    Anime?

I love death note and light is my favorite sociopath after hannibal lecter. As for One piece, it is a sweet anime and manga, but the english dubs ruins the original swearing and explicit sexual innuendo. Bleach was okay but it had too many fillers. Naruto is the same. Thorn wilde, read the comics for Angel and Buffy after their series finale, Joss whedon has declared them canon andworked on them.

    Anime?

OMG! I love that Anime. Shinji and the rest of the pilots were so warped and psychologically interesting. It was also sort of weird how they re-interpreted the concepts in religion in the story. Really awesome storylines and characterizations. However, the Anime that really made my Teenage years was Fulmetal Alchemist. The story was rich, the Elric brothers were cool, and the tragedy so sad. I had to get the movie just so I could finish the series properly.

  7. Epic, beautiful, and tear-jerking. The legend of Spartacus has been told countless times with every generation coming up with another story or film that captures the imagination. This retelling by Starz network had more blood, swearing, and sex than any other, but it felt more true to form for the era and times. Slavery is not a dead concept of the ancient world, even in today we still have slaves, whether it is in the human trafficking in Africa, the sex trade in Europe, Asia, and Americas, or in the domestic households of the US, UK, France, and other 1st world nations. It has soften from the era of Rome, but the same captivity and hopelessness remains. The story of Spartacus speaks to those people and it also speaks to everyone as well. I freely admit to sharing libertarian principles, even though I have grown increasingly conservative over the years. The ideals of freedom is summed up with Spartacus' theme: Eat, Drink, Fight, Fuck, and do what makes you happy. Then, you must defend those freedoms with your life. The story of the finale is very straightforward, with homages to Kubrick's Spartacus and a climatic battle sequence that was epic in scale. The human stories behind the battle were handled breathlessly and tragically. We all knew the conclusion was a bloodbath for the rebels, but everyone had a share of tragedy. Crassus is displayed in a far better light than he has been in any modern telling of Spartacus, in this version, he genuinely does seem to like Spartacus and even admire his ideals. However, he must defend the Republic at all costs. He's a reflection of the late Roman Republic's politics, something our own politician today should be warned of as they are following the path of Rome. Crassus was defending the roman freedoms, but those freedoms existed the ugly concept of slavery and inequity. Even he can see that Rome's way can be horrible, but he steadfastly defends it. He's not just 1% guy beating up the poor and slaves, who flock to Spartacus' army, he is defending Roman Republic and its ideals despite its flaws. On the flip side of the coin, Julius Caesar comes off as a cunt and douche bag, who corners Gannicus in a corner rather than fight him one on one like Crassus had done with Spartacus. Historically, Caesar was far better tactician than he was a warrior, reading his De Bello Gallico in school I can see why DeKnight and other producer chose this depiction. In the end, Spartacus nearly beat Crassus, but is killed by common Roman soldiers. Historically, according to Plutarch and Appian at least, he did die in the battle, but his body was not recovered, so they stayed true to the Roman histories rather than Kubrick's film version of his crucifixion. Lugo made his final Cry of batt, "I WILL FUCK YOU MOTHERS" as half his face is on fire and he swings his battle hammer at oncoming Roman troops until two spears kill him. (Come on, it's a bad ass way to die) Naevia dies in a low key moment, where she is stabbed in the neck. Her final look was peaceful like she had finally found her peace after her lifetime of sufferring from her Roman gang rape to the death of her beloved Crixus. Agron and Nasir, our favorite gay couple, survives the war and head up to Germania (Wonder if Germany was open to gay warrior bonds back then). However before that, they were by Spartacus side talking about how his legend would live on even after the fall of Rome. It's true, but his dream of freedom has not been achieved completely either despite the laws and treaties that we have created. However, the dream of freedom is far more important than the failure of its execution or the rebel defeat at Roman hands. Remember that you could lose a war, but an ideal can never be killed once it is conceived. We are all Spartacus! I give it 5 out of 5 :lugh: :lugh:
  8. Same way across this side of the pond . If they work, our systems are cool, if you like tracking your patients on a screen with a display of their histories and condition in several different color coded patterns and a serial number. However, you could have done that with Excel or a simple Access database for a few hundred dollars or equivalent pounds! Sure there are more advanced features, but does a physician running a clinic need it? No. Does a Health Center RN need it? Not usually. The cost problem is that the baseline costs of health care were never targeted, like pharmaceuticals and doctor's educations, or the systemic increase, like the larger population of poor and elderly people rising in tandem. Society cannot operate at an impasse, we have to make a difficult choice on how to deal with the present problems, not wishful projections.
  9. Wow, it's more money than some Wall Street financiers make. Congrats Aaron Rodgers for getting such a good deal The word out now is that there is likely going to be a salary war with what the Green Bay Packers has done with their salary negotiations.
  10. Happy Birthday Finn!
  11. I said it beforre in another blog and countless times when the soapbox was still around: the biggest expense for the average health care provider was the insane mandate of Electronic Health Records implementation. I was reading this on CNN and I think even the more liberal proponents have to see that this reform was far too heavy handed: Doctor Gives Up on US Health Care Look, I warned people years ago, when I was heading up accounting at a health care firm that the new laws are not going to keep down costs indefinitely, you need structural reforms, not just more technology. The latest news from Massachusetts is getting ugly about Health Care Reform (our model is what everyone else is based off). The reason why we saved money and stem cost growth earlier was a combination of factors that were more one off than long term trends. Another major thing, during the conversion of Medicaid pool in Massachusetts, health care organizations and firms were being pushed back up to 90 days on top of the existing 60-75 day turnaround for medical billing. With evaporation of the "free-care pool" of money, hospitals and doctors cannot afford to keep seeing patients. It's just too expensive, but as we cannot deny patient admission or entry, the costs gets placed on the doctors and the firm. It's not like we make profits on health care, even breaking even is hard. Last year, at my old job, costs had soared by 300%, partly due to management and partly due to unpaid bills. My old firm as you may know from my blogs has gone bankrupt a few months ago after I left them due to the inept management team that could not understand the need to manage money with these frightening and tightening times. They held onto the false hope that the state would not give up on them just due to their demographic or population of medical services provided. I said this before in meetings and countless times in other areas, EHS systems are expensive and good for larger hospital networks maybe, but smaller clinics and health centers can't afford it with their limited resources. Despite what the state has said that it would provide aid to these smaller firm, if the state discounts the costs by 30%, you would still need to spend 70-80K at least to implement the system and continuing costs in IT personnel for maintaining it. I didn't just complain, I tried my best to show this doesn't work. I hammered home the nature of costs and escalations to medical providers. As HG Wells said in his epitaph: "Damn you all I told you so"

