Lyrical Laments - 6. Chapter 6 Closure and Silly Cat

I love my cat, Falkor, but not that much. Don't worry... he's fine... just a little damage to his pride.

Lyrical Laments

Chapter 6 Closure and Silly Cat

Closure

I see all the words on the page

Sweet and kind and caring

But it’s hard to focus on those things

Because what’s missing is so glaring

Another sign of letting go

The finality of an end

There is so much that I could say

But instead I just push send

I don’t know why I expected more

It was stupid to let loose hope

Decisions made a long time ago

And now I feel a dope

I’ll just be thankful for what I have

My family and my friends

No need to see three stupid words

That would have ripped apart my mends

Silly Cat

Eau de skunk is on my cat

And he wants up in my lap

I just can’t imagine that

I’m not that big a sap

So be gone from me, you silly beast

If you come closer I will flee

Meows don’t tempt me in the least

And I now prefer the lee

Mr. Big Shot you are, the giver of pain

But there are still things to be learned

If you choose to tackle said foe again

Then each time you will be spurned

Don’t even thing about coming inside

You chances are beyond bleak

You have the barn where you can hide

We’ll see how you smell next week

Thanks for reading. Me and my cat are just fine, thank you. :)

 for the first poem and  for the second.  Poor Falkor.  I guess a tomato juice bath is out of the question?

The first leaves me feeling sad, but with a feeling of resolve and strength.  The person will survive, and be stronger in the end

Hahahaha aww poor Falkor.  Veranda dragons and skunks don’t mix.  Are you sure don’t want to give him a snuggle? :P

At what point does a person call it quits?  For me, I lost count after yet another longed-for relationship failed to live, or worse, failed to ignite.  Self-preservation should allow us a finite number then say, 'That's it...'  And yet, even if we take a break, Hope seems to surge right back the next time you meet someone who ticks all your boxes on your shopping list.    For me, it occurred ten years ago on the 1st of September.  That was the day Kevin took his own life with no sign as we'd parted three days before.  I knew there'd never be another like him, and for some reason the urge to try again seemed to be gone.  For all the rough edges, we 'fit'...and I was--and still am--more than content with our shared memories.

Oh, I remember my Duchess tangling with a skunk more than once out in the country--Holy Cow is there any worse scent?  As it turns out, there was: wet dog which still, despite scrubbing, reeked of polecat!  Your pussy must be mighty formidable, G-Man, if it can tangle with such a varmint!  :P

I send you my hugs and encouragement for Closure. You are indeed loved. Silly Cat made me laugh, for you describe the once-mighty feline to a T. Thank you for these.

Thanks, Val. :)  Tomato juice doesn't work, and Falkor would take it very personal anyway... he smells better now :D

No snuggles, but I can finally pat him again. :) ... Resolve and strength? More like resignation for being an idiot.

At what point does the pain stop? I think we both know the answer. It never really goes away, so we deal.

I'm lucky Falkor didn't take a full blast. :(  Thanks, buddy xoxo

I'm probably way off base Gary, but the first poem seemed like a slightly satirical comment about how author's feel as they post the last chapter in their book. (Postpartum Publishing Depression). Other commenters have a different impression, but I will stick to mine.  Silly cats come in many different shapes, sizes, colors and smells.  I'm glad my cat Orange is an apartment cat.  At least when she smells (and she does), I can still stand to pet her and let her jump onto my lap.  :glomp:

Lol. PPD. Yeah, it's a thing. :P  In this case though, it was definitely personal, but just an accepting lament.

Falkor was my buddy who followed me everywhere when I was outside. He was neutered, but he ruled all the other barn cats, and I miss him terribly. He had so much personality, and I could tell he loved me. Thanks for reading about him. This poem helps keep him alive for me.
