neither he nor S'brin could ever be accused of over thinking an issue before leaping in. D'gar will certainly re-assess his life and relationships after this setback.

Sad, but true. D'gar did what he considered to be 'the right thing' in breaking up with J'rud. He knew Zemianth would rise to mate while he was away, but he expected S'brin would be equally responsible. Plus he doesn’t want to pick a fight with M'rell because the man's an emotional mess right now.

Like all good stories, it has a basis in fact. When my mother was a little girl, her father rented a house in rural Ireland. She remembered vividly seeing the bedroom door handle turning most nights and how scared all the kids were. Her mother, who was quite a sensible, practical woman, was terrified after having seen something she'd never talk about. On certain nights, they heard the noise of a cart going past, faster and faster until it crashed on a bend in the road. Apparently, this was the ghost of a local farmer, whose horses used to get him home after a drinking session, until one night something spooked them into bolting. The cart crashed, killing him and both the horses. I agree with you about the blood and gore not being as frightening as something unseen.

What a rollercoaster ride of a chapter. The building tension, the action, wondering if Bruce had died in the line of duty. Then the relief and declarations of love. A perfect ending. The fact that Marc Greene considered his brother as expendable took his already chilling personality to a new level. He's so much of a psychopath he doesn't really have any empathy or feelings towards other human beings.

The realization of what has happened hits all at once, although on a second read there are little clues of foreboding set up.

Oh no. Just as Lukas and Set seem to be reaching, well, something, the shit hits the fan. Brilliant description of the confusion of battle. I could almost taste the dust. It's left me feeling edgy and worried for both Seb and Lukas.

It's a good one. I used to take my work phone on holiday just so I didn't have to trawl through 300 odd emails when I returned. Not a healthy way to live.
