I agree... I've tested Linux systems before lets see.... the ubuntu family, Fedora 9 and 10, openSUSE, Mandriva, mandrake (before it became mandriva), puppy linux, DSL, and the like. Looking back on it now I love it as a server because it provides a more stable enviroment then the windows server family. Also for legacy systems I perfer linux to windows because of the fact windows uses more system resources and put higer demands on the hardware then linux does. Linux is pretty much built around the idea to not hog system resources as much as windows. Even with my new love with windows 7, I'm still planning on taking my desktop PC and converting it to a linux machine again, but which distro, i'm not sure I'm gonna look at the reviews and see which would be best. Also. Puppy linux I LOVE as well because of the fact I can customize it and use it as a troubleshooting OS and fix computers using it. Phantom

Right now, I ride a really nice long veichale that is usually 6-8 cars long, powered by both electric and diseal and stop all other traffic in its way. yes, I ride on a train But the car I wanna get is a jeep wrangler with black and silver paint job and the works. Eh. One can dream

Funny. I know where your coming from though, after dealing with the mishaps of vista, I completely turned my back on the whole MS machine. If I ever needed to use a windows system, I would either use win2k or, if absolutely necessary, winxp. I'm also the type of guy whos always willing to give new technology a chance and when I heard about win7 being beta released to the GENERAL PUBLIC I had to google the release and check different websites to make sure I was reading it right. Seeing as how that info was correct, and being suprred to action by the GA thread, I decided to give it a try and use my laptop (Acer 5100, 2gig ram, 150gig HD, 1.6ghz dual core x64 processer) and when I installed it BAM. I feel in love with it. So i'm off... time to trudge through the snow and head to work.

Yea... but there wasn't one for me yet I agree... this is not only the first beta program that I've been this highly impressed with, but the first beta operating system that I've actually been thinking about using as a full-fledged os until august where I hope I can use it even more I used to hate M$ but this os made me rethink my stance with them. They honestly did something right for once. I'm highly impressed with it and well, speaking as a linux user, that's saying something! I think that Win7 is gonna be the first legal operating system that I will buy, provided they keep doing well with it and don't turn it into another vista type system. Eric

I have Windows 7 completely installed on my laptop and I have to say it is INCREDIBLE! I never thought I would say that about a Microsoft system before, but so far it's outperforming vista by leaps and bounds. FINALLY! Microsoft did something right! BUT the only downside is that my touchpad on my laptop... the scroll button doesn't work *sigh* oh well... maybe they'll fix that soon

Well good news is that I did this all on my laptop and everything that's on the laptop was on my desktop so while I (for reasons I don't even understand... I think I was possesed :wacko: ) I did a system reinstall with the manufactures disks soooooooo.... I'm back to running Vista on my laptop.... I think i'm gonna try win7 using vmware... instead of using the laptop as a dummy Edit to add: Yup. I'm going round 2 with win7 and so far so good... I re downloaded the iso and checked it and it wasn't corrupt this time (woohoo!). I'm currently installing win7 on my laptop (cus that's the only computer that I have that can handle it) and I'll let you know in my blog how it all went

Here I am... lying in my bed trying to figure out things that I've been thinking about for the past few days. Be aware... for they may seem a bit weird and or shocking: 1. I need to loose 30lbs. How did I come to this number? Well... since the only thing that's grown on me besides my weight and my gut, I want to return back to my old weight of 165. Don't worry... i'm doing this the healthy way and the safe way. No diet pills or junk like that, just good old fashioned hard work (even though it tastes bland). 2. I need to find a better job, one that'll pay more so I can start saving to get a car and pay my insurance. That's issue 1 for me 3. Taxes. Seeing as how I was screwed over last year with my taxes, I had them take out a little more and since I've been with the company long enough for me to cycle through on my taxes, I'm gonna resubmit my W-4 and redo it so that a normal amount of taxes gets taken out. 4. Matt. I love him soo much that it hurts sometimes. He's issue 0 for me cus well... he's the most important thing to me. He's numero uno ALWAYS. 5. I need to start writing and stop futzing around with my computers. I have some ideas, but I'm gonna keep quiet on them cus knowing me... they ain't gonna come out anytime soon. 6. I'm heading to Deleware this weekend to help a friend move in to her place, while its sad to know that she's gonna be gone, it's gonna be a fun weekend... I can feel it. 7. The informal get together... it sucks that I can't make it and as much as I want to go, I have to say maybe next time. Cides... I need either Matt or Steve to protect me from those of you on GA who wanna tequila the Eric 8. I changed my alias on GA. Why? Cus I felt like it and I think it fits me more. Hmmm... from the sounds of it... it sounds like the beach is rising (or a nasty tidal wave) and the volcano is errupting... I have no choice but to declare this chapter a cliffhanger! Reasons why 1. We don't know whats gonna happen with the general 2. The ocean seems to be moving, but we're not sure why 3. The volcano seems to be having a blast 4. The wedding party seems to be trapped between a volcano and a wet place So... goat... why are you torturing my namesake?!?! I dual boot on my laptop with windows xp and ubuntu 8.10 x64. I wanna try windows 7... but I want to know if there's a way to install it via usb drive. My DVD-RW is fried on the laptop. Yes, as a big shock to those who know me... I want to try a CLOSED SOURCE system. My feeling is... check it out and worse comes to worse... head back to straight shot linux open source EDIT TO ADD: I'm currently downloading it and gonna install it via usb today before I head to work. Worse case scenario... I'll just use puppylinux to fix things on the laptop if things get to a charlie foxtrot (military lingo.... look it up )
