I guess this is the case the world over.
I grew up in a house where my father's attitude was ... "No son of mine better turn out to be a poofter, or he'll be out on his ear".
That statement was made when I was about 15 while we were visiting one of his brothers at Christmas and one of my cousin's, who was about 18 or so, said something about liking it both ways!
So naturally I spent the next few years living in fear that he would "find out" about me ... and especially as I was his only son. lol
I had girlfriends and did my best to "conform" but deep down I knew who I was, and I think he knew it too, even though we never had THAT discussion. He mellowed as he got older and more and more cousin's came out. I remember him asking one cousin if she was happy in her new relationship, "as that is all that matters". When Jodi said yes, she was happy, he said he was happy for her.
People can change. My father is one example of that.
