Poem Collection - MythOfHappiness - 1. Camping

Remember that trip?

Two days in the woods

Your mom made you come

Said you needed more “strong male influence”

And I suppose she was right

Dad got the big tent

Claiming seniority

The only other option -

A tiny thing, meant for one

He laughed “Deal with it”

Two bodies pressed tight together

That tent never was quite big enough

I lay on my side, because I have too

You on yours, turned away

We lay there, never speaking

Hours pass

The night gets darker

And colder

Our breath fogs

I shiver

“It’s cold.”

“Yes”

“You want to share sleeping bags?”

“Yes”

“Ok, cool”

You shuffle out of yours,

The thin moonlight filtered

Through the tent mesh

And the freezing cold

Turning your skin a silvery pale

I roll over

Turning myself away from you again

You slide in behind me

And I can feel your warm back

Against mine

We lay that way

For a long time

Skin against skin

Feeling each other breathe

Wrapped in our combined warmth

I felt you fall asleep

Your breathing slowing

Becoming even

It felt good

Comfortable

Soon I found myself drifting off as well

Your gentle breaths

Lulling me

Pulling me away

Warming me

I woke before you

At first light

We had somehow rolled over

And twisted ourselves together

So you were the first thing I saw

And the first thing I felt

Was also you

Just lower

Poking into my stomach

Hard and warm

It happens, I understand

But then your hand

Moved from where it was resting

On my hip

Up, to my side

Sliding across skin

Bare and smooth

Up and up

Brushing across my suddenly hard nipple

And over my chest

Now I have my own problem

And if you were awake

You would know that

So it’s a good thing you aren’t

Or else you would know something else too

I shift, trying to break your grasp

You let out a groan

But not a tired sort of groan

You still press against me

And every time I move I only make it worse

My chest goes tight

What if you wake up?

You’ll think I’m trying to rape you

How do I get out of this?

What if my dad finds us?

I wiggle again

And elicit another moan

And some shifting of your own

I jump at the feeling of your hand brushing me

Sliding down again

Lower and lower now

Sliding against your skin

And my own

Till it reaches it’s goal

The waistband of your shorts

I watch it

Frozen for another reason now

As it slips in and pulls out

what waits inside

And starts traveling its length

Slow and even

Stroking

Like you knew what you were doing

Like this was all

A part of your plan

Then I looked

At your face

Your open eyes locked on mine

And you reached over

And pulled my hand to you

And you kissed me

And that was when I knew it was real

Not even in my dreams

Did your kisses ever feel

So good

And once we had spent ourselves

We lay there on my discarded sleeping bag

In each other's arms for hours

Just talking and laughing

And doing all that stuff we always did

Because you’re still my best friend

And I’m still yours

We’re closer now than I ever thought

We would be

As close as two people can be

And our love is stronger now

Than it’s ever been before

Because now we know

What kind of love it really is

And you prove that to me every day

So I would like to ask

One little favor from you

Just a small thing really

Smaller even than that tent

That started it all

Will you marry me?

I meant to review this the day it came out…time got away from me; sorry :)

I love this poem. The storytelling in it is awesome, and it presents a moment of discovery that comes very near the heart of the Gay Experience itself – self-awakening, which is portrayed here as a literal awakening. One I might add is incredible hot.
