Chapter 17 Monday Night

Heath walked out of the kitchen when he heard Rob’s truck pull into the driveway.

“Hi Dad,” Rob said as he walked into Heath’s house.

“Hi Rob, David. Have you had dinner yet?”

“Yep, David cooked us dinner. Are we interrupting your dinner?”

“No, I am waiting on Steve to get here, and then we can eat. David let me get your truck key, I will be right back.”

Rob and David sat on the couch. “I feel like we are interrupting his plans.” David said looking at Rob.

“We won’t stay that long. He just might want to spend alone time with Steve.”

David kissed Rob. “Ok, I just don’t want to intrude.”

“Everything is fine, Babe.”

Heath walked back into the living room and handed David his key. “Thanks Heath, for getting my truck to the apartment.”

“You’re welcome. Your voice is sounding better.” Heath said sitting down in his recliner.

“Ya, it is. Rob has been taking good care of me.” David turned and smiled at Rob.

Rob caressed David’s cheek. “I love you Babe.” David grinned.

“Heath, explain to me how this lawyer thought he could get away with stealing mine and the other people’s money without anybody finding out about it. He must be stupid or really desperate to think he could get away with taking the money.” David leaned forward putting his hands between his knees.

“David, I am still not understanding everything yet. Eric is still trying to piece everything together. He has put together a team to work on this since there are drugs involved. And Drug Enforcement has put their toes into this too.”

“Will I have to talk to them? I don’t know much about the drug part.” David asked with a worried look on his face. All he could do was keep thinking that Jack got him in this mess and there will be a day he would come face to face with him again.

“I don’t believe you will since you have been cleared, having no connection with the drugs. But you might have to talk to Eric again about the missing money. I will be there with you when you do that. I don’t want you to talk to anybody unless I am there with you. Ok?”

“Ok. Have you heard anything about my Dad yet? You said he was getting bonded out.”

“Eric called me about ten minutes before you got here to let me know your Mother bonded him out tonight. From what he told me, she was having a problem finding a bonding company to help.”

“Why’s that? I thought that was what they were in business for, to get people out of jail.” David looked at Rob and then Heath with a confused look his face.

“They are but you have to have collateral, and your mom does not have any. So, the bond agent had to have your dad sign some papers before they would help him.”

David was looking at Heath with the same confused look. “What do you mean mom has no collateral. The house and cars are in both their names, plus, they got my grandparent’s house when they passed away.”

“David I don’t know what she has and doesn’t have. All I know is she could not prove she had collateral to get your dad out on bond.” Heath shook his head thinking David’s father has himself into some trouble and it is all coming to light now.

“Heath, do you think I should call my mom to make sure she is alright? I am thinking my dad is in over his head and now my mom finding out nothing is in her name, there could be trouble.”

“David, if it was me, I would stay out of it until she came to you for help. If she needs help, I am pretty sure she will find you. Your dad is not himself right now and if you call it could cause more problems for your mom.”

“Ok. I am just trying to figure out what is going on. They bought the house right after they got married, why would my mother’s name not be on it? It just does not make any sense to me.”

“There could be numerous reasons why that is but I think what you need to worry about right now is what you have to deal with yourself and not worry about your parent’s problems.” Heath was trying to get David to think about what he needs to do for himself and not worry about anybody else’s problems.

Rob turned David to face him. “David you have enough things going on, I don’t want you to worry about your parents or Jack. They are old enough to take care of themselves and their problems. I love you and I want to get ourselves back to thinking about what needs to happen for ourselves not anybody else. If it does not have anything to do with us, don’t worry about it. Ok?”

David kissed Rob. “I love you too. Thank you for being here for me.” David hugged Rob.

Rob squeezed David letting go looking at his dad. “Dad, I got a called from Julie today. She found a house for us to look at this weekend.”

“Where is it located?” Heath asked, worrying that maybe Rob was going to move further away from him. Ever since Amber passed away, Heath got closer to Rob and he did not want to lose the relationship he had with his son.

“It’s about two miles from here, and closer to both our jobs.”

“Does it have everything you have on your list?”

“From what Julie said, yes. But we still need to see it first.”

“Ok. Let me know if you two need my help.”

“We will.”

“Heath, what time are you going into work tomorrow? I want to get as much done as I can so I can go back to work on Wednesday.” David asked.

“I took the day off tomorrow so I could help you both get everything done, then we can all get back to our regular schedules. If everything goes right, we should get it all done. I have made a list of everything.” Heath picked up a tablet that was on the side table and handed it to David.

David looked at the paper. ‘Bank, dry cleaners, load things for storage, dinner.’ “That looks right but I need to make an appointment with Eric. I want to talk to him about everything too, and what is going to happen with Jack, my parents, Sally and Harrison. I know you talked to him but I want to maybe ask some questions myself that he might be able to answer and yes I want you and Rob to be there with me.”

“That is fine David. I know I have some questions myself to ask and if I know my son he will have a few to ask too.”

“Ok, let’s get out of Dad’s hair so he can have a free night with Steve and we can get some of our stuff done.” Rob stood up and grabbed David’s hand pulling him up. Rob looked at his dad. “We will talk to you tomorrow. Love you.”

“Thanks Heath for everything. I will see you in the morning.” David said walking to the front door.

“Night boys, love you both.” Heath said giving them both hugs and closing the door.
