  1. Are you going to tie the two together, sort of like what you did with the Anthology, In too Deep: Week 1 and Week 2, and label the two Carlos Hazday Tribute: Part 1 and Part 2?
  2. Psychologist comes from the Greek/Latin word psyche (life/sole, mind and spirit) and logos/logia (the study of). The word was first used in the Renaissance by the Croatian humanist Marko Marulić in his book Psichiologia de ratione animae humanae (Psychology, on the Nature of the Human Soul). The earliest known reference to the word psychology in English was in 1694 in The Physical Dictionary by Steven Blankaart. Psychiatry literally means the 'medical treatment of the soul' (ψυχή psych- 'soul' from Ancient Greek psykhē 'soul'; -iatry 'medical treatment' from Greek. It was first coined by the German physician Johann Christian Reil in 1808. Ancient specialty in psychiatry can be traced in Ancient India. The oldest texts on psychiatry include the ayurvedic text, Charaka Samhita. Some of the first hospitals for curing mental illness were established during the 3rd century BCE.
  3. I worry about certain things that are not in my control, such as a wild or forest fire, a hurricane, or a blizzard, especially if it might affect where I live or my loved ones live. @Valkyrie didn't we have the Carlos Hazday event already?
  4. Building on @sandrewn explanation above: The main difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist is that psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication, while psychologists are not medical doctors and usually can't prescribe medication Focus Psychiatrists typically treat more complex mental health conditions than psychologists, especially ones that require medication or medical treatments. Psychologists focus on the psychological and environmental factors that impact well-being. Collaboration Psychologists and psychiatrists often collaborate closely and may see the same patients. For example, a psychologist might perform testing on a patient, and a psychiatrist may prescribe medications and manage the patient's medical situation. Training Psychiatrists are trained in both medicine and mental health, while psychologists focus solely on mental health. Psychiatrists attend medical school, which typically includes four years of medical school and two years of preclinical training. Psychologists typically need to complete a doctoral degree, which is either a PhD or PsyD. Treatment Psychiatrists can use a variety of treatments, including medications, talk therapy, and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Psychologists typically treat mental health conditions with psychotherapy (talk therapy).
  5. and @Myr hasn't even gotten to proctologist yet.
  6. The word "otolaryngologist" comes from the Greek words otos (ear), rhino (nose), laryngo (windpipe), and logos (science). The term "otorhinolaryngology" is the full word, but "otolaryngology" is the shorter, more commonly used form.
  7. I'm currently seeing a urologist about an extreme hydrocele (HI-droe-seel) condition. The problem has been drained three times, but the condition keeps returning, so I'm going in for a surgical correction in a couple of weeks.
  8. A hematologist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating blood disorders. Hematology is a medical specialty that studies the blood, blood-forming organs, and blood-related diseases. 9. The word hematologist comes from the Greek word haimo (blood) and the Latin word logia (the study of). The term "hematology" was first recorded between 1805 and 1815. For those of you that are old enough, you may have seen the film "Hemo the Magnificent" when you were in school. It told all about the circulatory system.
  10. Rheumatology is a medical specialty that focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions that cause inflammation in the muscles, joints, bones, and internal organs. 11. From the Greek work rheuma (flowing current) and the suffix ology (the study of). The term "rheumatology" was coined in the 1940s by Bernard Comroe and Joseph Lee Hollander.
  12. Please, people, if you're able send a few dollars to Mom Comicality's GoFundMe account, because she's having a really rough go of it. I'm not financially that well off myself, but I've found a way to slip her some money a couple of times. It's partially in memory of a great guy, a fellow author and many of you have enjoyed his work, and his mom who's finding it difficult to make ends meet without her son's contributions to the monthly expenses. I know things are tight for most of you, including myself, but I'm sure there are some of you out there who can spare a few dollars, pounds, francs, marks, or whatever. This is a great community and I'd like to see everyone come together to help out the mother of one of our founding members and a guy that was always there to help whoever he could. If it looks as if I'm down on my knees pleading with you, it's because I am, for Mom Comicality's sake.
  13. I know what you're going through, Steve, because it seems like all I've done lately was go to doctor's appointment to be prodded and poked, and not in a fun way either. The pulmonologist is one of the few specialists I haven't seen, but I hope your situation improves for you.
  14. I guess all of t he official greeters beat me to the punch, but I'd still like to welcome all of the new members. This is a great place, with plenty to read for nearly all tastes, so enjoy. And don't forget to leave comments or click on one of the emojis is you like something. That's all the payment the authors receive for their effort.

    Chapter 38 S2

Thanks, Chris. I thought it would be romantic as well, but maybe this group would have been happier if they'd just handcuffed themselves together or if Devin had transitioned into Cupid and shot Mac with an arrow. All kidding aside, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    Chapter 38 S2

Well, I suppose if you life in the southwest US you could lasso them and brand them! Where you place the brand would be your choice, of course. Maybe those living in the UK and other areas might have something equally attractive, such as maybe just kidnapping your intended and locking them up in a castle or your small flat, but I'm fine with having an engagement ring or a neck collar. 😜

Thank god, another guy who hangs out in low places.

    Chapter 38 S2

I'm glad you interrupted the Betty Crocker pie discussion with something about the story. On New Year's Eve when the booze gets flowing, I've witnessed a few fights. Some have been between strangers, but a few have been within a family. I guess that's because I can't afford the elite and classy New Year's Eve parties and hangout with Garth Brooks friends in low places.
