The Sock Drawer - 35. A Selection Of German Words I
A Selection Of German Words I
A Gift is death in German
And hell is shining bright.
To back someone would hurt and burn,
A Brief is what you write.
A Wand is what you lean against,
A Pickel used to climb –
You hack it into rock for hold –
But wait, after this rhyme
Another thing I must explain:
A Rock is something that you wear,
Swinging from your hips in cloth
And Hack makes burgers and meatballs for broth.
(Another kind of Pickel is pesky to bear,
It's on your face and it's bright and it's there.)
Cloth may be fabric but Fabrik is not;
That is a building producing a lot.
Bewahre! is a German command to protect
And war means simply "to be" in the past.
And now to be absolutely correct:
When we mean "almost", then we say "fast".
A child may be kind, but when spoken like Wind,
Then it is German and always is Kind.
When Germans use a Boot, they sit in it at sea,
Or on a lake or river, for a pleasure spree.
While riding in our Boot at sea,
We might dangle out an Angel
To catch some Fisch for dinner, see,
And it rhymes with "jungle".
And See, that actually is a lake,
Lake is salty water we make
To keep our soft white cheeses wet.
And when we are nice to each other we're nett.
