  1. I thought it had something to do with an irrational fear of bacon.

  3. Encouraging Rednecks to play croquet is courting disaster. Just imagine a bunch of big, drunk good ole boys with mallets and the one called Cletus says, hey Skeeter. Hold my beer and watch this.
  4. Many Native American Tribes have mystical elements in their culture. Seeing an animal in the wild, like a fox, bear or an eagle, all had special meaning.
  5. Nothing is better for the environment than planting trees and cedars smell wonderful. In my part of the country we don’t have spruce, fir or alder that give the forests of the Pacific Northwest their amazing bouquet. I think it’s a good idea to spread cedars around. I plan for one of them to be a permanent outdoor Christmas tree at my house when he grows up. 🌲
  6. My favorite conifer is cedar. I run through a grove of them most days. Lately, it has been terribly dry, and I decided to save about a dozen badly stressed seedlings. I gave most of them away, but still have three from 8 to 32 inches tall in pots with good soil and adequate water. They seem pleased as they have turned a healthy green from a sickly yellow, and they are growing. .

  10. The only time I have ever heard shrimp called prawns was in Seattle back in the seventies. My brother was stationed nearby so I flew out to ride back with him and we explored Seattle. There in a park was a food truck full of Limeies selling good fish & chips. I had never had fish & chips, so I tried them. Yum! He was also selling prawns and chips, but they weren’t moving as well as you would think. It seems us dumb ‘Mericans didn’t know what they were.
  11. Every Thanksgiving week for many years, I've prepared a Lasagna on Monday. The reason for this is quite logical. I love it, and have been making it for years. In a week dominated by cooking a turkey, how did lasagna become involved? To answer that question, we must travel back in time to a golden age: the late eighties. The family gets together, we have a turkey feast and football. So, before traveling to my parents, I made a lasagna. It's one of my best recipes and it always turns out good. My mother and her sisters, who had the kitchen in a state of disaster, were DELIGHTED at the appearance of the unanticipated lasagna. They put it in the oven and were no longer distracted by having to make lunch or dinner on that crucial Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. This became my Thanksgiving tradition. I always make a lasagna on Monday and it's always a hit. The turkey and all the trimmings are for Thursday. However, smelling all of that cooking makes you hungry. Having lasagna on hand makes the whole thing work. So... happy Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy a square of lasagna! Think of it as an appetizer.
