Red Running Shoes - Prologue. Prologue

'Last call for flight Condor 7365 to Brussels. Boarding at gate number D91.'

My friend Ruth once told me a good way to fully understand an issue is to explain it to somebody else. Doing this can reveal even complex interconnections, often together with the solution to said problem.

Who was I to contradict a well-educated and eloquent specialist? Not me.

I didn’t tell a real person though; I typed it up on my laptop. My laptop named Zach.

Yeah I know, I'm pathetic.

'May I have your attention please? Due to a thunderstorm in Chicago, all flights from Midwestern Airlines have been delayed one hour. Please check the Customer Service Desk if you have any questions.'

So, where to begin? Dear Zach I'm an idiot?

I had to face it. I was at the airport yet again, duffel bag (check); laptop (check); phone (check); everything I need to have a life (ha-ha, very funny - no check). All right, let's try this again... everything I need for work (check).

I was running again. Yup, that's what I was doing. Running. Being honest with myself was the first step in solving the mess I had stirred up. Trite but right. Thank you, Ruth.

So I patiently waited for you to finish this story because I prefer that sometimes to a serialized story. For some reason though, I came here...I have been curious about you as a writer for a while now....and read the prologue. I think you hooked me, dammit. So he talks to his laptop...I guess it's not that weird considering that I have conversations with my horse. At least he can take his laptop on a plane. I guess I am getting on the plane too...just can't take my horse....cheers...Gary

Gary. I'm glad you found the story and I got you hooked. :)

Thank you for reading and commenting and I'm pretty sure you still prefer your horse over Zach, even though Jonah can take him on a plane.

I never named my cars, but I used to apologize to them whenever I'd grind the gears – no automatic transmission for me! My passengers always thought I was weird whenever I'd do that (maybe the rest of the time too). ;-)

Ahhh, you started reading RRS! I'm so curious what you'll think!

And I name and talk to things all the time.... What does that say about me?

Ok, 21 chapters...here we go!

After reading prologue:

  • I didn’t tell a real person though; I typed it up on my laptop. My laptop named Zach. - Ha! You're fine, buddy. I have a character who writes everything out to a journal called "Jackoff the Second" as if he were a real person. So, no judgment here.
  • Yup, that's what I was doing. Running. - Why? Where are you going?
