Chapter 2 Resignation and Progression
Wretched
Our will to keep fighting
Man’s key to survival
No matter how wretched
There’s chance for revival
What can we do
When will withers and dies
Where do we go
To ease inner cries
Being who I am
Was far from enough
Made abundantly clear
A fool cast off a bluff
I’m a pitiful creature
In a pathetic charade
I’m not what I thought
There will be no parade
I need a new home
Where I can regroup
Regain passion lost
Exorcised from the loop
I lay no blame
I want nothing more
The die has been cast
And I’m settling no score
Please no more drama
I crave only peace
I’ll not find it here
The wheels have been greased
Long-winded am I
Apparently bad
A scourge, a pariah
A sad old passing fad
Tried for said crimes
Deemed guilty by peers
Cruel and unusual
No respect for shared years
I feel the joker
Guess I played one too
Disappointment does reign
But that’s nothing new
Self-pity is ugly
It can swallow you whole
Accept and move on
An eventual goal
Tears do mean naught
Just like my concern
There’s no need to look back
I’ve seen it all burn
Standing Up
Why would anyone
Need protection from me
When you look at my history
Just what do you see
I am no monster
Neither cruel nor a liar
And it’s not very often
I climb on a high wire
I’m never aggressive
But I can speak my mind
If you want a true friend
There’s none better to find
Intrinsic and constant
From me you can expect
And it hurts to core
When friendships are wrecked
I stand in defense
Of this person I am
If you don’t like that I’m me
I can’t muster a damn
Not saying I’m better
But I’m also not worse
And I’ll keep on my path
Till I ride the big hearse
So please hold your arrows
And bite back your scorn
I’ve been a good person
Since the day I was born
Scoff if you will
I’ve thought long and thought hard
I can’t think for others
So I’ll just raise a new guard
Education never ends
And a lesson’s been taught
I’ve taken some notes
There’s nothing left to be sought
I’ve paid the price
And I’m done with it all
Life is about moving
And getting up from a fall
I’m purging for me
And for no other soul
No darts are being fired
Just digging out of my hole