    Parable of Man

A poem about a man who desires everything only to end up with nothing
  14. If the zombie hates modern money, he should dig up adam smith and gnaw on the bones The theory that markets and people can run efficiently does not work in practical application. Wealth is consolidated without merit or work, irrational behaviors like fear and anger dominates with false information, and human beings in our singular ego are more often shortsighted than God's perfect creature that we profess to be. I would go further, Civilization is an illusion made of altruistic ideals that few if any can ever live up to.

    Anime?

I shared an episode on my blog Cel Seki-ichii Hatsukoi is not Descendants of Darkness, it is relatively new and I am so in love with storylines. Yes, I am a gay romantic fangirl beneath my conservative exterior (Squeels) I really like the shows two seasons.
  16. Happy Birthday, you old beast Here's a little gift:
  17. Don't worry it's not the sexual brand of gay Anime However, it is moving and very adult oriented. I thought the fan Dubbers did good job on this episode and it explores some interesting things that GA writers have gone over, gay guys who have given up on love. The original japanese is much better, but this is fine to give an American audience a taste. IF you really enjoy it, I suggest watching the entire series if possible. I made the recommendation earlier in the Member Q&A thread, but thought seeing is believing. In the prior episode Kisa, who's gay, had spotted his bi boyfriend with a girl and instantly thought he was cheating on him. Kisa might look young, but he's actually already 30. 18. I'll pass on this Superman, I am sorry, but unless they do a radical departure and put him under with lots of pink Kyptonite I am not interested.
  19. Been there and done that, it's no Rome Method, it is possible to rebuild Detroit, even though unnlikely. A massive conversion of the plants towards other things can happen. Look at world war II and the massive reindustrialization of the flagging auto industry. If Americans have the will Detroit can rise again.
  20. In an age of individualism and consumption, making things that last is counterproductive to consumption. Ironically, we can no longer produce the American Dream, when many are still chasing for it.

    Anime?

One more and I promise I am done: Sekai-ichii Hatsukoi It is the most romantic gay love story that I have ever seen about two guys that have loved each other for 10 years, but due to misunderstanding broke up in high school, only to fall in love again. The setting is in a publishing company (hint hint metaphysics alert ). There's something about unrequited love that just makes my heart jump a few steps faster

    Anime?

I've watched the entire series, kyo kara maoh in japanese. Good show and lots of subtle humor. The two guys actually adopt a daughter (If that is not gay subtext, I don't know what is). It's not really Shonen-ai or Yaoi, but the story is pretty good for a fantasy storyline. I advise watching the original Japanese with English subs as it extends beyond season 2.

Just be careful you don't end up with certain Dōjinshi that will forever change your views of certain character relationships I am re-watching Descendants of Darkness for instance, but there has been a lot of good ones over the years.
