Inspired by - 1. The Goodbye

This story is thanks to a comment passed in the chat room. Someone stated that a story had to include sex to be sexy. I don't think that is necessarily true. Sometimes if you involve the mind it can be all you need. I invite you to read "The Goodbye" and judge for yourself. After all you helped inspire it.

The Goodbye

Even though it had been months since Casey had buried Tom he was still feeling completely lost and alone. Five years together had changed his outlook on life and how to live it. He didn’t want to go back out and try to find someone. Why did he have to die? Why was Tom the one who had to be made an example of during a robbery? That one act had stolen everything from Casey, including the chance to say goodbye to the man who meant so much to him.

Today would have been their sixth anniversary together. When he had to go through all of Tom’s things he had found the ring and the card. Tom was notorious for buying things early and putting them away till the event arrived. He had found things for all of Tom’s family and even though Casey had hoped he wouldn’t find anything for himself eventually he found the ring box in the back of Tom’s closet, the card was taped to it. It wasn’t easy to open the card and then see the ring as well. The ring was an Irish design with an emerald stone. Inside it was written, ‘until we say goodbye.’ He hadn’t removed the ring from his finger since he found it. For him it was a way to keep Tom with him and know that he would never cheat on him or say goodbye.

Casey opened the window and then prepared for bed. It might have been six months but he still wasn’t use to lying alone in bed. He piled up the pillows and wrapped himself around them as he once did Tom.

The clock read midnight as a warm breeze blew into the room. Casey lay on the bed curled protectively around his pillows with a bed sheet wrapped around the lower part of his body. As the warm breeze caressed his body Casey took a deep breath and sighed.

The gentle nibbling of his ear felt so familiar. The tongue that licked his ear sent a charge through his whole body. He arched his back and rolled slightly so his chest was exposed. The gentle pressure of that tongue slid down his chin and soon eager lips were kissing his neck and working their way south to where the slight depression of his shoulder met his neck. The kisses were passionate and Casey couldn’t help but sigh from the tenderness with which they touched him.

Feather light touches were made down his sides bringing goose bumps to the surface. As he moved his arm the light as air touch traced fiery paths from his palm up his arm, then down his chest to circle his nipples. His body was responding as his nipples quickly grew hard and he gasped in surprise and pleasure. His skin seemed to be one instrument his lover knew exactly how to play. Each touch and lick was driving him crazy and he began to crave more of it.

The tongue then worked its way from his neck to his nipples and each flick sent little ripples through him. God, he had missed this. The teeth that seemed to tease the very tip of his nipple had him whimpering for more. He felt the sensations as his lover teased his stomach with the same light touches. His body arched and leaned into every touch, while his mind reveled in all sensations he was getting. He felt like the man left for weeks without food and then set in front of a buffet. He wanted it all, craved it all, and desired each single touch, kiss, bite, and lick he could get.

Feeling himself aroused and ready for more he removed his other hand from under the pillows to reach for his lover. In doing so the ring caught on the bedding and slid off his finger. For a second he didn’t notice as he felt a hot kiss that latest but the briefest of moments on his lips. Then suddenly the breeze was gone.

Opening his eyes, Casey found himself alone in his room. His skin felt cold and little goose bumps coated his skin. His nipples were hard and faint scent of Tom’s cologne filled the air. Looking down and seeing that the ring had slid off his finger Casey realized he had gotten the final goodbye he had always wished for. Tom had set him free and given him permission to go on with his life.

Comments and happy points are appreciated but honestly let me know what you think. Was it sexy or not?

It was lovely. But sexy? Hmmmmm.

Loving, romantic, somewhat erotic, ... if those are words for sexy, well, it was sexy. Personally, I don't see it. But there is just no telling what sexy is. If someone said in the chatroom there had to be sex for sexiness, they were either pretty immature, or just not getting any :P

On a more technical level, this could really only be erotic, because there was no sex. This was a suspension of disbelief requiring the reader to fully inhabit the character within the dream of the character's being. The 'sex' was only a conjured amalgam of memories. Now, that entirely contradicts itself, because while there was no sex, it was sexy. For the character at least. And only in retrospect.

Lots of people can write sexy without the sex. Sex is not sexy. Sex is perfunctory. It is all the stuff that goes on around it that makes it 'sexy'. I just finished Second Shot today, and there is no doubting it was sexy till it got to about Chapter 45, whereupon graphic sex appeared and sexy kinda vanished.

Although, any attempt to redefine the boundaries is always welcome. Trouble is, you need to do that while leaving them the same.

Nope, sorry, this wasn't sexy. It was beautiful and touchingly emotional. But not sexy, sorry.

The ghost story in itself asks for a suspension of belief. I wanted a way for the reader to just sense what was happening and to make their own determination of whether it was sexy or not. That is what you did and I thank you for that.

I love this because it is sooo close to home...so here goes.

Casey buries Tom. After a few months the questions begin. Others may say, move on, get over it. Those who know understand that these questions are asked out of a deeper enquiring nature, throw a question out to the universe and it bounces back with an answer sooner or later. Also, very often, the healing process starts with questions. A powerful way to begin the story. Your use of the word robbery as a reason for his death and then your comparison to it stealing other things, is so real. Nothing can take away that pain. It lives with you forever. You begin again. You discover new energies that never existed. When the time is right, you move on. Sometimes you are distracted, sometimes you are courted, sometimes you are lost in a world where the sexiness is nailbiting stuff.

I think I've just bit all my nails.

I always like to look at the world around me and see what others might ignore. I've had friends and family that have gone through nearly anything one can imagine. Death has simply become another level of being, it isn't an end. That person, if they are loved, lives on with those who remember and cared for them. They are the "ghosts" of our lives. Sometimes they are there to help us and this is how I seen the story once I knew what I wanted to do with it. Thank you for reading and commenting. It means a lot to know someone enjoyed it.

I really like how you explored how hard it is to say good-bye and that sometimes you just need that one specific thing that will tell you it's okay to move on. It was very erotic and while yes, parts were very sexy, I found it to be more tender. Hope that makes sense! Hugs and thanks for sharing!
Thanks Renee. The Inspired By stuff is where I try to do as many different things as I can. The prompts and sometimes the ideas from the chat room just give me places to write things I might not normally. Glad it worked.
