The reason the boys don't have one at college is because they didn't want to pay a cable bill when they would hardly ever watch it. And maybe they do only have one tv set, seeing Mac's father is so frugal.
-
Maybe that's because the boys are away to college, or maybe the second TV is in the master bedroom.

Chapter 37 – Have a Very Merry Christmas When we woke up on Christmas morning, Devin and I went downstairs to see what we were going to have for breakfast. “Wow! This is different. You slept until 9:00 this morning,” Mom quipped. “Come on, you said the same thing last year. I slept later because I was tired. Is there anything to eat?” “We were tempted to wake you up earlier, like maybe 6:00 or 7:00, similar to what you used to do to us,” Pa added, “but you used to wa

Allergists find the most common allergies are: pollen, peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs. wheat, sesame, dust mites, insect stings, and mold.

No need to tell me about needing doctors when you get older. It seems as if I have a doctor's appt. every week, be it the GP, internal medicine, ophthalmologist, urologist, proctologist, neurologist, surgeon, or oral surgeon. I recently had one procedure where I ended up staying in the hospital overnight and now I've got another procedure coming up in November where I might have to stay overnight as well. And when in comes to allergies, the last time my allergist did a patch test my back looked like a checkerboard with a few extra squares colored in.

Whoa, that is a shocker and seems to go against any logical reasoning that I can come up with. I'm certainly glad that neither I, nor any of my family, live in Quebec. -
Steve, that's what happens when you live in the remote north (often referred to as Canada). I live in Georgia (US not the country) and yesterday it was 82 F (27.8 C) and this morning it's 65 F (18.3). We seldom get snow, and if we do it only lasts a day or two before it melts, but we do occasionally get hit by hurricanes, such as Hurricane Helene which just went through here and caused quite a bit of damage. Btw, good luck with that cold.

If you're lucky enough to have a child or children, you'll want to find the best pediatrician available in your area to take them to so the pediatrician can give them routine checkups to monitor their health and progress as they're growing up, as well as to treat them when they're sick or injured. -

Pediatrician comes from the Greek words "pais" (child) and "iatros" (doctor or healer). Pediatrics (adjective) is a combination of those words and means "healer or doctor of children". The suffix "iatrics" also comes from the Greek and is used to form nouns that mean "healing" or "the medical practice of. Therefore, pediatrics is "the medical practice of healing children", and since the Greek root word "ger" means "old people", geriatrics means "the medical practice of healing old people". -
Ascetics may withdraw from the world for their practices or continue to be part of their society, but typically adopt a frugal lifestyle, characterized by the renunciation of material possessions and physical pleasures, and also spend time fasting while concentrating on the practice of religion, prayer, and/or meditation.
-
I guess that means the Amish live an ascetic lifestyle.

Yes, Val, we need you well. Take care of yourself and I hope to see you back online soon. Your an important cog in the GA universe. Wishing you the best and a speedy recovery, Bill

An ambivert is someone who exhibits traits of both introverts and extroverts, and can switch between the two depending on the situation: Adaptability Ambiverts can easily adjust their behavior to fit the person or situation. For example, they might enjoy a party one night but prefer to be alone the next. Social skills Ambiverts are often good communicators and listeners, and can be comfortable in social settings. They can also be peacemakers who can bring reason to heated situations. Empathy Ambiverts are often highly empathetic and can understand the needs and emotions of others. Balance Ambiverts can balance their introverted and extroverted sides, allowing them to connect with a wide range of people. Leadership and negotiation skills Ambiverts can be good leaders and negotiators because they can relate to people on different levels. Some say that most people are actually ambiverts, and that the term "ambivert" is a more accurate description than "introvert" or "extrovert". However, others argue that the term is an oversimplification of personality traits.
-
The main difference between an ambivert and an omnivert is that an ambivert is balanced between introversion and extroversion, while an omnivert can display both traits to extremes.

I'm looking forward to the tribute to Comicality on what would have been his 50th birthday.

As @Myr said, banal is boring or lacking in originality, and examples of banal might be making banal comments about the weather, a banal plot in a book, TV show, or movie, or music that is banal and repetitive. It might also be a banal speech that is filled with clichés, or a banal conversation about every day routines. In other words, things that are as dull as dishwater.

dilettantism - Word of the Day - Tue Oct 1, 2024
Bill W commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
I'm sorry that this is late, but I spent Oct. 1st in the hospital for a simple procedure and had to remain overnight for observation. A dilettante is a person who takes up an art, activity, or subject merely for amusement, especially in a desultory (lacking in a plan, purpose, or enthusiasm) or superficial way. -
Take time to read all of the Grammar and Technical Writing Tips section of the Writing Resources tab, after clicking on the Writing link at the top of the page. After that, you can practice your writing by submitting short stories using the various weekly prompts. After you've written a short story using a prompt, submit a link to your story in the comment section below the prompt that you used. Read the feedback you get on that story, because most should be positive suggestions that you can use to improve your future submissions. Over time, if you heed the advice that is offer and you continue doing this, you will keep improving your skills as a writer. If English is not your native language, like others have suggested, watch movies and TV shows to get the cadence and nuance of the English language. From what I have read, it's one of the most difficult languages to learn, not including the Chinese language.

A wonderful and touching tribute to a great author and a terrific friend. I believe Tim has shared the feelings that a great many of us are still feeling as we deal with the loss of Carlos. I hope Carlos is able to realize how much he's missed and what a great hole he left in many of our lives, now that he is no longer with us and we will never be able to read any of his new stories or chat with him again.

Tim, I'm sorry that I didn't read this before, but I was having trouble dealing with the loss of Carlos. I struggled getting through my own story, since the loss was so raw and it was too painful thinking about the fact that he was no longer with us to get feedback from. I found this letter to be not only heartfelt, but very touching, and it reminded me about how much Carlos has been missed and will continue to be missed in the future. Well done and thank you. I'm certain Carlos was proud and deeply touched as he read this from the great beyond.

Most people who see an osteopath do so for help with conditions that affect the muscles, bones and joints, such as: lower back pain. uncomplicated neck pain (as opposed to neck pain after an injury such as whiplash) shoulder pain and elbow pain (for example, tennis elbow). -
