  1. I noticed James posting the top 10 evil children book and people responding, but why hasn't anyone pointed to good children books. I just remembered one with a moderately good movie to boot: Charlotte's Web It's my favorite, I admit, because I felt really bad for Wilbur *(Strangely enough, I am not a big pork eater, I prefer steak). I like the idea of the entire story and there was a romantic cross species relationship under-toned throughout the story between Wilbur and Charlotte. It went into the most beautiful ending, where Wilbur helps care for Charlotte's eggs after she dies and it becomes almost like a subtle allegory to gay relationships and adoption issues. Thinking of it in that term brings tear to my each time. I might be over thinking a children story, but the theme of acceptance between a spider and lonely pig is beautiful. There is a real relationship between the two seeking companionship not among the norms of their species, but something different. The last part with Charlotte dying and giving custody of her children to Wilbur is such a powerful and moving realization at how much trust and love these two have for each other. You can apply it as a heterosexual piece as well, but I tend to feel the differences in species may expand that idea. It can be a class-conflict, a ethnic, and dare I say homosexual romance parallel. Kids will enjoy it and will root for Wilbur desire to survive and Teens/Adults will love the existential themes as they grow up and re-read it or see the movie. I don't know about my subtle analysis on the themes in connection with gay issues, but I do recommend it as a children story about acceptance, love, perseverance, and hope.

  3. Next chapter is up for Love and Again: Olympian Deeds Part 1 Alexander the Great must be written Greater!!!! (hehe, I am big fan of Alexander's epic) Three part mini-vignette series, Historical information, realistic speculation, and some very interesting background information based on ancient sources. Enjoy!
  4. Toya Maru
  5. RMS Empress of Ireland (one of the worst Naval collisions of Canadian history) *(Side note, sorry for all the names of ships connected to Maritime tragedy or disasters; it's a side hobby of mine, I like reading up things about naval disasters, so I know a good list of them.)
  6. Carpathia
  7. Has anyone suffered from the common gay writer disease known as AAKD? Or would you consider AAKD a part of your writing technique?
  8. Titanic Haha- some one will say this
  9. East Timor
  10. Bulge (1944-1945)
  11. Dialogue is great introspective detail; everyone has these flashes of thought, memory, and ideas. A writer can write without dialogue, but I wonder can a writer write without thought and just write based on circumstance and action? It's been done in movies, but I have not read a gay writer, who never uses thought or dialogue.
  12. This is a sign of the Apocalypse! Congratulations, Tim!
  13. To be fair, I just changed the error. Nitpick grammar professor, I can guess the college freshman must love your class. However, I am honest; I am an ethical man, not truly a moral man, which is one thing that American law takes into account more than ethics. Won't you agree Mark or can you not differentiate ethics and morals? Also to Tiger, I was a former Branch Vice chair of the Republican Party, so I wouldn't discount my membership that easily.

  15. After arguing with Both Tiger and Graeme on the pedophile thread, then Mark Arbor, dkstories, and Xeran on the Torture thread, I realize something about myself: I am an ethical man, who doesn't believe in absolute laws or the attitudes of society. What's ethics? Main Entry:eth
  16. Happy Birthday Vance!!! Thought it was Microsoft's Vista's birthday for a second, hehe!

    Homophobia

An interesting topic, I agree homophobia is more than just direct action; it can be overt or subversive anti-homosexual actions. However, let me posit another issue that I am thinking about: Can we lump openly gay people as homophobic for certain actions they do? Some gay guys have certain fears of the Feminine model of homosexual men that they are extremely antagonistic against that sub-group within our own community.
  18. Sometimes life is like a slow disaster that we merely witnesses to; hearing what's been happening to you Kev' reminds me of that famous footage of the Hindenburg as it was engulfed in flames to everyone horror and the paralysis of everyone watching it unfold. Perhaps, there is nothing you can do to fix the issues at hand, but I love it that you are willing to help out afterward. The best we can do in life, when facing oncoming disaster before our eyes without the ability to alter it, is merely observe and learn from it. I hope you grow from everything and everyone including yourself will end up better off than where they started.
  19. Here's a bar joke (Why are there so many gay bar jokes): A young man walked up and sat down at the bar. "What can I get you?" the bartender inquired. "I want 6 shots of Jagermeister," responded the young man. "6 shots?!? Are you celebrating something?" "Yeah, my first blowjob," the man answered. "Well, in that case, let me give you a 7th on the house." "No offense, sir. But if 6 shots won"t get rid of the taste, nothing will."
  20. Hey! I agree too, but what I thought was true post columbine more than anything else was an overreaction that kids in my school really did not care about. I was one of the only guys that listened to the second seminar, but after the drudgery of the 2nd; I succumbed to the same malaise that everyone else began to have over school shootings and the continuous bombardment of message laden seminars preaching tolerance and acceptance. By the way, I did train a level 70 Magikarp during those boring day! (Pokemon reference for the teenagers of the early 2000's)
  21. Found any funny jokes recently? I was wondering why we don't have a joke thread on here, I saw the Gay culture thread fill up so quickly with jokes, but no one made a joke thread. Here's a couple that I found slightly amusing: Anyone else wants to share a joke
