Interesting start to this story. Keith seems engaging and can't wait to see how this develops. Do we ever truly fully overcome our parents dictates? I would like to believe we do; but not truly sure. No matter what we learn, or where we go, I think there is a part of us that will always fall back to what was drilled into us as youngsters. We may learn to ignore it or channel it in a different direction, but it is still always there lurking.
  2. I really like how this chapter played out. Joe is growing up and while his mother isn't onboard with all of his ideas, she at least is willing to try. Sounds like his father isn't. Two weeks with a 17-year-old, Owain has no idea what he is letting himself in for. LOL.
  3. I love museums. I think it is great that Joe has taken some interest in the family history. Neither Owain or his mother seems to care much about it; clearly a by product of how they were raised.

You will learn more than you ever thought about someone while traveling with them.

Colin is discovering what it is like to have someone in his life that actually cares about what he is doing and what he likes.

Joe's picnic turned out to be a delight and such a nice surprise. Owain and Colin are starting to really come together. I do hate that Colin seems to have hidden so much of his life from others. Piggy sounds like an ass. I wonder if we will be seeing or hearing from him again.

Ah to be young and think anything is possible. Joe will learn, but experience is the best teacher, and it isn't always kind.

Sometimes we all need someone like Jase or Auntie Anne in our lives, or our families life.
  9. Everyone seems to be getting closer and learning more about each other. I keep waiting for a blow up. LOL I have to wonder what Joe is up to that has his mother bothered, is it actually something serious, or just something that she thinks is too frivolous.

    London fun

Nice weekend away; but way to much to bring back home. I swear stuff just multiplies in a storage shed. You think you put about ten boxes or stuff and suddenly you go and it is bursting from the seams.

All at your own pace. Colin has to decide how fast or slow he wants to take everything.
  12. At least Owain is thinking about how to handle the money, when it gets there. So many people just never plan and suddenly they are in trouble.
  13. I still get a funny feeling about Francis. I do like Jo though. And looking at the past, family or otherwise is always a rewarding experience. You may not always like what you find, but having an idea of where you come from can be great.
  14. A really nice getting to know you a bit more kind of lunch.

Nice chapter, and for a first meeting with the family, seemed to go rather well.
  16. That was just a lovely chapter, so sweet on several levels.
  17. Family, and what can you do really, kill them? No, you just either accept them as they are or start removing them from your life. Neither is easy, but for your own sanity, it has to be one or the other.

Not exactly how he planned it; but Colin finally made a declaration about his life and what was important to him. His family may never recover.
  19. What a lovely little weekend; and making plans for a trip, how cute. Taking it slow and getting to know one another always works out for the best; but so few really do so. Can't wait to see what happens next.
  20. Well, it isn't just that they have not been around each other for almost twenty years; it is that she still has all the teachings that she was exposed to and at least nominally accepted all those years in the back of her mind. They are going to have to learn how to be in each other's life again. Don't know why she would care about someone paying for the schooling. Extracurricular activities really are a must to get into any good college or university.

Colin's family will run his life as long as he allows them to; they see him as everyone's helper, not an individual with a life of his own.
  22. Owain is smart; he has to let Colin come to him.

We all have to learn how to be happy in our own skin. Any everyone does so at their own pace; sadly, some never learn how to do so.
  24. Really Owain doesn't need to do anything but let Colin decide how to proceed. It is obvious that any involvement at least at the moment will be at Colin's pace not Owain. If Owain tries to rush it, Colin may well shut down. And don't we all know someone like Jimmie, to our occasional annoyance.
  25. Well, truly a superior person, they do like cats. But I am totally lost.
